It wasn't that long ago that it was unheard of for blacks to vote... or women. We need less government, not more of it. Let the churches decide who they will or won't marry.7 points

Well...... :waiting: I reckon starting a thread on the Current and Factual status of Garands within the CMP from one of its Master Instructors who recently had a visit to its Anniston warehouse and talked directly with its officials is not good enough to dispel those who would rather offer their own self-predictions, false information, and develop rumors. I tried.5 points

No worries, Got another one lined up and in 2 weeks I start working for a elctronics company( sales). Got tired of the drive to Manchester and after my interview monday, the Regional manager of the Electronics company I will be working for basically said he would hire me right then and there. But I gave wal-mart2 weeks notice yesterday. Going to work my full 2 weeks and start the new job on the 6th of November. Pay and hours i couldn't pass up.4 points

Almost, but not quite. The tarring and feathering is a little much. Here's the thing, just because something may not be a good idea for whatever reason, does not mean that the government should be making laws against it. I don't think it is a good idea to use IV drugs like heroin. I also don't think the government has any business making it illegal and stealing from the populace to wage a horrendous drug war against them to stop a consensual activity. No victim, no crime. Edited to add: Just because I don't think there should be a law against what somebody is doing, doesn't mean I can't tell them that they are a dumbass for doing it.4 points

Let's not let evidence get in the way of our speculation... We're talking 70 year old rifles, here. Regardless of how much Obama, Hillary and all the other boogeymen out there might hate the CMP, we're operating with a fixed supply of rifles that's going to run out sooner or later. They've seen their business change. A lot of folks today would much rather order online or via email instead of making the drive - so a private company made a business decision that makes sense for their business. I don't see a conspiracy here. People probably should hurry up and get one of these great old rifles; CMP supplies are going to be exhausted one day. But please, do it because of the respect you've got for the old warhorses - not because Obama's going to come take them.4 points

You know there's a simple way to shut BOTH sides up on the matter. Remove all tax credits for marriage. Say to the masses 'We don't care who you marry, it won't save you any money.' Both sides will be pissed but they will stop the bulk of their bickering amongst themselves. Everything boils down to money. America has proven the principle takes a back seat to cash every time. If NO one got a tax beak for being married, fewer would do so all around. The pot would boil for a little while longer then it would fizzle out and people would move on.4 points

I say let the gays have the same benefits as any other hetero couple in the eyes of the law. To me the government should see it as nothing more than a contract between two people and it should not matter if the parties are the same sex or opposite sex. I also believe that those who choose to live together without being "married" should be able to have the same benefits as anyone else who lives as a married couple. And if on person wants to live with multiple partners that should be their choice. The government should not have anything to say about who someone can and cannot be partnered with and neither should anyone else. Religious institutions, as well as their members, should not have a say in how anyone who is not a member chooses to live. People keep saying that the Bible says it is wrong but what if you don't believe in what the Bible says or if you are of another religion. That makes that reason invalid to anyone but the person holding the Bible. You think a Hindu couple gives a rats ass what the Bible says? People are going to live in the way they want to and as long as it doesn't affect anyone else it should not matter to anyone, any government or any religion how they live. It only creates animosity when one group tries to tell another how they should live and having less animosity between us all is a good thing. People are on a crusade to save other people from themselves. I suggest they spend that time trying to save themselves and leave the rest of the world alone. If we, as a country, could just let people live how they want the world would be a better place. Just remember this, there are more Muslims in the world than any other religion. If we can force people to live under Christian based laws religion then at some point the majority, Muslims, will be able to force their religious laws upon us as well. Personally I would rather let everyone choose their own way to live than risk being force to live in a way I do not want to.3 points

I don't care where the concept came from, it's irrelevant when it comes to making laws. I don't care if a person marries his lawnmower. It's none of my damn business. It's none of your damn business. It sure as hell is none of the government's business. We DO NOT live in a theocracy.3 points

A lot of talk recently on this forum that the CMP is running out of Garands. Here is a very recent picture of 1600 M1 Garands at the CMP warehouse in Anniston, AL. 40 crates x 40 rifles per crate. While I didn't take this picture (a friend did), it is representative of what I saw earlier this month during a visit to the CMP. This pic only shows a small area of the warehouse and a small number of the crates. While I wouldn't call the warehouse "Raiders of the Lost Ark" in size and number of crates - - - it is a very big storage facility. The number of rifles that the CMP can inspect/repair/ship per day isn't much different than it was a year ago. However mail orders have increased dramatically with the panic buying from earlier this year. Frankly, it caught the CMP by surprise - - - the 2009 Barry Hussein election induced panic buying didn't affect Garands sales. Someday the CMP will sell its last Garand and that day grows closer with every year....., but the current supply on hand appears (at least to me) to be what has been the norm for the past decade. So "Keep Calm & Garand On!"2 points

I don't know about race wars in the future but I do know about the present. I know the black guys I work with come to work everyday, work hard while they are there and treat me with respect. I know the black folks that live in my neighborhood keep their yards nice, discipline their kids and stop and talk when I'm in the yard. I know the black folks I go to church with have dreams, hopes, fears and disappointments just like I do. I know that I'm not to concerned with the future because I'm trying to treat my fellow man the way I want to be treated. All I know is the black folk I see everyday are just trying to make a decent life for themselves and their families. I know that black gangs that attack white people are just thugs and criminals. I know that white gangs that attack black people are just thugs and criminals. I know we need more good white and black police to catch and lock up these thugs. I know we need more good black and white judges that will send these criminals to prison for their crimes. I know we need more white and black prison guards to work these criminals on chain gangs from sun up to sun down. I know we need more black and white voters who will make the hard choices to make this happen. I know that these theories of gloom and doom always seem to come from the wealthy and intellectual elites that live off the public tit. I know these theories come from people who have never had to work from the sweat of their brows to just get by let alone get ahead in this life. I know that if those of us both black and white that have to live together in the " real world" don't unite and voice our unity these talking heads will keep spreading their poison. I know I will take one of my black friends to lunch this week just to show Sewell he doesn't know what he's talking about. I know that blacks and whites can live together in peace and harmony but not by the teaching of the intellectual elites. I know our lives of peace and harmony can only come through the teachings of Jesus.2 points

A club that has a CMP affiliation is often seen as a roadblock to many, but it can be as easy as joining the Garand Collectors Association which is a CMP club. http://www.thegca.org/ Here is the direct link that tells you what is needed to order from the CMP. http://www.odcmp.com...eligibility.htm It might seem like a complex way to get a rifle, but heck its a M1 Garand FEDEX direct to you. PM me if you need any help in getting your M1. All I got from that article was - Thomas Sowell is writing for World News Daily? Has the man lost so much credibility that it's come to this? Does he need a paycheck that bad? I've got a bunch of stuff that I'd love to say on this topic, but I am going to refrain for now so that I don't find myself having to moderate myself. I'm really of the mind to shut this thread down before it gets started. But, I'm going to leave it open for now. Let this serve as your warning. You are 100% right Tank. I can promise you if Alan West Runs he will surely get my vote. I have the utmost respect for the man and when he speaks you can take to the bank what he says. I would like to see a West/Carson ticket or a West/Paul ticket or West/Cruz ticket and then add a Senate Sweep and keep a Republican House and then maybe we can put this country back on solid ground. At the Same time put all these criminals that have been in office in prison for Treason.........jmho2 points

How about we get the government out of everyone's marriage - gay and straight. Seriously. Make them all civil unions, and if there are benefits to be had, then extend them to everyone. If you then want the church to recognize your relationship, and want a ceremony in a church - then find one that echoes your beliefs and get them to perform one for you. Even as a Christian, I just don't get it. I don't particularly agree with the homosexual lifestyle, but it's not like the sin they bring to the table is somehow greater than the sin that I bring to the table. And, from a "who is my neighbor" perspective, I just don't understand how you keep someone out of a hospital room or whatever in a time of need. Power is terribly corrupting, but I'm wary of the end result when we as the church try to use the government(Babylon, if you will) as a weapon to do our bidding.2 points

Well I actually voted no to this because the thought of having a bunch of people walking around on the sidewalks and in malls and grocery stores with AR's and AK's would really be unnerving in so many ways I can't list them. I don't have issues with anyone wanting to own and shoot a dozen of them if the want to in the correct surrounding and even to hunt with. I just have this picture in my mind of seeing them in Malls and Busy parking lots and sidewalks filled with children and adults and it is not a good picture. Back when I was in high school I had a deer rifle and a shotgun in the rifle rack in back window of my truck in parking lot at high school with plans on going hunting after school. Different time in a different country than we live in today. ..........jmho2 points

That is correct. From the CMP link I provided above...... Marksmanship or other Firearms Related Activity: You must provide proof of participation in a marksmanship related activity or otherwise show familiarity with the safe handling of firearms and range procedures. Your marksmanship related activity does not have to be with highpower rifles; it can be with smallbore rifles, pistols, air guns or shotguns. Proof of marksmanship participation can be provided by documenting any of the following: Current or past military service. Current or past law enforcement service Participation in a rifle, pistol, air gun or shotgun competition (provide copy of results bulletin). Completion of a marksmanship clinic that included live fire training (provide a copy of the certificate of completion or a statement from the instructor). Distinguished, Instructor, or Coach status. - Concealed Carry License. Firearms Owner Identification Cards that included live fire training. - FFL or C&R license. Completion of a Hunter Safety Course that included live fire training. Certification from range or club official or law enforcement officer witnessing shooting activity. A form for use in completing and certifying your range firing can be downloaded from the CMP web site at http://www.odcmp.com/competitions/forms/marksmanship.pdf If the first seven examples of activity doesn't apply to you, I can sign the certification form that affirms firearm activity. Any of you who have shot IDPA, 3Gun, Service Rifle, or F Class matches with me can print out the form for my signature. I also sign this same form for anybody who I have ever provided firearm instruction.1 point

Maybe the information from my ethics class 20 years later is outdated, but I was taught a mock execution of a prisoner was a war crime, and against the UCMJ under all circumstances. Has that been changed? As for your clear and present threat... lets be clear it's not like some of his soldiers were being held prisoner and he was trying to find them before they were executed... He had intel that an attack was being planned on his unit, brought an Iraqi officer in for questioning... When beatings from the interpreter and several army personnel didn't work... LtCol West dragged the police officer outside, showed him 6 US Army soldier with weapons and said they would kill him if he didn't talk, and finally when all of that hadn't worked... he stuck the prisoner's head in a barrel and fired a round in the barrel next to his head... Then the prisoner 'confessed'.... Now, the supposed ambush never happened, there was never any evidence proving an attack was going to happen, and we ended up letting the Iraqi police officer go because we couldn't come up with a single charge to hold him on.... So yeah, "wrong thing for the right reasons", is a kind way to describe what LtCol West did that day... he was trying to protect his men, but he went way overboard... Which when you're trying to rescue a POW, you might excuse doing whatever it takes to get your men back... trying to get a confession of an attack which isn't even scheduled to happen until tomorrow... maybe not so much... He can't be elected, anybody who says otherwise is kidding themselves... doesn't mean Allen West isn't a good man, or somebody to admire... but he had a mistake and took protecting his men too far, and did so knowing that it would likely end his career... That takes real courage... but in this case it also precludes you from being elected President of the US.1 point

My vote is always 2400 because it is less "peaky" than H-110 That and 2400 is quite a bit more versitile....it doesn't have to be loaded max like H-110. Has a larger charge window. It is my go to powder for 44 357 45/70 and most lead cast/ low velocity bottleneck rifle rounds.1 point

So, here's my Armadillo story: Several years ago, I lived in Florida on a couple of acres. Armadillos were constantly tearing-up my yard. One day, when I came home from church, one was rooting around in my front yard near the street. He was not bothered at all when I turned into my driveway and drove past him (could have been a "her", I guess). My home was set-back about 50 yards from the street. I drove down the driveway, grabbed my pellet gun in the garage, and snuck back towards the critter, keeping a bunch of palmettos between us so he wouldn't see me. Now, for some reason that I can't explain, I only loaded one pellet in the gun. Anyway, I got close enough, and popped it with the pellet; thereby causing the armadillo to run into the middle of the palmettos, and just stand there. So, I proceeded to go back to my garage, and load another pellet in my gun. Again, I don't know why I only loaded one pellet - but I did. I snuck back to the palmettos, and he was still just standing there. He let me get within a couple of feet, and I was able to get a good head shot. Then, the most bizarre thing occurred, the armadillo ran onto my driveway, jumped about two feet in-the-air, and then landed on this side; got on his feet, and repeated the process over-and-over - jumping, "splatting", and jumping. I then proceeded back to my garage once again, only this time I exchanged my pellet gun for my aluminum softball bat. When I got back to the armadillo, he was still jumping and splatting in the exact same spot. I then took a stance like I was getting ready to take batting practice, timed my swing for the top of his jump, and gave him my best shot. I then found out that well-struck armadillos don't go "near as far" as well-struck softballs. Despite nearly breaking my wrists, and after a few more whacks, I was finally successful at eliminating one more "roto-rooter" from my yard.1 point

Those are separate issues. I realize that it is the same people pushing gay marriage as the people wanting to force churches to perform gay marriage and classify Christianity as a "hate group", but that doesn't negate the validity of the argument that gays view their relationships the same as heteros view ours. It doesn't matter what I think about gay marriage, since it is not my business. That is really the root of it here. I don't know a bunch of gay people, but I know a whole buncha straight people who have crappy marriages and should have never gotten married in the first place. I could easily argue that those people don't have the same relationship I have with my spouse. Of course, my opinions don't matter for squat, and I don't believe we should legislate on behalf of what I think is a normal marriage. That violates the basic principles of liberty no matter how you slice it. When the gay lobby comes after churches then I'm down for that fight. I don't believe the church should be in the business of legislation any more than I think legislation should be in the business of the churches. I agree that the gay lobby is and will come after religious institutions in an effort to force them to perform gay ceremonies. But two wrongs don't make a right. We should always approach any legislation from the perspective of liberty first, and go from there. Yep, liberty leads to moral decadence, but it is better than the alternative. Morality should be a choice.1 point

That is for the North (Camp Perry) and South (Anniston, AL) Stores that are walkin. With several thousand mail orders, its hard to keep the stores stocked so they are now opening on Thursday-Sat instead of Wed-Sat. The operation of the shops are still going strong trying to catch up with all of the unfilled mail orders for rifles, ammo and other items. The rifles all require inspection, repair and grading and mail order demand has exceeded the amount of rifles on hand that the staff can make ready for sale at the stores. I was at Anniston two weeks ago. The store didn't have near the stock that it had this time last year, but that was before the latest Obama Induced Panic. The shops were as full as ever with rifles. In the store I did come across a nice service grade Jan 1942 Springfield M1D Sniper. It found its way to Tennessee. :dirty:1 point

We did look for one in Memphis. Your guy still had his FFL address listed as a residential address, and we just weren't comfortable sending our members to someone's house that we don't have any prior relationship with. For that matter, we really looked for FFLs in Johnson City, Jackson and Chattanooga, too. You'd think that having a bunch of new customers coming into their shop and maybe buying something would be attractive. Our vendors jumped at the chance to participate. Everyone else looked at us like we were crazy. I guess they just didn't want the administrative overhead of having to add the stuff to their books. It was kind of crazy to me, though. I run a small business. I'm not really in the mindset of turning away people who want to give me money.1 point

I caught an airplane on fire once right at the boarding gate. Black smoke pouring out of the auxiliary power unit. I blew the fire bottle and the temp went down on the gauge and then slowly started rising again. Only one fire bottle for the APU on that airplane. I forgot to close the fuel shutoff valve feeding it after it caught fire. So it kept burning. The gate agent asked me over the radio if they could board the aircraft and I told her "No, the airplane is on fire, I need the fire department at A8" She came back and I swear she said, "Does this mean we can't board?" Fire department comes in with excitement, (they don't get to play fireman much outside of training), hose down the airplane, baggage belt loader, passengers bags, and me standing at the back of the aircraft. It was declared a crime scene until the NTSB came and got statements from me, the flight crew and everyone witness to this. Police officers actually guarded the aircraft and we were not allowed to take bags off or anything. For safety, the cop let me shutoff all the power to the plane. Needless to say, the flight did not go that day, but the passengers got a good story to tell everyone why their flight cancelled. I got to stay and change out the APU after the NTSB showed up. After that incident, I was nicknamed fireball and was told they were going to make me wear mittens so I couldn't flip switches and push buttons. In my defense, that thing was going to catch on fire no matter who tried to start it next. I just happened to be "That guy" and I did not help the situation by not closing the fuel shutoff valve.1 point
