  1. It's my hope that these "free market entrepreneurs" will either get stuck with these guns that they don't want/can't afford or lose hundreds of dollars when they have to resell them.   Here's hoping that Karma really is a bitch.

  2. The difference between 223 and 5.56 is pressures of the loaded ammunition. 5.56 is actually loaded to a higher pressure, 10K-15K, than commercial 223. And because it is loaded to a higher pressure something must be done to reduce pressures and that is why a 5.56 chamber generally has a longer throat. The long throat allows pressures to begin to drop before they encounter the resistence of the rifling.   Firing 5.56 is a gun chambered in 223 is not going to result in a catastrophic failure of your gun. It will cause a bit more wear and tear on your firearm. If your 223 firearm blows up from shooting 5.56 then your gun has some serious issues. Is it recommended to shoot 5.56 through a 223 chambered gun, no. But doing so from time to time will not cause the world to stop spinning or gravity to reverse like some people seem to imply. Pressure signs yes but no dramatic failure.   There are a lot of guns that are marked with 5.56 chambers that are actually 223 chambers. And likewise I have checked the throats on several guns chambered in 223 and they were longer than 5.56's throat. There is an article where 1 in 4 "5.56" guns actually have 223 chambers. If a 223 chamber resulted in a kaboom when firing 5.56 there would be a lot of guns blowing up.   I have a AR chambered in match 223 that I shoot 5.56 out of regularly and have yet to see a single problem.   Dolomite

  4. Ya know, the thing that really ticks me off is the most of the self described liberals are silent.  They jumped all over Bush, and at times it was justified, but they are silent when Obama has expanded what Bush was doing.  These people aren't liberals in the true sense of the word.  They are nothing more than partisan political hacks, and to be quite blunt, they can kiss my a$$.  They have absoutely no credibility.   (edit) - I would like to add McCain, Graham, and their ilk to the list that can kiss my a$$.

  9. Anwar Al Aulaqi:  actively engaged in the recruiting of terrorists to attack US interersts at home and abroad and was a known alqaeda leader   Abdulrahman Anwar al-Aulaqi was colateral damage of a strike targeting Ibrahim al-Banna whom the US governemnt did not know was there (not sure if i believe this one)   Samir Khan was killed in the same strike that killed anwar and was also involved in the recruiting and taining of alqaeda operatives.      So yes two of the 3 were engaged in combat with the US  the third was collateral damage of a legitimate target.

Y'all may or may not care, but Mountain Man from "Duck Dynasty" will be in Portland for the Strawberry Festival this year:   http://www.portlandtn.com/strawberry_festival.htm   He's a local boy and a pretty big deal here.  Should be interesting to see all the 'interesting' people that turn out for that!

  11. This looks like the answer to the question nobody asked IMO. I'd rather take that $200 and buy 200 rounds of Wolf at panic pricing. If I'm going to waste money I might as well be able to at least use what I'm throwing it away on.

  12. Never had an AR platform in 22 but I've had a wheelbarrow load of others. I just don't like it. It's not an ego trip, I just don't like the piddly little things. I don't like big stuff either mind you. I'd heap rather have my Ishapore in 308 or my 30WCF '94. I can load round ball gallery loads for around 5 cents per round to hunt varmints or have fun. I can cast a 180g flat point for deer or even small bear. I just loaded some 235g plain base cast bullets for some subsonic 308 fun. The rimfire just can't offer me that. AND to be totally honest, I wish I felt different. A .22 has very distinct advantages. I just don't like them. ......I've NEVER been accused of being normal ya know.

  13. Seeing a lot of the tech as it's developed, I think we're at the very edge of a new era.   When it comes to drones, there are a lot of hard questions that need to be asked.  I applaud Paul, Cruz and Wyden for asking a question publically.  I hope they keep the pressure on the administration.   You can't stop innovation (though the government has done a huge amount since September 11, 2001 to discourage it).  As an engineer, I live to innovate.  New technology, new processes and new value are exciting to me.  But, technology always has to be balanced with morality.  And, morality evolves a lot more slowly than technology.    Our law enforcement agencies are already chomping a the bit to employ drones.  Law enforcement here in Middle Tennessee can't wait to turn them loose.  And it should be noted that drones won't be used solely by the government.  Private companies are looking to use them as well.  Note that the article I referenced above talks about air guardsmen using their new skills in the private space.   The questions surrounding drone use are hard questions.  We need to wrestle with them.  It's important for us as humanity.    It's not like this is a particularly new debate, though.  Call Captain Kirk a prophet before his time.  From A Taste of Armageddon:   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yKmUd0zHW4w

  16. Actually, it is the opposite when talking about .308/7.62.  The .308 WIN cartridge has a higher pressure than the 7.62 NATO.  Therefore, a .308 chambered rifle can shoot both, but .308 is not recommended for use in a 7.62 NATO chambered rifle.

  17. 1: contact local law enforcement and ask them for increased patrol in your area 2: game camera; even if you cannot get plates, you can see more than you are seeing at 120 yards 3: confront anyone parked in your driveway (I have done this before); just be safe

  20. ETP, I just want to say thank you for a great, intelligent and insightful take on this situation. It, to me, is obvious what this teacher was doing. She was doing lessons on different religions. How that became evil liberals forcing our poor children to dress up like terrorists is beyond me.

  21. What whole part about 'public danger' in the 5th amendment?  Lets post the 5th amendment and point out to me the "public danger" part:     Now, as for your thoughts on a police officer using self defense, or deadly force in defense of a third party, there are a couple of flaws in your logic. First, every citizen in this state can defend themselves and others from a criminal threatening serious bodily injury or death.  That self defense is not an action by the state, but by the person...  whether that person is a police officer or not, and we label those killings as justified homicide.  Nobody is questioning a police officer using self defense or defense of a third party in those situations.   The issue is when a person poses no immediate threat of death of serious injury to others, that person is protected by the constitution whether the President says their a terrorist or not, period.  There are no exceptions to that.   So it's a simple test, if you could legally shoot somebody in self defense if placed in the police officers shoes, then it's a non-state action and justified self defense - not covered by the constitution.  If you would be charged with murder for killing somebody in those same shoes, then it's a criminal act which if done by a government official is also a civil rights violation under the color of law.

  28. Damn dude, a bandana with a lock on it, going back to prison tactics here    I am just messing around though, I love the idea.  A guy at work makes those monkey fist things and made one with a cue ball in it with a long tail, its also metal detector friendly    He does the same thing with solid foosballs.   I like the idea of a comm plan of some kind.  I have been making it a point to start discussing scenarios with my wife too.  I told her about how I am always scanning and analyzing possible threats and that was a new concept to her so hopefully she starts doing it too.  I explain to her what signs to look for and all that.   I need to start thinking about non-firearm defensive weapons for "gun free zones" for my wife and I.   Good story, thanks for sharing!

  33. I think you give our government too much credit, assuming this sort of thing would only ever be used to stop an immediate threat. I guarantee it's only a matter of time before a US citizen is taken out as an 'AQ operative'. Hopefully the operator will have better aim than they've had in foreign countries. If you can't see this as a slippery slope, I don't know what to say.

  36. Picked up a 325 rd pack of Federal for $25 at the Lebanon gun store. I pass by everyday so figured I'd walk in. The guy was limiting 1 box per customer. Some douchey guy walked in and was complaining bc he wanted to buy all 10 boxes but the store owner would only let him buy one box so every customer had the chance to buy some. He kept whining about not finding any at any store. I wanted to pipe in and say yeah bc douches like you go in and buy everything is why you can't find anything.
