Actor purse fight. Marky Mark is still a douche nozzle who thinks we little people shouldn't own guns. From what I have read what Tom said was taken outta context (not that it matters) but when people start "respecting" actors for political stances they have another link in the dumbing down of America.6 points

I think a change in language might be useful here. Regardless of how most non-progressives feel about him, there's still a lot of distance between Obama as the elected President of the United States and "dictator". He's not torturing, imprisoning or killing political opponents. He's not outlawing the press. People are still free to gather. People are still able to protest. This current debate surrounding healthcare is a wonderful example of that. He just lost a vote in the House with 39 Democrats joining the Republicans in a 261-157 vote to reject his "vision" from yesterday and act on their own. One can argue a lot about the abuses of Executive power, and frankly that doesn't rest solely in the lap of this administration. But, we're a long way from a dictatorship. I only make this point because I think language is important - and lacking in the national discourse right now.4 points

I realize this is a rather long read but I have read it in the past and a friend sent it to me again this morning and requested I forward it. I thought I would forward it here as I think it is a great reminder of truth. Cemetery Watchmen . My friend Kevin and I are volunteers at a National cemetery in Oklahoma and put in a few days a month in a 'slightly larger' uniform. Today had been a long, long day and I just wanted to get the day over with and go down to Smokey's and have a cold one. Sneaking a look at my watch, I saw the time, 16:55 . Five minutes to go before the cemetery gates are closed for the day. Full dress was hot in the August sun Oklahoma summertime was as bad as ever--the heat and humidity at the same level--both too high. I saw the car pull into the drive, '69 or '70 model Cadillac Deville, looked factory-new. It pulled into the parking lot at a snail's pace.. An old woman got out so slow I thought she was paralyzed; she had a cane and a sheaf of flowers--about four or five bunches as best I could tell. I couldn't help myself. The thought came unwanted, and left a slightly bitter taste: 'She's going to spend an hour, and for this old soldier, my hip hurts like hell and I'm ready to get out of here right now!' But for this day, my duty was to assist anyone coming in. Kevin would lock the 'In' gate and if I could hurry the old biddy along, we might make it to Smokey's in time. I broke post attention. My hip made gritty noises when I took the first step and the pain went up a notch. I must have made a real military sight: middle-aged man with a small pot gut and half a limp, in marine full-dress uniform, which had lost its razor crease about thirty minutes after I beganthe watch at the cemetery. I stopped in front of her, halfway up the walk. She looked up at me with an old woman's squint. 'Ma'am, may I assist you in any way?' She took long enough to answer. 'Yes, son. Can you carry these flowers? I seem to be moving a tad slow these days.' 'My pleasure, ma'am.' (Well, it wasn't too much of a lie.) She looked again. 'Marine, where were you stationed?' ' Vietnam , ma'am.. Ground-pounder. '69 to '71.' She looked at me closer. 'Wounded in action, I see. Well done, Marine. I'll be as quick as I can.' I lied a little bigger: 'No hurry, ma'am.' She smiled and winked at me. 'Son, I'm 85-years-old and I can tell a lie from a long way off.. Let's get this done. Might be the last time I can do this. My name's Joanne Wieserman, and I've a few Marines I'd like to see one more time..' 'Yes, ma 'am. At your service.' She headed for the World War I section, stopping at a stone. She picked one of the flower bunches out of my arm and laid it on top of the stone. She murmured something I couldn't quite make out.. The name on the marble was Donald S. Davidson, USMC: France 1918. She turned away and made a straight line for the World War II section, stopping at one stone I saw a tear slowly tracking its way down her cheek. She put a bunch on a stone; the name was Stephen X.Davidson, USMC, 1943. She went up the row a ways and laid another bunch on a stone,Stanley J. Wieserman, USMC, 1944.. She paused for a second and more tears flowed. 'Two more, son, and we'll be done' I almost didn't say anything, but, 'Yes, ma'am. Take your time.' She looked confused.. 'Where's the Vietnam section, son? I seem to have lost my way.' I pointed with my chin. 'That way, ma'am.' 'Oh!' she chuckled quietly. 'Son, me and old age ain't too friendly.' She headed down the walk I'd pointed at. She stopped at a couple of stones before she found the ones she wanted. She placed a bunch onLarry Wieserman, USMC, 1968, and the laston Darrel Wieserman, USMC, 1970. She stood there and murmured a few words I still couldn't make out and more tears flowed. 'OK, son, I'm finished. Get me back to my car and you can go home.' Yes, ma'am. If I may ask, were those your kinfolk?' She paused. 'Yes, Donald Davidson was my father, Stephenwas my uncle, Stanleywas my husband,Larryand Darrelwere our sons. All killed in action, all Marines.' She stopped! Whether she had finished, or couldn't finish, I don't know. She made her way to her car, slowly and painfully. I waited for a polite distance to come between us and then double-timed it over to Kevin, waiting by the car. 'Get to the 'Out' gate quick.. I have something I've got to do.' Kevin started to say something, but saw the look I gave him. He broke the rules to get us down the service road fast. We beat her. She hadn't made it around the rotunda yet. 'Kevin, stand at attention next to the gatepost. Follow my lead.' I humped it across the drive to the other post. When the Cadillac came puttering around from the hedges and began the short straight traverse to the gate, I called in my best gunny's voice: 'TehenHut! Present Haaaarms!' I have to hand it to Kevin; he never blinked an eye--full dress attention and a salute that would make his DI proud. She drove through that gate with two old worn-out soldiers giving her a send-off she deserved, for service rendered to her country, and for knowing duty, honor and sacrifice far beyond the realm of most. I am not sure, but I think I saw a salute returned from that Cadillac. Instead of 'The End,' just think of 'Taps.' As a final thought on my part, let me share a favorite prayer: 'Lord, keep our servicemen and women safe, whether they serve at home or overseas. Hold them in your loving hands and protect them as they protect us.' Let's all keep those currently serving and those who have gone before in our thoughts. They are the reason for the many freedoms we enjoy. 'In God We Trust.' Sorry about your monitor; it made mine blurry too! If we ever forget that we're one nation under God, then we will be a nation gone under!3 points

I respectfully disagree. The Birthers and "the go back to Kenya" crowd have almost made the GOP and the TEA Party a laughing stock. As someone stated earlier, the minute that something stupid is said you are going to lose your potential audience. You need to be putting facts and solutions out there. Calling Obama a commie doesn't go very far in gaining support against bad policy.3 points
-
Seriously? Obama isn’t going to be impeached; move on. Obama may be a lot of things; but stupid isn’t one of them. He promised jobs and a better economy. It hasn’t happened. He is the one keeping people whining about guns and health care front and center. Keeps the focus off the tough issues. I see people on here crying about the “sheeple†and “the uninformedâ€; look in the mirror. This guy takes you by the hand and leads you right down the path he wants you to go.3 points

The IRS hasn't tortured, imprisoned or killed any of Obama's opponents yet. Yes, they did slow down applications. They might (and that's a long shot might) have cost Romney the election. That needs to be investigated and adjudicated if necessary. But let's be clear about our language. Not all of the press goes along willingly. The Wall Street Journal has a million more daily subscribers than it's nearest two competitors. I read it every morning. They aren't cutting the man an inch of slack. I haven't seen y'all's beloved Fox News skipping alongside Obama. Yes, most of the media is centered in major population centers (New York, Los Angeles, Atlanta) and their editorial bent reflects their politics. That's nothing new. But both sides are represented. The administration may have some allies in the management of the big media conglomerates, but we're a long way from state controlled media. I was in Washington D.C. a few weeks ago - albeit grudgingly. There were people protesting Obamacare in front of the White House. That'll get you killed in a lot of places. I've been to a bunch of them. America isn't one of them. We've got big problems. Let's not let them take the easy path because we're focused on the wrong things. By focusing on Obama as a kind of boogeyman, you lose focus on the arguments that'll actually get you somewhere. As soon as the word "dictator" comes out of your mouth, people are immediately dismissive of the rest of the conversation. Why don't we focus on what he's not instead? He's a president that has failed to deliver on a single promise he's made yet - both domestically and abroad. He talks a big game, but when it comes to delivering, he's a complete failure. All I'm saying is that our arguments should be supported by our language.3 points

Luke, I think the issue with DaveS was posting incorrect information as fact about TN law, and then when shown the exactly law he continued to argue that state law prohibited something. I had no idea on his background, and no clue on what the rules are for different types of badges on TGO. IMHO somebody with a law enforcement badge on the forum needs to be careful posting incorrect information on TN firearm laws since many users will tend to take the badge into account when reading their opinions on the law. I don't think anybody wishes to keep DaveS from giving his opinion... only giving bad facts about TN law... Lets recap... DaveS stated: 1. TN doesn't honor permits from Maine 2. TN law requires that you be 21 to carry a pistol on an out of state permit 3. TN doesn't honor all state permits only states that honor TN permits None of these statements are correct... TN firearm laws are a confusing mess on their own... the last thing we need is to have somebody spreading even more misinformation. You're entitled to your own opinions, but you can't be entitled to your own 'facts' :)3 points

Wow! Last year I had a HUGE owl flying through the trees for about an hour. Kind of forgot about him and turned around to find him sitting on a branch about 10 feet in front of me at eye level! He just stared at me for about 20 minutes. At first I thought "How cool is this!" Then I started thinking, "Is he sizing me up!?!?" HA HA Guess he may have been. If I hadn't been chewing on a chicken leg, he might have thought me a formidable opponent  (The last sentence was made up obviously lol)2 points

Sometimes you just have to do the right thing. Often it benefits you in ways that are hard to see coming when you do it. The Republicans have tried to "box clever" for too long and it has failed them (and the country) over and over again. Largely because they (not all of them but enough) temper their decisions with greed and thoughts of the next election and partly because they're just not smart enough to play their game. Ideally, the test for initiating impeachment would be "Do we think he's done impeachable things?". Unfortunately, that doesn't fly. Personally, I am still pretty outraged over Benghazi and I think it's a betrayal that that hasn't been split wide open. That Holder is still in place after Fast and Furious is just incredulous to me and implies some really serious problems with what is going on. Obamacare is almost a sideshow in comparison in my opinion.2 points

For the impeachment crowd, I'd argue what does it matter? What's the fight going to get you? Let's fight the battles where we can make a difference. The GOP needs to have a unified message right now that this whole mess is but a portent of things to come if you let the government take over healthcare. Mind you, then they have to offer a compelling plan of their own, and that's when the wheels start to come off.2 points

I've been thinking about this all day, and I thought I'd give some insight into an administrative action I took last night. A look behind the curtain if you will. We can have conversations about race on TGO. We regularly have good discussions on a variety of issues here, and there aren't really any topics that are verboten. That said, when we're talking about difficult or potentially controversial issues, our position is pretty much the same as we discussed in the post regarding anti-law enforcement threads - either bring something to the discussion or don't participate. We have almost 20,000 users on TGO at this point. People from every area of the state and every background are represented. Not everyone looks like you. Not everyone has the same views as you. I wouldn't ask anyone to change their views just to please someone else. Far to the contrary, we encourage good debate on conversations that are worth having. But, we do ask that everyone show some respect for the other voices at the table. When it comes to racial issues, TGO will not tolerate hateful language. Period. It colors all of us as a community in a negative light.2 points

Whalberg is also known to be pretty strongly anti-gun, at least so says Guns-n-Ammo. http://www.gunsandammo.com/2012/02/24/8-surprising-anti-gun-celebrities/ Don't get me wrong. I've done my fair share of reading on the aforementioned subjects to be well prepared. Thanks for mentioning it though. The bottom line is that I'm not (nor should anyone) going to allow myself or the ones I care about to become paralyzed or handcuffed about issues that I cannot ultimately control. I have to admit that it makes for great conversation. However, I know too many people who are obsessed about issues in the political world and their health is paying the price. Strange thing is that they have trouble sleeping at night worrying incessantly. This world is too big and life is too short to not enjoy.1 point

Q: How can I reduce the amount of mail I receive from the NRA? A: Simply email us at membership@nrahq.org or dial 800-NRA-3888 and request to be placed on the "Do Not Promote" list. This will significantly reduce the amount of mail you receive without affecting important mailings, magazine service, or your membership renewal.1 point

That's Jamaican food, if you want Cuban food, Back to Cuba off Harding Place going towards I65 has killer cuba food (my cuba friend approves). There's a hole in the wall (resides in a gas station on the left) on Old Hickory Blvd heading towards Nolensville road that sells Puerto Rican Food. Now, My favorite (i'm a little biased being Dominican) and if you don't mind a drive to clarksville, there's a place off tiny town road that sells Dominican Food (That's Dominican Republic, not Dominica). Pollo Tropical is good, but it's a chain.1 point

Insurance underwriters will have to get in line. State healthcare exchange officials are already stating they will not comply, nor allow insurance companies to comply, with any such delay. Partial delays, partial compliance, universal uncertainty as to what he'll decide to change next, valid questions as to the legality of the executive branch modifying legislation without bothering to ask Congress... The far left will try to morph Obamacare into single payer. That just isn't in the realm of the possible. So we've got Democrats running as fast as they can from the bomb they set. Obama trying to provide cover by doing the same thing he was dead set against just a month ago. Insurance underwriters and state exchanges facing off the feds. The IRS now having no idea who is compliant, who isn't, who gets fined and who walks. Hospitals now have NO CLUE what will be considered a 'compliant' plan, and suddenly all that new software is 'questionable'. At least 7 million who now don't have insurance, have no idea if they're going to get their old insurance, Obamacare, or something in between... Republicans need to take a long step back, que up the extended cut of 'Yakkety Sax', and enjoy the show. The longer the democrats try to polish this turd, the greater the devastation at the polls. It will be painful, but eventually a majority will demand repeal and replace.1 point

I do frequently, but not all the time. I wouldn't count on an officer knowing the law about anything. When I was pulled over last year, an Alcoa PD cop lectured me about the "law" saying I had to tell him if I was carrying. I just nodded and smiled (my normal response to idiots) but he kept on and on. I happened to not have my AR in the truck at the time. No telling what he would have said about that given how well he knows the law.1 point

If you need to tote your AR pistol, this in this is pretty much gray man. Probably wouldn't want to tote it 60 miles though. Full sized handgun with extra ammo likely to suffice to "get home". If folks are shooting at folks on sight, I'd opine that stealth would increase your odds better than firepower. - OS1 point
