Does society expect me to call or wait on a fire department to arrive before I or they can extinguish a fire that threatens my property or life even though I have access to a fire extinguisher? Another view, does society expect me to call or wait on the police department to arrive, before I or they can stop the threat to my life even though I have access to a firearm? I just heard this from someone, and never considered this perspective.3 points

Depends on who you ask, personally I would hope you had an empty fire extinguisher by the time anyone else showed up3 points

Sounds like its time to make some phone calls. Get me a name and phone number and I'll pass it to a few contacts along with the flyer info. They will push it on facebook and usually generate several thousand angry phone calls over this shit. I'm sick and tired of public schools pushing their liberal agendas. Its time to let them know what we think and to tell them we are not happy. Tapatalk ate my spelling.2 points

Thanks to Ted I got my son out to the range for the first time today. I expected him to jump at every shot he heard for the first 10 minutes but even with BigK shooting his XDS 45 in the next lane.... he never flinched. I started him off with a Ruger Mark II and then moved up to an M&P 15-22. It took him a few seconds to understand the red dot, but soon enough he was doing mag dumps in about 6-7 seconds with his mouth wide open in excitement! At 15 yards he was a heck of a shot. Lets just say, you wouldn't have wanted to be on the receiving end. He didn't come out of the black often. We even let him have a crack at a CZ P-01 and a CZ Shadow. He fired 1 from each and though it kicked him harder, he didn't complain about it. Big thanks to Ted for giving him an experience to talk about for some time to come. Also thanks to BigK for being awesome as usual and supplying the firearms. Looks like i'm on the hook for buying at .22lr now :)2 points

So, I've had the idea for awhile to use Carolina Shooters Supply's AR handguards but I was a little hesitant since it doesn't appear anyone had tried it on a Draco yet. So here it is. It was fairly easy. Only real modifications was to remove the lower handguard retainer (i cut mine off with a Dremmel), drill a hole in the bottom of the receiver for the HG retainer bolt, and modify a gas tube (sans HG retainer caps) Still have to finish modifying a gas tube. I'm going to try a Saiga gas tube first. Any suggestions would be welcomed. I really like the full length of the handguards, the light weight, and I believe it will dissipate heat better, and they're modular.1 point

Caster I agree with you but these parts have less than a box of shells through them and that is a lot of wear for such little use, I want to be a vendor on here for a long time and it would not be right of me to say oh well, and my vendor feels the same way. I just feel bad that some bad ones made it out. But it does happen, even Glock makes a lemon every now and again1 point

There were tables stacked two and three deep with them; new in the box, from $65-$79 at every gun show in the mid to late 80's. I picked one up at that time as well, but mine is now far from being unfired. I sure wish I could pick up another ammo can filled with 1000 rounds of Norinco 7.62x39 ammo for $100 again. Thanks for the fond memories.1 point

"Prepping" is a new term, one I didnt even know 5 years ago. While most would consider me a prepper, its how I was raised. I grew up in the mountains and we would get snowed and iced in without power for at least a few days every winter. I grew up with a dad who was raised dirt poor, who built or made 95% of what we had with his own hands. Thats why I garden , hunt, can foods, and raise live stock. Its also why I learned and practice blacksmithing, wood working, timber felling, carpentry and masonry, horse logging and working, and dozens of other old fashioned skills that are in a steady decline. A world changing event may never happen. But most of what I listed above has kept me employed and paying bills even without a full time job last year. The rest put food on the table and could put a roof over my head if the need arose. Tapatalk ate my spelling.1 point

Her "Jews should get out of Palestine" was the only rad thing I can remember her ever saying (and of course a large part of the the world would agree with that), and it's unfortunate that's what so many folks will remember. How deep is the case stuck? I had a friend bury one, and with no extractor in sight, we went the old school bearing fix. We put the die in the freezer for a bit, then took a propane torch to the brass and it slipped right out. Used this method on many a tractor bearing to get it off or on when it was press fitted.1 point

My Dad is a barber - so I'm accustomed to free haircuts. I went the clipper route after getting married for a couple of years; trimming it every three/four weeks. Whenever I was back in my hometown, it was back to Dad's shop for a cut. For the last three years, I've been shaving my head two/three times a week. Headblade makes an awesome razor. It only takes a few minutes to shave in the shower. After about 4 days, the stubble gets a little long and its time to shave again.1 point

http://courantblogs.com/dan-haar/state-police-to-gunmakers-no-more-advice-on-designs/ With morons for politicians can anything else be expected? The best comment to the article was a quote from Atlas Shrugged.... “Did you really think that we want those laws to be observed?†said Dr. Ferris. “We want them broken. You’d better get it straight that it’s not a bunch of boy scouts you’re up against – then you’ll know that this is not the age for beautiful gestures. We’re after power and we mean it. You fellows were pikers, but we know the real trick, and you’d better get wise to it. There’s no way to rule innocent men. The only power any government has is the power to crack down on criminals. Well, when there aren’t enough criminals, one makes them. One declares so many things to be a crime that it becomes impossible for men to live without breaking laws. Who wants a nation of law-abiding citizens? What’s there in that for anyone? But just pass the kind of laws that can neither be observed nor enforced nor objectively interpreted – and you create a nation of law-breakers - and then you cash in on guilt. Now, that’s the system, Mr. Rearden, that’s the game, and once you understand it, you’ll be much easier to deal with.†—Ayn Rand, Atlas Shrugged1 point

It's almost like he's been reading all these threads on TGO. I don't agree with him pigeon holing this as a white issue. I may not know a whole bunch of black folks, but the ones I do know would be in the same category as me; working class tax payers that do not approve of this administration pushing us to the brink. Having been in the army I've worked with more Hispanics from places like Mexico and the Dominican Republic than I could count, and they're Facebook pages are riddled with anti-Obama memes. This isn't a white issue at all. It is a middle class, backbone of America issue.1 point

I dont know if subsonic .22mag is available ( why when you have .22lr?) But it is available for 5.7 as well as other specialty rounds. I believe the 5.7 is more versatile and its reloadable. “The main thing I feel bad for is it gives every white person and black person who’s racist a platform to vent their ignorance,†he said. “That’s the thing that bothered me the most. I watched this trail closely and I watched these people on television talking about it. A lot of these people have a hidden agenda. They want to have their racist views, whether they are white or black … Their biases definitely come out. It was a bad situation. We all lost.†--Charles Barkley ^^^ This!!!1 point

All I know is that if it wasn't for establishment conservatives, we would be screwed a lot worse than we are now. There is a LOT of opposition to most things in DC. "Real" conservatives, and "Real" liberals don't have the numbers to run the whole show, and they never will. You can only purify things so much before you lose critical mass. It's one of the factors in Obama's reelection. Would I take a "RINO" over Obama? Hell yes. It's a big boat. Changes are gonna be small and slow. There is lots of opposing force. AFIK, it's always been that way.1 point

I think you hit the nail on the head here, but it brings about an interesting situation with respect to a third party. The advantage gained would be to force the Republicans to get off of their "Establishment" agenda and start to truly serve the People's interest. Third Party candidates do not have to win to achieve a goal, they can just pull enough conservative votes to let the Democrat win, which might put the Republicans back in a mind set to work with conservatives instead of paying no attention at all to their entreaties. Work with us, or face us...1 point

It is far fetched because the only candidates in the 2 party system (2PS) who even have a shot at winning are the ones who get the blessing of the state and/or national party. Without that support, the candidate is far less likely to get the campaign funds, endorsements, and logistical support needed to win. Add in the reality that these parties will actually work against people running under their party label whom the party does not like. When you vote for a Republican or Democratic candidate, you are almost always voting for one that has been vetted, bought, and paid for by the party. Since the Republicans (I'm going to presume that's the party most everyone on TGO supports as I did for my entire adult life until 4 years ago) are putting up candidates election cycle after election cycle that we don't like, that should tell you something. The Republican Party is like an old building. Sometimes it's just not worth trying to fix, but it's better to moves and build a better building. I'm arguing that the Libertarian Party is that building. The ballot box won't make any difference if people keep supporting the same 2 party system. The political parties are like any other entrenched social entity, whether it be political, governmental, or private. Once they exist, they will do what is necessary to maintain the status quo and preserve or expand their power and influence. Social institutions only change to survive. Until people bite the bullet and shift their money and support elsewhere, the 2PS is only going to change enough to keep people from leaving, dupe people into believing that their interests are being represented, or keep their political efficacy low so they don't vote at all and leave the policy-making process to favored individuals and groups. First, your premise that the Libertarian Party would only draw from the Republicans is false. Due to the Party's more liberal stance on social issues, it attracts many from the Democratic Party, particularly the fiscally conservative Blue Dogs. This is why you don't see or hear of the Dems pushing the Libertarians in any way. They know that the LP is a threat to them as well. You're buying into the fear mongering of the Reps. If the Democrats were really pushing a "divide and conquer" tactic, the Dems would be funneling money to the LP, trying to subversively drive Reps to the LP, they would be talking them up in a way that made them look attractive to Reps, etc. None of this is happening. Instead, Dems say the same kinds of things people here do about third parties. The Dems also know there is tremendous discord in their own party and they don't want to risk making third parties seem viable. If you really, I mean genuinely, want to see political change, then the third party is the only way to do it. Tell me how this plan of weeding people out is going to work (see also my points above). Tell me why the Republican Revolution under Newt didn't change anything, or why the Tea Party has been generally a failure. The two parties are going to resist weeding out those elected officials or actively try to destroy those innovators who do get into office. If a significant portion of those who are fed up with the system we have now would stop drinking the two party Kool aid and vote for a third party, especially the same third party, the two parties would have to adapt or fall apart. This is why the Tea Party was able to shake things up as they did in the beginning. Their failure was partially due to their stance on using the power of government for controlling social morality (a direct contradiction to the ideology of a free society with smaller government) and their connection to the Republican Party (see again my earlier points on this). Of all people, Republicans should know that the Party came into existence over a split within the Whig Party over similar issues and was able to get Lincoln in the White House in less than a decade.1 point

That's modern survivalism. That's the reason you put that food away. It'll be rough, but you'll make it. Where this delusion of complete collapse comes from I don't know but surviving the near future will be just like what Rightdefender is going through right now. The rug got yanked out from under him and his foresight to put away a meal or two will keep him from starving and allow him to keep his pride. ....and by pride I mean not begging the system to get time at the government teet at tax payers expense. You gotta know, things will get bad, really bad before they collapse altogether. The chances of an overnight cataclysm is close to zero. Sans a foreign invasion it will take a bit of time for everything to look like a scene from "the road". We have to survive that too you know. It's much more likely that you will have to endure unemployment, natural disaster, your house burning to the ground etc than Red Dawn. I can't stress this enough. DO NOT PREPARE TO SURVIVE THE FUTURE, it's a waste of time. Prepare to survive NOW! Keep your mind on the here and now where it belongs. You have to train your mind to see that we are ALREADY in a survival situation. Greed is a destroyer but kept in check by helping others (that deserve help!); there's a healthy amount of greed that will keep you and yours alive to face tomorrow. It boils down to priorities. If you wanna smoke weed and play video games, go for it. I'd rather have a full belly before I sleep and to know my wife can sleep without fear. Survivalist have good intentions but many if not most need to restructure their way of thinking.1 point

For some people, it's not another chore that needs doing, it's a hobby and a lifestyle of choice. Therefore, it's much like a TRUE Christian. If its all for naught, then in the end, nothing is lost because the journey was enjoyable. I actually USE a lot of what some call preps. I rotate food. I actually SHOOT my ammo instead of hoarding it up. I use the oldest and replace it with fresh goods. If this is all for nothing, so what? When I die, I won't care anyway. Maybe after I'm gone, what I've put away may make the difference between life and death to a man and his wife and kids. If I don't use what I tuck away and after I'm gone, some random dude saves the life of his little girl because he happened upon my stash or stuff then my labor was WELL worth my time.1 point

I think it's rather insulting to the black, African-American, hispanic, latino, Asian, EurAsian, Middle Eastern, and all other non-white, hard-working Americans who also are being robbed of their wealth by the leeches in this country when he singles out whites. In addition there are plenty of whites who are just as much on the government teet as the blacks to whom Dr. Manning refers. I think overall his message is positive but his delivery leaves much to be desired. YMMV.1 point
