I've always made the choice not to participate in the madness on Black Friday. Opening stores on Thanksgiving night really makes me pretty mad. I've got three reasons for not participating: 1. It's a holiday about giving thanks, not about pacifying our appetite for endless consumption with a bunch of junk we don't really need. 2. I don't want to be part of the reason that somebody has to skip Thanksgiving with their family. 3. I don't want my last thought in this world to be, "I can't believe I'm being trampled to death in the Walmart."6 points

Let's see if I have this straight: Cop pulls her over, she tells him she has a loaded weapon in the car (clue #1 for Mr. LEO: she's an honest, law-abiding citizen, so there's nothing to fear here) He isn't comfortable with someone other than him having a loaded firearm, so he instructs her to unload it. (clue #2 for Mr. LEO: You're afraid she might draw on you, so you want her to FILL HER HAND WITH HER LOADED FIREARM. Now she has tactical advantage as your weapon is still in your holster. Good thing for you she is an honest, law-abiding citizen.) Conclusion: Clueless LEO.5 points

If Walmart advertised pre '86 registered M16 lowers for $199.99, Black Friday only, we'd all be there.3 points

Deer down on 11/27 around 4:45PM EST. Snow hunting 2013 - Hunting on the family farm in West Virginia. Saw 9 does that day and no horns. Went ahead and took the biggest doe I had seen all day. She was a big one! Shot with a Remington 700 .308 WIN and Leupold VX2 scope. Not sure what happened on this first picture. My cousin couldn't quite figure out how to take pictures with my Android: She had to be at least a 150lb doe. Two of us struggled just to get her on the back of the 4 wheeler (after being field dressed). Should be good eats!3 points

of course we don't know all the details but based on what I read my opinion is the shooter should be charged at least with manslaughter. this appears to be a shooting that should never have happened but for the foolishness of Mr. Hendricks. this shooting seems to me flawed for the following reasons a) Hendricks was secured inside the house and not under thread of harm or death B) Hendricks had contacted police and should have remained inside the house and let the police do their job c) Hendricks did not identify his target as a threat, I find it hard to believe that any 32 yr old would feel threatened by a 72 yr old if he had just identified the target with some kind of light d) Hendricks violated the stand your ground law in that while we don't have a requirement to retreat the law does not give us the right to advance on some one. I feel Hendricks made the same mistake as Zimmerman in that neither understood that self defense should never involve an element of offense or looking for trouble. self defense with a gun should only be a last resort when no other way is available to prevent harm or death to our self or those we protect. Hendricks actions did not meet this standard in my opinion. disregard the smiley face don't know why its there and could not get rid of it.3 points

Dunno the nuances of GA deadly force laws, but that could likely be a life changing "oops" for the shooter. Guy wasn't inside the abode, unarmed, and old. Even without the Alzheimer's, initially sounds like situation involving a person not presenting any threat that simply going back in the home and calling the cops would have remedied. - OS3 points

ok... so I'm a little behind the current movie releases. :) - a lot of unrealistic junk, but still... ...when the stars and stripes popped out in that last scene I almost balled like a baby. - it caught me off guard. The turkey must've made me emotional.2 points

No new news really, this has little to do with 3D printing; plastic guns have been illegal illegal since 88. I doubt it will have any impact on manufacturing unless someone wants to manufacture plastic guns. That would require a manufactures FFL if you want to sell them regardless of this legislation. Many of us here have the ability to create a CAD model of a gun without downloading anything. It would just be illegal to print it; we can however make it out of metal, they would work much better and be legal.2 points

I would say that anything coming out of a 45 could be commented upon as a slow moving, flying cinderblock. That isn`t one round I want to get hit with. But then come to mention it, I don`t want to get hit with anything. I just don`t want to get hit with a 45 the most.2 points

Something is being done. It’s called States Rights. Like it or not gun control is a States Rights issue. We have more gun freedom now in this country as a whole than we have had in the last 40 years. Those that say we are losing our gun rights read it on the internet and decided it sounded right; nonsense. They can do this in places like NYC and Chicago because the voters will vote for people that make them promises they think they can take to the bank regardless of their stance on gun rights. Last year The 7th Federal district struck down Illinois carry ban. In Sept. the Illinois Supreme Court ruled that banning carry off your property is unconstitutional. However in all these cases including the decisions by the Supreme Court there has been language that allows for some reasonable restrictions by the state. Those restrictions will be handled and tested on a case by case basis by the states. Acknowledging the 2nd amendment gives the federal government total control over gun control can only end badly in the future. Gun control is a crime control issue which makes it a States Rights issue. Four or five states have constitutional carry with more on the way. The big issue here is that the economy is bad and poor voters are united. They do not care about gun rights when someone is promising them a paycheck and health care. Those people are firmly embedded in the Democratic Party. That is why those people are elected. People that do have jobs and healthcare are split all over the place with their priorities and their parties. Democrats are going to keep gun control and terrorism in the headlines because they are failing miserably on the platform they run on; jobs and the economy. Tennessee isn’t a safe haven for gun owners. Don’t kid yourself because you live here; it’s a crime to carry a gun in this state.2 points

As I have said in the past, the LAST thing I want to do is have to shoot someone. If there is a easy way out.....take it. Don't go outside looking for trouble, and if you do, go back inside. It is simply not worth the time, hassle, questions, prison, and regret.2 points

I to can see criminal charges. Going outside to confront the person when you are safe inside and have a phone to call LEO IMO is a big no no.2 points
-
Yea, from the reports he should be charged. You don't go outside looking for a fight, you stay inside and either wait fir the fight to come to you or for the cops to deal with it outside.2 points

To me there is no better time to hunt that any time you have available. I've taken deer in the morning as well as the evening. There are pros and cons to each that we can come up with. But to me, I'll sit at noon if that's the only time I have available! I enjoy the peacefulness of the woods as well as the thrill of the hunt. My son is 3, but when he is old enough I want him to adopt a lot of the things that were instilled in me. One thing I was taught was to take advantage of every opportunity given, and even if mid day to get out there and sit in nature and soak it in.2 points

Not thats funny right there........... :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: Reminds me of a similar discussion that the Chinese made about how confused American people are. This is their description of how stupid were are... The American's are so confused we can tell it by the way they make tea. They boil it to make it hot, throw ice in it to make it cold, add sugar to make it sweet and then put lemon in it to make it sour. If they cannot decide on how to make tea just how smart are they really? ..................... :stunned: :stunned:2 points

The formula of kids and discipline in the home really began to get traction back in late 70's and early 80's and has only gotten worse each year. If anyone wants to put the blame on the parents I will agree but only to a limited point. I put 95% of the problem with our children on the Department of Human Services because they are the main driving force that stopped parents for being parents. When they began putting the Child Abuse Hot Line Numbers on the Television and told folks to report Child Abuse is when the Kids took over. The kids learned at an early age that they could use those phone numbers to control their parents. It worked out very well for the kids and it still does but as you can see they don't advertise them on the Televisions any longer. DHS was wrong in so many ways that is became unbelievable. Kids were calling up the hot line reporting their own parents just to be able to get the power over the parents and it worked well for the kids. When a child reported their parents the DHS would launch an investigation without any discretion what so ever and the news would get on it and drag the parents through the mud and in many cases destroy a family and many ended up in divorces. A truly abused child would never ever call that number for fear that the parents would not be taken care of and the child would be left in their care and the abuse would double of worse. I only had one issue when my oldest son at age 15 decide he would test me. He wanted to go visit a buddy up the road from the house and I told hm he could wait till after supper to go and he stomped into the living room and threatened to call DHS and report me for child abuse. I walked over and handed him the phone. My children were never abused but they had heard from other kids how it works. He dialed the phone while I stood there and watched. He never took his eyes off of me. He hung the phone up before anyone answered and then ask me why I was going to allow him to call. I said, " you have never been abused and you know it." We live right on the edge of Cheatham County and it will take a squad car at least 20 minutes and by the time they got here they would have reason to remove one of us from this house because you would be very abused for the first time in your life." He never tried that again. Found out I didn't bluff. Over time and after DHS put the fear of Hells Wrath on parents so much parents were scare to death to correct their children. That in my mind is what stopped parents from being real parents and just became care takers and slaves to their children.........................jmho2 points

I cut meat for 15 years and helped out some of my hunting buddies in processing their kills. Not a big deal about a 30 min. job once cleaned and quartered. These days finding someone even in the meat business that knows what to do with a whole carcas is hard to do. I am one of those guys that would never let someone else process a beef for me, way to particular about how things are done.1 point

We're already loading Blackout as well as casting for it so when you get it together and want to get into the loading for it or just need ammo you can come on down and learn and load you some up.1 point

The end is bad but looking at it step by step an all though I don't think they were smart moves, every action fits in the range of the reasonable man rule based on what he knew at the time. =No charges.[/quote] Sir I must respectfully disagree and in fact find it somewhat offensive that anyone would find mr Hendricks actions as reasonable based on the following: 1) we all live or visit areas that have high crime after all that's America today. That is no reason to shoot people we come across. 2) just because he never saw a police car doesn't mean they are not available after all the gf had them on the phone 3) ringing the door bell and trying the door are not reasons to shoot anyone in fact no crime that meets the need for self defense even occurred here. Mr Hendricks should have known this as he did not have to walk over broken glass to get out of the house and in fact had to unlock the closed door to go outside. 4) there was no need to go out and flank anyone as mr Hendricks was between the victim and his gf even before he left the bedroom. 5) if mr Hendricks had time to do flanking maneuvers he should have had time to id the victim as a 74 year old confused man. 6) I will agree with you that they were not smart moves in fact in my opinion they were criminal moves that demand that charges be brought against mr Hendricks.1 point

Never leave your place of "safety" to go look for someone outside, let LE deal with it. As when you do, I feel it is no longer "self-defense". A lot of folks probably think otherwise. Dave1 point

I wasn't aware you could "shoot to kill" someone trespassing on your property. The shooter should have stayed inside, battened down the hatches and made sure no entry was made until police arrived. Believe me, there is nothing outside worth dying over, and this could have went very bad for the shooter as well. Police are trained to handle situations like this and could have used other officers, K-9 and/or "less than lethal" methods to locate and apprehend the elderly gentleman. Most likely just another case of "Johnny shot quick" because he pizzed on himself out of fear when he encountered the old man. Just my opinion as I wasn't there. A sad story indeed! DaveS1 point

I didn't take anything personally, I just thought it should be made clear that no one "in" the business uses that term. Medcrew and Pilots are all aware that we carry peoples dads, moms, brothers, sisters, children and usually someones friends uncle, etc..we give these people the same respect as if it were our family member. As for working at VUMC, none of the pilots,( fixed and rotor) actually are employed by Vanderbilt there's a company, or in this case companies, that supply pilots, aircrafts, and equipment as needed per contract.1 point

No, sir, there is no such absolute right to privacy. The issue of privacy is dealt with in the Fourth Amendment, not the Fifth, and the text of the Fourth Amendment is clear that there is no absolute right to privacy. In fact, there is no specific mention of "right to privacy" contained anywhere in the Constitution or in any subsequent case law. What the Fourth Amendment protects the people from is "unreasonable searches and seizures" of our "persons, houses, papers, and effects." The simple fact that they used the word "unreasonable" clearly indicates that the Framers did believe that there were times when government could search or seize people, homes, and property as long as the reason for the intrusion was "reasonable" in nature. The question of what constitutes a reasonable search or seizure has been the subject of over 200 years of debate, conjecture, and court rulings. The standard for privacy is interpreted through the assumed right to privacy in your home and personal affairs where a reasonable person would possess a "reasonable expectation of privacy" unless an agent of the government has a warrant based on probable cause, reasonable suspicion in the case of stop and frisk, or some other warrant exception such as abandoned personal property, plain view, etc. The Fifth Amendment protects other rights including prohibition of double jeopardy, the right to remain silent, and the requirement that due process of law be applied before the government can take your life, liberty, or property. There is no mention of "privacy" or protection from government intrusion into our "private" or personal affairs. I presume that we agree on a few points here, one of which is that the Fourth Amendment has become so watered down that it is becoming almost meaningless. The final clause in the Fifth Amendment that is cited in support of the imminent domain concept has become so corrupted that it is also meaningless. Just a couple of other points about the Constitution that many people - not necessarily anyone who has posted here - fail to recognize. One is that the Constitution originally only applied to the powers of the federal government, not the states. This means that the states could ban guns, withhold due process, search/seize at will, limit speech, etc., depending on the content of the individual state constitutions. The intent of that approach was to limit federal power at keep it at the state level, but it also meant that the rights that we assume are available to all of us were restricted to individuals based on their race/ethnicity, sex/gender, and socio-economic status. Second, the "natural rights" philosophy assumes that all people have these rights, not just American citizens. This is an important point for those who think it's OK to withhold rights from "terrorists", "illegal immigrants", and other groups that we like to exclude from the protections of the American legal system.1 point

A full size .380 would be pretty useless. If you're looking for a 26ish single stack 9mm, look at the Walther PPS. I only own Glock pistols and I shoot them a lot. I was able to pick up the PPS and run a Texas Star at 10 yards with no misses and all the plates in a nice little pile. The PPS will probably be my next purchase.1 point

I haven't used vinegar, but I did use cold blue that you use on firearms. I can't see any downs as to doing it with vinegar, you just don't want to leave the vinegar on to long. If you do you'll have a "deeper" red rust you'll have to remove and in doing that you may bring it back to bare steel. I've seen some people use a potato to put a patina on them, I honestly can't remember how long it took to turn blue. I believe there is a Youtube video on it. The up sides would be that it helps keep rust away/off the blade longer. But it still will rust faster than stainless. The patina help build a layer that rust has to penetrate. But the layer is very thin.1 point
