I just had this conversation with a friend. While the article should be a little alarming, it isnt anything new. That sort of stuff has been coming down the pike since the mid 90's. I was on active duty when I first learned/heard of it. What really concerns me is the ability of the DOD and VA to strip members and veterans rights without due process.

The reporters need to leave the guns alone, and do an investigation on all the illegal aliens we have here in TN, and why they are getting food stamps welfare and free health care. Then you can worry about the NICS check some other time..   Or how jobs are being sent overseas, and what the impact on the national/ local economy is. Ok, this is a good one, EBT card fraud and abuse that is a hot button..   Even better people that live on welfare and food stamps for years (as in decades)   Let’s do some REAL investigative reporting..   -HPH

I'd change one thing about sequestration: No exemptions. Cut everything.  Yes, that means military (including retiree benefits), social security, all of it.    All.  Of.  It.   Equal % cuts until we're balanced. If they want to cut out specific programs to save money, fine.  That savings will be applied equally to all of the across-the-board cuts.

Is it a crime to pursue someone who just robbed you at gun point?    This has nothing to do with "stand your ground".  Perhaps he was following him so he could be a good witness and tell the cops where the guy fled to.  After all, it was his money that was taken, and he has a right to his stuff, unless there is a law out there that says you absolutely MUST hand over your money, then suck your thumb in the corner as the bad guy runs away.   Where would he have broken any laws?  The bad guy EFFING SHOT AT HIM, and only then did the citizen draw his weapon and return fire.   So, the victim here was in a place where he had a legal right to be, after the criminal robbed him at gun point.  The victim attempted to follow the suspect and was shot at and therefore returned fire.  Maybe I'm just stoopid; could someone please point out where the victim committed any crime versus the criminal who committed armed robbery and aggravated assault/attempted murder?  Or are we just applying our own values to "what I would have done" and thinking falsely that has any sort of bearing on law?   This is the story:   Bad guy robs good guy.  Good guy follows bad guy.  Bad guy shoots at good guy.  Good guy shoots back and wounds bad guy.  Good guy gets his stuff back.  Bad guy goes back to jail where he belongs.   This guy should get a friggin medal, not a bunch of people wishing he be prosecuted for doing absolutely nothing that is against the law.

By this logic, we should declare the general populous crazy for continuing to elect these idiots!

Its just a fact of life in my opinion.   The era of a gun in the home with a present, caring father who taught the kids simple safety are gone.  We need education, and while every gun sold has the papers with rules of safety and links to the NRA site and more, no one bothers to read it, or if they do, they do not follow the rules.    What we do today is on par with letting folks get a universal driver's liscense (lets say for cars, 18 wheelers, bikes, etc) by signing off on a sheet of paper promising to obey the laws.   People who have never held a gun before are buying them as adults and get no training and little in the way of education.   This is going to cause a lot of accidents and incidents, period.      My thoughs on it are that it should be taught in highschool, to both genders, in all schools.  Nothing fancy here, just the 4 rules of safety and some good background on what NOT to do.     On top of that, I hope that instead of running away from these people, that we can man up and quietly, in a friendly way, TRY to reach out to them.  Don't be confrontational (really, there are a few people that will shoot you for being a jerk).  Don't have a hissy fit (counter productive).  Talk guns for a min, try being friendly even if you want to strangle the person.  Then move into safety, and try to somehow explain the rules.  If the person is unwilling to listen, and some will be, there isnt much to be done there unfortunately, but its worth 5 min to try.   Keep it simple, its not an action shooting match.  If you can get them to keep the finger off the trigger and point it generally in the direction of downrange, as well as being aware of cold range calls, its a big, big start.   Running from the range is perhaps wise, but it does not help anyone, it just changes out one victim (YOU) for someone who was less aware of the problems (some other new guy who was not watching the other shooters).       reloading --- is not a noob issue.  Experienced reloaders make mistakes, get complacent and careless, start watching TV while they handle explosives, etc.   I think that is the biggest danger: growing careless due to feelign experienced about it, missing a detail and boom.  

  You could be right about the DHS training ground, I don't know. I hope you're wrong. But I don't think the answer is to flee. We need to dig in and fight everywhere, not just where the gun laws aren't as bad as New York, Illinois, and California. We need to fight for our constitutional rights especially in those place where they are in the greatest jeopardy. And in places like Tennessee where at least we can buy our rights from our generous government we need to fight to be able to exercise our rights for free and not be forced to prove we aren't criminals in order to do so.

I took my boss to the range the other day to train him on basic firearms usage.  He had an incident at his home a few weeks ago and it convinced him he needed to get some protection.  Anyway we pull up to the range and a long time shooting buddy of mine was there along with the biggest crowd I have ever seen.   My buddy says come here a minute, so my boss and I head over to talk to him.  He says stand back here and watch for a few minutes.  We had postitioned ourselves behind the firing line caddy corner to the range where we could see everything that was going on.  What i witnessed there over the next 15 minutes was something in all of my years (33) of shooting that was unprecendented.    First thing I saw was a nice looking family of five, a daughter maybe 15, a son maybe 10, the daughters boyfriend the mom and the dad.  The 10 year old or so was shooting a single shot .410 straight into the ground 5 feet in front of him at a mud hole.  Then he handed it over to the mother so she could take her turn.  She attempted to fire the weapon and nothing. She then turned to her husband perpendicularly swingin the barrel down the firing line and gestured as if to say it didnt fire.  He then looked at it while the gun was pointing across the range and pulled the hammer back -- while pointing across the range and handed it back to her.  My buddy and I immediately called them on it.  The father got an attitude and stated he had been shotting all his life blaaa blaaa........anyway next incident   A younger kid was shotting a PX4 and shot a hole throught the roof.  I looked at my boss and said we will come back another time.  After talking with with the president of the range we are going to have to install range officers now or no shooting it looks like.  Anyway moral of the story there are lot of new people that have never fired a gun before that are buying Glocks, Xp's etc.       BE CAREFUL and do not take anything for granted.....watch before you shoot.     An indoor range near here a women shot her boyfriend (a instructor, LEO and former military)  when the hot brass went down her shirt......     Its a different age now, and some of us are not giving the LIBS water for the fire.

    Looks like we're getting our money's worth at 10 bucks a pop.  :lol:   Might want to mention that as well.  We are forced to pay an additional tax (fee) in this state when purchasing a firearm for a service the Federal government provides for free.

A cut in the growth of spending is not a cut in spending. The way that is spun drives me bonkers. A cut is spending means you spend less this year than you did last year, not that ou increased your spending by less than you thought ou would.

I don't personally have an issue with these.  I think many are drawing conclusions and correlations that aren't there.  This is not about "training" to shoot children, or pregnant women, or grandma.  This is about being able to train and better identify on "instinct" a possible threat.  Just because you identify a possible threat doesn't mean that you automatically shoot.  I think most well trained LEO's will attempt to determine if a threat is real or not before firing their weapon.  Not all, but most.  At the end of the day, it comes down to a Human making a decision.  Sometimes they will be right and sometimes they will be wrong.  Welcome to the real world.  If these types of targets help them identify threats better, so be it.     I personally get a little tired of some in the gun crowd complaining when they think something is offensive and then complain when others complain something is offensive, but the gun owners don't think it is.  You can't have your cake and eat it too.  Yes, if they were pictures of black people, someone would complain, even though that wouldn't be right either.  Let's not stoop to their level, everything is not a conspiracy.

 Don't bet on it. I got some retired pals and the VA does all it can to delay or refuse claims. They'll offer plenty of pills though. Get you hooked then they can control them.

Thanks, this one took me almost 15 years to "justify".  I mean let's face it, there's not a whole lot of use for a 22LR bench rifle, but now I know what my limits are too.  And I feel like its a pretty good practice rifle.  Now if decent 22LR would only find its way back onto the shelves I would be all set.

IMHO the whole "no-hesitation" training policy is an extremely flawed concept, not every civilian with a gun in their hand is a threat that needs to be "shot on sight, without hesitation". George Washington & Thomas Jefferson would be appalled, as should every other free-thinking American, if a pregnant woman has a gun in her hand she probably has a damn good reason for it & she's probably scared out of her mind, how about identifying yourself as a police officer & simply asking her what's going on instead of gunning her down "without hesitation" as if she was some sort of Jihadi on a battlefield.

I don't want to turn this into an OC vs CC thread so PLEASE don't contribute to that but...... I think I am going to go against my better judgement and start OC'ing all I can. If my letters and emails are falling on mostly deaf ears I think OC'ing will at least do my parts to expose the general public to the presence of a law abiding, sane, responsible, gun owner/carrier. If anything it will hopefully lead to more questions about guns in general, why I carry, etc. I have already "converted 5 or 6 friends and it is a good feeling. I feel like I personally can accomplish more doing that than sending emails.   I believe if you do it right and give them the correct information and maybe even a little free 1 on 1 lesson time they can in turn do the same for their other friends. Best way to get the fire started in my opinion. Again I know most have been doing this all along but I am just gasping for air I guess. Looking for something to make a difference.

So I guess our parents and grandparents who have paid into SS all their lives on the promise of receiving a retirement income should just go ahead and starve to death and decrease the surplus elderly population. We can just forget about the fact that if these people had simply be allowed to save the same amount of money stolen they could easily be millionaires...no, we'll just steel their money while they are working and then say...you don't get anything back; sucks to be you!   And for our soldiers and sailors who are lucky enough to actually server a career without getting killed should just go "f" them selves too.   And let's not forget the truly poverty-stricken who actually can't work or care for themselves...I guess they can just go die in the street...we can send along the meat wagons to haul their bodies off like they did during the black plague.   There are PLENTY of things that need to be cut including entire departments of the government that shouldn't exist at all but just "cutting everything" is about as helpful as saying "let them eat cake".

Krull, let me know if you want to go to a private range 10 miles outside of the tri-cities. It is capped at 300 members and i don' think we have had a new member in a few years. Waiting list is getting deep but i can take guests. Typically, i don't see another shooter unless its a saturday or a match.

It's not just new shooters/reloaders many years ago I was at a local range and with an all clear a couple of us was down range changing out targets when boom an old timer had fired his rifle down range at a target near the both of us. This hadn't been the first time I was told this gentleman had done that. Needless to say I don't visit that range any longer and that's why I bought property and built my own range. Just because there's an all clear still don't make any of us safe when down range. That's one day I will never forget.

I'm sorry, but the title of your post seems to imply that there was a time in recent memory when the Republicans WEREN'T weak-kneed. They're just as bought and paid for as the Democrats. They share one common goal: get reelected. That's the only thing that interests any of them. The current compromise is just another example of how they allow the Democrats to control the message and are forced to "compromise," or as anyone with any sense would call it, buckle.
