I am both!  You will be happy to know that in my experience this year, the evening hunts have produced more deer down than the morning hunts.  I love evening hunts mainly because I am not in a rush to arrive before the sun comes up and I usually have a lot more energy.  But I prefer morning hunts because nothing beats watching the woods wake up!

 This morning my father made a post on Thanksgiving about what Thanksgiving used to be like for our family. As My grandfather, his brothers and the rest of their generation started getting old enough that the cold was keeping them at camp rather than in the woods the deer became less of a priority to them. They were the ones of retirement age that had time to secure leases, plant food plots, clean trails and put up stands and when they decided they couldn't do it any more that was the end of camp. I have many great memories of our camp in Georgia partially because of the hunting but largely due to the time spent with my father, grandfather and great uncles (3 of them). My grandfather and 1 of his brothers passed away 2 days apart and another a couple years later so there's only one of that generation left. I'm thankful for hunting we did but even more thankful for the time spent with family.    Anyways here is what my Dad posted this morning,   Growing up, the extended Edwards family celebrated Thanksgiving Day at the hunting camp. It wasn't unusual for there to be 40 or more of us there. The men/boy folk would get up early, load the dogs and head to the hunting woods. The women/girl folk would be at home finishing up the tremendous amount of absolutely delicious Southern style dishes. My favorite was the dressing full of boiled eggs and onions covered in giblet gravey. Uncle Carl's was the pecan pie (for which he would pay later that night). Coming in from the woods and finding everyone there with a table outside (it was in Florida after all) full of enough food to feed a small village was always a delight. We would all remove our hats and Uncle Jack would ask God's blessings on the food. Then the eating would commence. We were all pretty good at it. The family would all visit, kid around, play a prank or two and some would lay on the hoods of their trucks in the sunshine and take a nap (did I mention we were rednecks?). Sometimes we would head back into the woods to get in a couple of hours more of hunting. The womenfolk always complained about that. We didn't kill many deer, we burned up a lot of gas and spent more time hunting dogs than the deer we claimed to be hunting. But hunting was just an excuse for our family to spend time together. Hunting was kind of like white rice, it was what went along with it that actually provided the flavor. So to Uncle Johnny (the only member of that generation left) and to my brothers, cousins and other extended family, I leave you with Uncle Carl's famous words. "I may not live to hunt again next year, so I may just shoot a doe today."   I wish everyone a happy Thanksgiving!

Wife just informed me that she snagged some pictures of me and the boy when we got back to the cabin. (yeah yeah, the wife went along, shaddup..lol). Anyway, if anyone is squeamish or letting someone that is look over your shoulder, be warned. Figured I would post that I'm doing my part passing along tradition. He got really tested today when we butchered them here on the carport when we couldn't hold the knifes anymore. Freaking cold!

I know a guy that wears one of these on his belt. At first people usually think he's LE until he shows them the "carry permit" badge. Then they all just think he's an idiot.

To me there is no better time to hunt that any time you have available. I've taken deer in the morning as well as the evening. There are pros and cons to each that we can come up with. But to me, I'll sit at noon if that's the only time I have available! I enjoy the peacefulness of the woods as well as the thrill of the hunt. My son is 3, but when he is old enough I want him to adopt a lot of the things that were instilled in me. One thing I was taught was to take advantage of every opportunity given, and even if mid day to get out there and sit in nature and soak it in.

As CA and NY go so does the rest of the country. IF we dont get out the vote STRONG!!!

Somebody forgot the first rule of carrying in a non permissive environment. Concealed means concealed. Without evidence to the contrary, I am going to assume the student was just carrying for self defense without any other ill intent. One gun and two spare mags is less than my daily load out of 2 guns and three spare mags (2 for the primary, 1 for the secondary). If he had a bag full of 10 or 20 mags, that might be a little suspicious but not 2.

The recent behavior of some local gun stores has dampened my enthusiasm for supporting local gun stores.

The truck said 14 degrees when I pulled into the lease this morning...I made it till 9 somehow. Shot a coyote at 40 yards at 7:15 and watched a tiny racked 4 pt about 20 min later. He sniffed the coyote and then walked right over it.

After reading the article, all I can say is there are a few more that need to be shot. :)

Much to be thankfull here and I am reminded of this every day. I'd like to share a story with you all that involved me this afternoon. I work in east Nashville. Not the "cool part" of town with all the hipsters either. Today one of our local homeless came into my shop. Sort of. He made it to the door and could go no further. Seeing him in our doorway, hunched over and clutching himself, I knew something was wrong. As I approached, asking repeatedly if he was ok or if he needed help, he said "I think I'm having a heart attack!" Now I'd like mention I know this man. He's a local homeless who I have removed repeatedly from our store. Honestly he is an aggressive pan handler and kind of an all around ass. Had he said about anything else, its likely I would have told him to tell his story walking. My father has lived and suffered with numerous cardial issues for over a decade. There were a few times over the past years when I was living in CA that I wondered if I would ever see him again. As I got closer to the homeless man, he collapsed quite literally in my arms. Guiding him gently to the floor, I instructed one of my employees to call 911. After making sure he was breathing I also dialed our local low cost/no cost clinic as they are across the street. One of their doctors and two nurses were at my door giving care before we were even through to a 911 operator. The nurse was familiar with the man and started talking to him by name as the doctor did whatever it is doctor do, and the man responded by answering all questions the same way "I want to die, god let me die". The nurse told him that he wasn't going to die today, god had other plans for him. Upon hearing that I piped in "that's right, if god wanted you dead today he would have left you out in the fucking alley, but he brought you here to me instead". I'd like to point out that I am not a very religious or spiritual man, I would say that I'm a non-believer except I accept my own ignorance to the matter and choose instead to just wait and see. I don't know why I said what I said, I couldn't help it, it just came out. The ambulance arrived and got him loaded up. Before they left they asked me if I could throw away the empty bottle of Popov, or whatever cheap vodka it was. Oddly enough it was a mirror twin to the empty bottle I found in the parking lot this morning. I've spent the rest of the day wondering if he really did have a heart attack, or just drunk and cold. I'm guessing the former, this guy has ZERO problem getting arrested to get fed and warm. I am thankfull this year. For far too many things to even think about listing. I would like to thank though the Red Cross tonight. My first aid training completely "took over" once I heard the words "heart attack" and saw him start to go down. I did not have to administer first aid, however I wonder if I would have handled things as well without walking through the pre and post care steps in class. Thank you Red Cross. I took my new Marlin 444 out for a little stroll today. It got its first blood. This little doe crossed the field at 133 yards, and I introduced her to the hot rod 444.

Some of you may have read about me exchanging a new M&P Shield today for a G19, which was intended as a Christmas present. Well...the G19 wasn't the only thing I picked up. I got something else for me today. Not a good pic, but you can see what it is, a Tavor SAR B-16. It is pretty sweet. :)

Received an email from J&G Sales with their Black Friday sales, which includes Mosin M44 carbines for $149.95! I haven't seen them that cheap in a long time.

  I have to disagree, I've heard that a long time ago, long before HCP laws and castle doctrins were passed. Many states have become more gun friendly in the last 20 years. They would have to pass laws like that on a federal level, then they will really learn the definition of non-compliance. They can do that in places like NY because they have pretty much had a gun registry for a long time and private sales are illegal, they know who has a gun and what gun they have, at least the law abiding citizens who followed their authoritarian laws. In states like Tennessee, they have no clue who has what. They may have an idea who may own a gun by HCP records, but they could never know what and how many they own. But I agree with getting out to vote, I do it every election.

I hope that this will fix her problem. Seems these are pretty commonplace these days so I expect  to hear a great report on how she is doing afterwards. I had a friend in OK have one put in a couple of weeks ago and his went very well. I will certainly keep you both in my prayers!

Wow.  Glad they finally figured out the problem.  Prayers said that the surgery tomorrow goes well.  I'm sure after a year you're both ready for her to feel better.  Keep us posted.

Truck said 14 degrees for us this morning too. Went with my FIL and a friend out to the farm, I saw 4 deer and put two of them on the ground (does). Had a group of three walk up behind me at 7:00 and dropped one, was waiting and fixing to climb out of my stand to gut her when another doe came up in front of my at 7:50. Broadside shot at 60 yards, I couldn't pass on it. My FIL put a doe on the ground too so we had three to take care of today. It was a cold day but the deer were moving!

 I came along towards the end of all the good stuff but took every chance I had to be in the middle of it. I hope to be in a position to provide those same memories for my children and grandchildren. Something about leaving home for a week or more and hunting every morning and every evening and sitting in camp the rest of the time. Where camp was located during my time was in south Georgia near Forsyth. My Dad's side of the family all read Louis L'amour so I think between us all we probably own everything he's written 4 times over but anytime there weren't stories being told his books were being read or naps were being taken. I'm afraid that my grandfathers generation of the family have taken something with them that may be hard to reestablish though. Hunting then was a way of life which was necessary to eat, my generation of the Edwards have gone on to be Drs. and lawyers and most have never NEEDED to hunt and never spent the time to learn what that means as I did. I hope to pass everything along and maybe get it all back in play!

  Last year my wife was breast diagnosed with cancer and it really didn't seem very fair to me.  Here she is early forties, eats well, exercises all the time and is a very devote Christian woman.  I hosted a pity party for myself almost every day.  On the other hand my wife is a very positive uplifting spirit but I was having trouble getting my spirits up.  Then on the very first day of Chemo I quickly realized, we don't have it so bad. Our chemo treatments were 6 hours and we watched people suffer through really bad bad chemo treatments.  That was when I knew, "It really could be worse".  I've always hated when someone says, It could be worse be cause that totally lacks any empathy.  My wife went through 3 surgeries, 6 chemo treatments and 33 radiation treatments and never complained once.   I am very thankful for my wife, the strength the Lord gave us both, for all people in my life and last but not least to see my beautiful wife get better and better every day.    Happy Thanksgiving to everyone here!

I think a more normal reaction as a parent would be to hide from the media due to being ashamed and embarrassed by the actions of their child. Just my 2 cents.   Out on bail from the previous robbery and is already out robbing again, does not surprise me.

The robber should have been killed to save the tax payers money. The good Samaritan should be given a metal for his bravery and for being a hero. We need more people like him. For the robbers family, screw them.

Here it is a Marlin 444ss. This thing is AWESOME, I don't think I've stopped grinning since I shot it yesterday. Took it to the woods today and if I had been a little quicker I might have been able to have drawn first blood with it. Had a doe sneak by. It came with a scope but they took it off to be easier to ship and I haven't put it back on yet, gona let it go bare back for a while, might go with a peep. Anyway here is a pics for you.

I fell ya, be it military, traveling or volunteering sometimes all it takes is to be out of our comfort zone and see what some people have to deal with to snap out of feeling in the dumps. One of my sons classmate just had their family's house burn down about two weeks ago and lost everything. If the families healthy then everything else can be worked out. Hope the tough times passes soon.

I wish the people talking about the Max Michel video could have seen Norma's reloads at the night match. They were unworldly fast with a flashlight in her hand. She deserves the recognition for both being an amazing shooter and person.

i would advise the wife not to say the weapon is loaded. i just give an officer my dl and permit without comment. all they have ever asked was were was the weapon located. to my way of thinking any time a weapon comes out of the holster the chances for a discharge , negligent or otherwise , goes up especially trying to unload it in a car. this situation seems to have decreased officer and civilian safety as opposed to increasing it. i might contact the chief of the pd and ask about the safety of this procedure and perhaps he can make it make sense.  don't be argumentative but come across as a concerned citizen seeking clarification on the matter. 

Those people amaze me. "If the shtf I'm bugging out to the mountains"... Oh yeah? Newsflash. There are already people living in those mountains. The family land I grew up on and that my parents and sisters still live on has been in the family since the civil war. And if they think those rough as a cob hillbillies like myself and others won't use force to keep you off our land and away from our resources, then they are sadly mistaken. This isn't directed at anyone in particular, but please, if you plan to bug out, make sure you have an exact location in mind, preferably that you own and mantain, but at least have the owners permission and visit it often, or you might be better of bugging in. I'm hunkering down on the land here, and hope to travel to my folks place from time to time after it calms down. But even if your in a suburb, hunkering down under a roof in a neighborhood you know kay be much better than sleeping in a state park or on someone elses land you dont know with the 1k's of others who bugged out, wondering if you might get shot by a land owner or feelow survivor.
