Well when you say "they" I assume you mean the government. I grew up in a small village on the southern island and I remember seeing choppers and Soldiers show up when we had a lahar, which is basically a major mountainside landslide. That was a major factor of me joining the Army when I came me of age after being adopted and brought to the US. The Filipinos have been an ally to the US and the bond formed from WWII is still strong within the civilians. I hope that the money and donations make it to the people in need instead of the crooked politicians and government officials. A nuclear powered A/C carrier and support vessels is already on the way to help - I know actions like these is what shows the reason a lot of people wear the uniform with pride.7 points

That's what really caught my attention. I wondered what McDonalds had to do with long guns. lol I quit going to McDonalds years ago, their "food" sucks and is of the worst quality. I simply refuse to put it in my body.4 points

They better hope that when I get hit, I go down and stay down. Otherwise somebody is gonna have a really, really bad day. And all I can say is good luck. Ive been punched in the head and face more than I care to think about, and so far Ive never actually been knocked out. Maybe they will try me and it'll be the same pricks who broke in my truck a few weeks back. My sledge hammer could use a workout Tapatalk ate my spelling.4 points

i ask for nothing, the tradition of extorting gifts from family should end when one becomes self sufficient. If someone wants to give a heartfelt gift that is fine. But I'd never ask, and always encourage nothing be given to me. Christmas is about Santa and little kids.3 points

If in your daily travels you get in a shoot-out with someone wearing body armor; caliber is probably not going to play a part in how things end.3 points

Only a few things I really want this year.... Eotech for the AR- The dog is buying that for me. ESEE 5- Dog's buying that too, I'm pretty sure he already ordered it. Really good bottle of Bourbon for Christmas Eve- Dog again. I'm sure he'll pick up at least a couple 5ths, that's how he rolls.3 points

I think you are on your own there. My G21 with its 13 rds of .45 cal goodness seems just right to me.3 points

They would never attack someone like me or you. They're looking for the oblivious teacher, the homeless guy, or the girl walking alone. That's why they call the game "Knockout" and not "Hit a hillbilly then get your ass stomped." These are the worst examples of humans, they will reap what they sow.3 points

I don't drink diet soda, light beer or anything less filling because it doesn't "taste great"! I man-up and go for the gusto! Let me get the ball rolling and say, "I wish they made a .46" Let the caliber wars begin all over again! Anyone want a cold non diet beer with their popcorn or extra butter / salt?2 points

Pretty lame but calling a boycott over what looks like a screw up by a single individual in a chain that hires many tens of thousands of bottom of the barrel type employees is possibly a drastic over-reaction to this? I mean, they made the offer and probably gave away thousands of bucks worth of burgers to vets across the country. ONE of em did not get his burger due to a screw up. I can't get mad at the whole chain over THAT. They did not have to give away anything at all...2 points

I'd be very hesitant about walking around with a long gun in the opening hours of a disaster, even a large scale one. At the beginning there will probably still be some semblance of law and order, and I'd rather not draw that kind of attention to myself. For me the most likely situation would be having to get from my office in an urban area to home in a rural one across 35 miles and a couple rivers or creeks. Rather than the weight and attention of a long gun, better to have a concealable sidearm, water, CASH (sorry no one's going to be bartering copper rounds and fish hooks at this point), good shoes, and protection from the elements. Another issue that I think about, probably best for a new thread, is communication. Are your kids in school? Spouse working on the other side of town? What if the phones are down? How do you link up? This is something to which I've given some thought but haven't really come up with a plan.2 points

I have always boiled the head. If you do, make sure you wrap the bottoms of the antlers with aluminum foil so they do not get discolored. My wife would not let me do this in the house or use any of her pans. I went to Goodwill and found a pot for $5. I used my turkey fryer base and the goodwill pot and did it on the patio. Worked great.2 points

Yeah, they really learned their lesson by reducing an occupational force and then getting hit with what amounts to a 3 hour tornado with 50 foot high swells that sucked entire islands back into the ocean. Even though they're a 3rd world country, they still offered assistance after Katrina hit us. That says a lot about the culture, and I think they deserve the same courtesy from us.2 points

Glock 22 and keltec sub2000 in the bag. G23 or 27 as ccw. 6 or more extra high capacity magazines. This will likely be my first setup. Eventually, I will have an AR Pistol in 300blk for this purpose with about 6 loaded magazines and a few ammo pouches to put on a belt in a bad situation that I need to hurry home through. So here is the update. I had some email communication with a fellow in Spike's customer service department. After a couple of delays, he sent me a return label and RMA number. I sent the complete upper with BCG, copies of email correspondence including that associated with the previous RMA, photos of the malfunction posted here, and explanation of what I had tried to fix the problem including types of mags, ammo, etc. Two days later, I received an email from the customer service rep stating that he hand-carried the upper to their armorer who, upon reading the correspondence, built a complete new upper for me and installed my LWRC quad-rail on the new upper. I received the shipment today and it included 7 fired casings that do not have the scratches/gouges on them like the ones I got in the old upper receiver. I asked if they knew what the problem was, they said they didn't bother to do any sort of diagnostics. I am very confident that the feed ramps on the other barrel extension were not machined properly because these look much more flared than on the previous upper. They also tossed in a couple of decals and a American flag velcro patch, which was nice. The only problem is that they didn't swap out the engraved dust cover I had on the previous upper, but that is a very minor problem and I'll take credit for that because I didn't specify it was installed on the upper I returned. Hopefully I'll be able take it out and shoot it this weekend to confirm it works properly. I'm glad to see that Spike's has finally tried to make things right. I'll give a range report soon.2 points

Hole size and terminal energy notwithstanding, ask a bad guy which one he'd rather be shot with and I'll bet he'll say none of the above every time; including .22. I don't think you can say that any pistol caliber has guaranteed one shot stopping power. Therefore, my thought is that you should carry whatever caliber or gun you are comfortable enough with to get off multiple shots accurately. Then with as much capacity as you either think you need or can accommodate with your method of carry.1 point

Two of my favorites. In my mind, both are must reads for anyone who may face a combat situation. On Combat by David Grossman (also On Killing by the same author) - If I can recommend only one book, this is it. From the book description: "On Combat looks at what happens to the human body under the stresses of deadly battle the impact on the nervous system, heart, breathing, visual and auditory perception, memory - then discusses new research findings as to what measures warriors can take to prevent such debilitations so they can stay in the fight, survive, and win." Achilles in Vietnam by Jonathan Shay - This is my current read and it is utterly fascinating. The author looks at the root causes of PTSD in Vietnam vets by comparing and contrasting the soldiers experience with Homers Illiad. Specifically with the story of Achilles and his descent into beast like behavior and madness.1 point

This meets the letter of the federal interstate travel rules I believe, yes. Though I think some states you would be wise to have the AK in a locked gun box as well just to be 100% sure of the NYPD or similar "guns=criminals" type institutions. The unloaded chamber rule makes sense because a number of rifles are not safe when dropped (see hunting safety, 101) and therefore not safe in an auto accident or other scenarios. Empty chamber is a good rule, IMHO. While semi-autos are usually safe, its a simple blanket rule rather than make 20 exceptions to it.1 point

I've used my Mora Companion probably more than any other knife over the last year or so that I've had it, primarily for various outdoor chores around the house. It's tough enough to stand up to hard work, but cheap enough that I'm not afraid to abuse it. Easy to sharpen to scary sharp too.1 point

I'm a big fan of on your person. day planners, brief cases etc aren't really any faster to draw from than a waste holster and take your mind off of moving, the big thing is being able to move and draw quickly. The close range that you are describing is all about buying time, milliseconds count. The more time you can buy yourself the better. A good start is ensuring that you have a chair that you can get out of quickly, preferably faster than the other guy/gal. With this being the case i would consider the possibility of switching out your clients to one that slows their ability to get up quickly. With you being a psychologist i am assuming your familiar with the subtle clues that someone is about to attack. Another thing to consider is the kind of angle you are at to the client. I understand you cant go to crazy with angles, otherwise it's off putting to the client, but making things more of an oblique as opposed to more square will make the person have to move more to get a good hit. the average mans arm length is around 32-34 inches, with you being at 3 foot from the client you are in effect immediately within arms reach. Learn to use this to your benefit and position your body accordingly. If your right handed keep your left side slightly closer to the client, this allows you to use that left arm to exercise some level of control to include deflection of the bad guys firearm. Understand there is a possibility beforehand that with a gunfight this close you are likely to be shot, being shot does not equal being killed. if you can even just deflect the bad guy to a non vital area it still keeps you in the fight. I would highly suggest avoiding getting shot, but the reality is that your mindset must be prepared for that possibility. There is obviously much more to winning a fight at close range than the little i have posted, but it is late and i need to sleep.. Last bit of advise, Suarez International offers a zero to five feet gun fighting class that i have heard nothing but praise for. I have not taken it myself it is on my list of classes i need to save up for. If your interested in their course i would PM Cruel Hand Luke and inquire about availability and course locations.1 point

Another vote for the Wild Game Innovations from what I've seen so far from the one I have. The night time distance isn't as good as some of my other cameras, but the quality of the pictures and videos is just as good if not better at a fraction of the price. Plus after having one of the more expensive cameras stolen a while back I decided I would only buy fairly cheap cameras from here on out. I'm working on trying several different ones, and so far this one is the best. Definitely not a big fan of the cheaper Moultrie cameras.1 point

You all should check out the Robust! http://www.ragweedforge.com/SwedishKnifeCatalog.html If I was you all, I'd back up and look at the whole catalog a Ragweed Forge. While worth the time you will spend there! ;) Oh and Ragnar will ship up to 6 knives for something like $6. At least he used too.1 point

I don't own one but a buddy does and i've probably put close to 400 rounds through it and have never seen it have any issues. I put about 100-150 rounds of my cast bullet handloads through it and it did just fine with those. The rest was factory ammo that he had and I know once it was Federal and another he had some PMC but the rest i'm not sure about. It has been a blast to shoot each time I've had the opportunity to run it. It is capable of running many times faster than anyone's finger I've ever seen and does so like a sewing machine. Recoil is almost non existent and it pretty well stays pointing at whatever you want it to be pointing at. I'd sure like to have one but i've got a few other things ahead of it and since I can pretty well shoot one whenever I want, it makes the wait much easier. I've not heard of feeding issues with them but I've also only been around two different ones and only one of them for very many rounds but as for my experience, I don't think you would be disappointed.1 point
