I'm really glad to see that Mr. Zimmerman is getting on with his life as best he can with Liberal Dweeb-assed America doing what they do best which is either spin the truth or just outright lie, which is all they know how to do.3 points

E&E (escape & evasion) would be my first choice, I'd only stop if I was forced to & I'd only engage if I was engaged first. But once engaged I'd do anything & everything to protect my family, even if that means dozens of rioters had to die to do so.2 points

For some people, it's not another chore that needs doing, it's a hobby and a lifestyle of choice. Therefore, it's much like a TRUE Christian. If its all for naught, then in the end, nothing is lost because the journey was enjoyable. I actually USE a lot of what some call preps. I rotate food. I actually SHOOT my ammo instead of hoarding it up. I use the oldest and replace it with fresh goods. If this is all for nothing, so what? When I die, I won't care anyway. Maybe after I'm gone, what I've put away may make the difference between life and death to a man and his wife and kids. If I don't use what I tuck away and after I'm gone, some random dude saves the life of his little girl because he happened upon my stash or stuff then my labor was WELL worth my time.2 points

I am done fiddling on gross parts. I may tweak the triggers, bedding, and maybe get a couple of barrels rechambered, or if I fall into another stock and receiver I could put one more together with spare parts. However, these 5 are it for the foreseeable future. From top to bottom: 1) Barrel: 29" Bentz chambered Urban Rifle Supply standard taper; Stock: Archangel target; Scope: Swift 6-18AO Mildot; Bolt stock 2) Barrel: 29" Bentz chambered Green Mountain standard taper; Stock: Archangel target; Scope: Tasco Varmint 6-24AO Mildot; Bolt stock 3) Barrel: 24" Green Mountain Running Boar; Stock: OEM carbine stock cut and painted; Optic: C-More red dot; Bolt stock 4) Barrel: Green Mountain varmint taper rechambered and crowned; Stock: OEM DSP modified; Scope: Mueller 4.5-14AO duplex; Bolt refaced, headspaced and firing pin pinned 5) Barrel: OEM Ruger 16" threaded rechambered and crowned by Que; Stock is OEM modified birch stock; Scope is Simmons .22Mag 3-9AO duplex; bolt refaced, headspaced and firing pin pinned. The top 3 are currently play rifles with trigger varying from 2lbs to 3.5lbs. The bottom two have triggers in the sub 3lb category. No. 4 is a verifiable sub MOA .22 (groups less than an inch at 100 yards). No 5 probably will be capable of that but remains to be verified.1 point

Some family fun. You get desensitized to the idea of every city in America having an armed military style assault team ready to kick in your door, shoot your dogs, and hold your family at gun point over nothing. Also, unless things have changed, these NNO events are paid for through federal grant dollars.1 point

A lot of confusion develops when you try to value one life before another, woman, child, officer, or whomever. As a LEO I can tell you that most LEO's will risk if not give their life to save another, no matter who's life it is. Chances are this LEO had reason to believe this person was a huge threat to himself and others. What I can tell you is that any criminal considering killing a police officer will kill anyone for any reason.1 point

I look at it this way... If you manage to elect a great politician, odds are slim to none that he will accomplish anything great. If you elect a bad politician, odds are nearly 100% that he will accomplish something bad. Voting is a defensive move.1 point

Not only that but if you suggest that you might vote for a third party, they get all butt-hurt that you would dare to vote for someone other than the 'big two' and start crying about how you are just wasting your vote, how you might as well be voting for (whichever candidate they don't like - ironically, people from both parties use that tired, old argument) and how all the popular kids are going to laugh at you if you don't go along with the crowd. What they refuse to see is it doesn't matter if a significant number of people voting for the third party prevents 'their' guy from winning because 'their' guy isn't really any different from the 'other' guy, anyhow. Funny thing is, those who argue that a third party 'can't win' (which, as you pointed out, is a self-fulfilling prophecy until enough folks stop believing that bullcrap and have the cajones to try voting for someone other than heads or tails) are kind of making the other point I am arguing - that voting is, essentially, useless because neither of the big two are going to make any, significant improvements and any third party candidate who might (or might not) make improvements has no chance of winning. Once, again, bread and circuses.1 point

Probably those tiny little units under the SO umbrella that are secret squirrel or have a specific mission set that allows them access to special weapons orders. There are also non-standard weapons purchased for R&D. An example would be all the 6.8 uppers bought about ten years ago that never went anywhere due to ammo constraints.1 point

I think you misunderstood my comment. I would *not* plow thru them to get to a game on time. I said that for some of the people trapped in the traffic, the protesters are causing harm and the protest has turned, in that case, destructive (on par with vandalism). At that point I am happy with removal of the protesters by force. Not by running over them, but police etc. Blocking a road is dangerous and destructive --- and the police, army, etc should show up, ask them to move to the side of the road, and if they refuse to comply, remove them. If someone stuck in the traffic is in dire need of medical attention, however, then the protest has turned VIOLENT. Denial of medical attention is a violent act and a deplorable one. In THAT case it is simple, you tell the protesters that you need to go through and that you WILL go through. IF they do not move, in this situation, THEN it is OK to run over them. That is about the only reason (unless the protest is violent already) to run over them. Anything else, you wait for the law to move them or try to find a way out.1 point

http://gearhungry.com It ranges from billionaire luxury items to really neat items that you could actually use that cost merely a few bucks. It has a lot of products I had never thought of until now. The one that got me was a lenscap adapter that fits in the bipod mount on your DSLR. Take your lenscap off, attach it to the bottom of the camera! Something else interesting is the generator built onto your bike that charges your phone: http://gearhungry.com/2013/05/siva-cycle-atom.html I'm thinking something like this and a large capacity iPod Touch/iPhone would be indispensable in SHTF. Neat alternative to solar for mobile devices!1 point

I've also had all three in FA (from military days) and would also go with the FAL. Mine was the 16 in paratrooper, so it was a lot easier to maneuver around vehicles and in general. I will say that firing any of those on FA was doing little but making a lot of noise, with the exception of the M14 resting on a sandbag from the prone.1 point

I'm actually working on an article on this subject right now. They all have pluses and minuses. They are all also relatively obsolete from a "modern" firearm perspective. That does NOT mean they are no good...it means they are 50 + year old designs and there are more modern tools available. Also keep in mind that a REAL M14, FAL and G3 is NOT going to be what you buy now. Most all of them are different than the real ones. And the foreign made ones have to have enough US made parts to import them. Springfield armory has been out of Mil Spec M14 parts since about 2002 . The M1A is mostly newly made MIM parts now. The FALs can't be imported and FN stopped making them long ago. A pre ban FN is $3000 a pre ban Springfield SAR48 is $2000+. The newly built ones that are available from DSA are US made receivers and most of the Mil Spec parts they got from Styer are drying up hence the steady climb in pricing. Or your other option is to buy a kit and a receiver (DSA or Coonan) and have someone assemble it.... And HK does not even build or import to the US the HK94 anymore and a pre ban HK made G3 clone will be $2500 and up. The paddle mag release is normally not found on the imported guns due to import restrictions and how ATF views HK machine guns (long story). So the push button mag release on the right side is how you get the mags out. Unfortunately this is the least ergonomic feature of the 3 rifles but there are places that can retrofit the paddle release to the gun if that is important to you . So your options on a G3 is pretty much an HK preban import, a Springfield SAR3 (or 8) for about $ 1500 or a new gun from PTR. Their GI model is built with parts from Portugal on equipment acquired from Portugal with enough US parts to make it legal (Portugal made their own G3 licensed by HK ). I have a pre ban Portugal made FMP G3 and it is pretty much all you can realistically ask for in a battle rifle. (for full disclosure I also have 2 M1As and 2 FALs) The M14 was already obsolete when it was adopted. It is essentially an updated Garand. It is a fine target rifle and a decent fighting rifle but it is old school technology with a hunting rifle stock. The FAL was a better choice but we already had all the tooling to make Garands and M14. The FAL was a more modern rifle with pistol grip and more like what we expect now from a fighting rifle. We actually "agreed" to take the FAL and adopt it (which was originally designed around a different cartridge) and we made the NATO countries take 7.62x51 as the cartridge for it and then backed out of the "deal" and started production of the M14. The G3 was produced by the Germans when the Belgians refused to allow them to produce FALs. The G3 was essentially a modified CETME from Spain designed by German designers who left Germany at the end of WWII . It used a pretty radically different operating system than the FAL or the M14. The G3 is as tough as a telephone pole but slightly less ergonomic than the FAL. In 2013 the choices for a factory new rifle are pretty much either an M1A that is essentially a target rifle now with less than the most robust internal parts and magazines that run around $40 a piece, a DSA FAL that is getting really expensive (about $1800) or a kit gun, and Mags that run around $25-30, or a G3 from PTR (the GI model) that is built on the original Portuguese machinery, still reasonably priced (can be found just shy of $1000) and mags are $5 to $10. If you want a modern .308 rifle that will easily mount optics (mounting optics was an afterthought on ALL 3 of the rifles) then the SIG 716 is a piston AR in 308 with flat top receiver and can be had for less than the new DSA. But if optics are not critical then any of the 3 will work....they are just not the SAME as the REAL ones.1 point

Well, there is 'white' and then there is 'white'. See, all the 'hispanic', 'white', 'arabic' nonsense is just that - nonsense. Those terms actually refer to comparatively minor difference which really only denote subgroups, not 'races'. From a skeletal biology/evolutionary standpoint there are actually only three races: 1. Caucasoid. This includes 'whites', 'arabs', 'hispanics' and, believe it or not, even Australian aboriginals (despite their dark skin.) Features of a skull that indicate probability of being a caucasoid are the presence of a nasal seal, slight 'overbite' of the incisors with a lack of sub-nasal prognathism. Largely North African/European in origin. 2. Negroid. This refers mostly to people who can trace their modern ancestry to South Africa - i.e. 'black' people, African-Americans, etc. (which is another misnomer as all modern humans can trace at least part of their origins to some part of Africa or another so, technically, if going by ancestry we are ALL, ultimately, African-Americans in one way or another.) Skull features of this racial group generally include the lack of a nasal seal, a comparatively broad nasal aperture and the presence of sub-nasal prognathism. 3. Mongloid. This group includes most Asians and peoples of Asian ancestry - including Native Americans (which is further proof that Native American ancestors were of Asian stock and crossed a 'land bridge' to North America.) Features of the skull include flaring zygomatic (cheek) bones, an edge-to-edge bite pattern (meaning the occlusal surfaces of the incisors meet, i.e. the top incisors rest directly on the bottom ones) and 'shovel-shaped' incisors. Three races. That is it. 'Hispanic' is an ethnic group, not a race. So, Zimmerman is a Caucasoid - just like any 'whitey'. All that said, what the heck all of this has to do with whether or not Zimmerman acted in self defense I am not sure. Maybe the fact that Martin was black contributed to Zimmerman's suspicion of him and maybe not. I have said and will always believe that Zimmerman's decision to follow Martin was a bad idea but it really doesn't matter why he decided to do so. Once Martin attacked him, he acted in self defense. Ultimately - even though some people (myself included) believe that Zimmerman's decisions contributed to setting up a bad situation - the trial came down to whether or not he ultimately acted in self defense, just as it should have, and Zimmerman was found not guilty, just as he should have been.1 point

This is going to be my last post anywhere (the blog, Facebook, or TGO) about this case. Trayvon Martin is dead because Trayvon Martin decided to unlawfully attack George Zimmerman. Whether GZ's assumptions were accurate, whether he is a racist, whether he followed TM after the police told him to stop, or whether GZ could have used other means to end the assault, the single fatal gunshot was in response to a proactive attack made by Trayvon Martin. He could have run away or gotten off the phone with his girlfriend and called the police, but instead, he decided to attack GZ. There are a lot of gun owners, including some on TGO, that need to think long and hard about this case because their words suggest they are quite willing to fire off a gunshot at the mere hint of aggressive behavior and/or take full advantage of the "stand your ground" provision of the law if given the chance. As this case shows, one can easily find themselves sitting in the defendant's chair or dead because of they let their ego get in the way of prudent and wise decision-making.1 point

The ' taking breaks' doesn't bother me as much as some of his 'advice'. Being that I am not former SAS, etc. I am pretty sure that telling me (and 99% of the rest of his viewers) to go ahead and jump off of that waterfall - just be sure to land feet-first - in a survival situation where there isn't a camera crew there to help rescue me and a broken leg, especially in cold water, means almost certain death is probably not very good 'advice'. That is why I say that 'Man vs. Wild' was about Bear Grylls, extreme outdoorsman and adventurer and not about what most, normal people should do in a survival situation. In that context, it was entertaining to watch but comprised pretty much the opposite of 'survival advice'. But that is just my opinion.1 point

I turned it on right about the time they were doing the urine/muddy water competition and changed the channel before the competition was over. I think of BG as more of an extreme outdoorsman/thrill seeker than someone I would try to emulate in a survival situation. I think that following the advice/examples of Les Stroud (Survivorman) would be a lot more likely to get a person out alive and in one piece.1 point

av88tor is correct. Champion and Superior do build their lower end safes in Mexico. They use U.S. STEEL and make a good product but they are manufactured in Nogales, Mexico. Basically if there's an "M" in the serial number, it's from Mexico. I wish they were all U.S. made but after many competing safe companies started manufacturing safes in China, Champion and Superior went to Mexico. My prices are consistantly fair but they can indeed be matched or beat. Value and price are different. I make a lot of friends selling safes. I've had a lot of jobs over the years, military, law enforcement, construction, park ranger and others but none compare to what I do now. I have more fun selling safes and meeting the people who buy them than I could have imagined when I got into this business. The people that buy quality safes are of a unique caliber. They are almost always good folks. I do my best to get to know them and figure out their particular safe needs. By the time we're done talking safes, we've usually esablished a lot of common ground relating to God, guns, family and country. Friendships are established. If you're after the cheapest safe, there are many other places to buy. To us at Parker's Safes and Vaults, prices are important, but quality and lasting value matter more.1 point
