  4. Jeebus has the media nothing else to report on? How about crushing debt, no jobs, Obozo's leftist socialist policys, the cost of Obozo care, worthless unions and politicians and so on. Oh wait.....nobody cares about that...just destroying the Constitution and everything it stands for. Assholes....

  5. My parents moved to Idaho a few years back, and one of the things I've really missed is the weekend "do-it-yourself" projects my dad and I used to get into when they lived down the road. So when dad told me they'd been in town for a few weeks for a conference, I started trying to find a fun project for us to work on. Dad could only really commit to one day - so I had to find a project that we could do pretty quickly, but I was at a loss. So this past week I was putting the Christmas decorations in the storage room and I noticed this old TV stand. It's been collecting dust (and my overwhelming collection of White Wolf books) for years - basically since we got the flat screen. The wife wanted to throw it away, but I always held out hope that I'd use it for something cool. Today was its day. After talking over the possibilities with dad, we decided to turn this old thing into a gun cabinet. Right now I don't have any way of securing my guns from kids or houseguests. So we headed to home depot early this morning and got some 3/4in maple plywood and got to work. Stuff we already did: - Fixed the doors so they actually close and stay closed properly. - Doubled up the bottom to be sure it could hold the weight - Removed the shelf from the center to make room for the guns (measured it to 5" taller than the Mosin) - Added a stabilizer down the center to hold shelves on either side and to allow me to install a lock. - Added a reinforced back. It didn't have a back before. - Added a reinforced shelf on the right side to catch the door. That shelf will hold my valet where I dump my wallet, keys, etc every day. - Added a shelf for the pistols (10" tall) on the left side. - Reattached a bunch of the molding. Replacing double-sided tape with brass screws. - Replaced the entire top, as it had some water damage from a plant my wife kept up there when it served as a TV stand. Things left to do on it next Saturday after the gun show: - Binding the doors together on the left side, to make one big door. - Install 5 more shelves on the right side - two below the one there now (for Ammo) and three above (Belts, holsters, knives). - Install the pegs that will hold the guns along the left wall. I've got some long wooden cabinet door pull handles for this. - Install the lock on the left door so I can really secure the guns from prying child hands. Things I'll probably do on my own before I put it in the house: - Put a cleat along the bottom to stop the bottom doors and hold the padding. - Stain all the new wood. Refinish (light sanding and light stain) the existing wood. - Put some rubber or felt padding in the left side floor to protect the rifle stocks. - Install battery powered lights on both sides, so I can see back onto the shelves. - Put some hooks on the inside of both doors for hanging.... stuff. - Hang something cool along the back wall. I'm thinking a big metal barn star painted red. I'll post more pictures as the project progresses.

  8. With this administration I have learned while watching this hand (The AWB), what is the other hand doing (Amnesty For Illegal Aliens). I don't think even mighty O thinks he can get the AWB past the house or at least I hope not. Seems to me while we are focused on the 2nd he is pushing for 11-20 million new democrat voters. Stay all over congress about the 2nd, but if you oppose amnesty watch the other hand. I feel like we are being played.

  11. I don't think this has been posted yet, but I found it well worth reading. I just hope there is enough resolve in Congress to stand up to the obtuse folks like Durbin & Feinstein.   http://randywakeman.com/WhyGunControlJustDied.htm   Apologies if it has already been discussed here.

This is so great, I can't tell you how great I think it is, it's so great. :) Lots of blurbs on the web here and there, but nowhere better than this in American Rifleman, so I just scanned the thing. And the priceless part is that Rahm "DeadFish" Emanuel had to sign some of the checks personally!! (click on pic to expand to full size to read it): - OS

  21. I love how the media will reference something from a movie as if it is true. Hollywood used a .50 Barrett in the SWAT movie a few years back. In reality, just about anything can bring down an aircraft if it damages the engine. A .303 bolt action Enfield brought down a AH-64 Apache helicopter in Iraq. Better add that hundred year old rifle to the ban list.

  22. Trying to do some research on this story, and not fining out much. It seems like the Sgt's brother is the source and is asking for money for a "legal defense fund". I'm always suspicious of one-sided stories and a request for money. It would be nice if the reporter would get a statement from the PD or at least get the court papers.

  31. i dont think that the LEO market is bigger than the civilian market at all.  Military LEO combined maybe, but probably still short of civilian sales.  there are only a few companies that supply the majority of arms to the military.  When you combine that with the significantly reduced prices mil/le get their arms for its pretty obvious that the lions share of most manufacturers profits come from the civilian market.

  32. Lets think of companies like Barrett, that don't sell to California because they don't allow .50 BMG there. Barrett sells calibers of all sorts in all different guns. So, why not sell to California? To prove a point. Along with a VERY long list of companies that refuse to sell to that state. That just proves that companies can always sell their products other places, to other countries, always fill military orders, and do great without skipping a beat.    So, companies boycott police. Big deal. Police suffer, the gooberment gets the point that they don't have a major impact like they think they do, and HOPEFULLY stop this crazy talk and ban agenda crap. Sucks the police have to deal with it, don't take that the wrong way. But peoples eyes need to be opened. There are endless facts out there saying how more gun control is bad, and more guns for personal defense is good. Companies can not sell to someone and do great, this and that. I could rant forever, I'm about to loose my train of thought from thinking about how stupid this all is.

  35. I recently bought the Rock Chucker Supreme Master Reloading Kit  from Midway for $319. RCBS is running a rebate and you can get your choice of $50 or 500 bullets back if you purchase over $300 of their stuff.  Besides what's in the kit, you'll need a set of calipers, dies & shellholders, and a way to trim your cases. The Lee case trimmer cutter and lock stud and the appropriate Lee case length gauge and shellholder are what I ordered for trimming my cases. They're cheap and they get excellent reviews. You'll need a primer pocket reamer if you use .223 brass with military crimps. Then you need to figure out how you want to clean your brass......I ordered a Lyman tumbler, but you can get away a lot cheaper by cleaning your brass in a bucket of water with some lemoshine in it and then laying it out to dry or putting it in the oven for a while at low temperature.   I've had a bunch of fun just shopping for my equipment and deciding what I wanted to get. I just finished building my reloading bench and now I'm getting everything set up on it. I'm almost ready to start! I'm super excited!!! :D   Have fun!!!

  36. Save the barrel upgrade for when you DO wear out the one you have.  Chrome lining usually extends the life of a barrel by 50-100%.  Here's a good idea of barrel life for a normal steel barrel.   http://www.luckygunner.com/labs/brass-vs-steel-cased-ammo/

  39. Somehow I think the men who run and operate within the tier one units which took part in this exercise are not only smarter than most, but also have a great degree of common sense. I'm not sure what echelon you found yourself at within the armed forces, but you have ZERO concept of unit training plans if your answer to everything is 29 palms out in California, simply because we paid a lot of money for it. Besides, the word was put out to the public that this scenario was taking place. Even the news was there live when all this was going on. If a few people don't keep up with the news, oh well. Too bad I guess. Somehow these things happen all the time and nothing significant happens other than a bunch of people with no knowledge of how these things work bitching about it on the Internet.

  40.   I have indeed noticed that.   If of course I didn't believe in the overall integrity of the news gathering profession in the United States, I could almost conjecture that there exists some sort of shared group ethos, nay even an actual agenda, toward social change involving firearm legislation. But of course that would be tin foil hat territory, so I recoil from such an absurd viewpoint.   - OS

  41.   Creates about a murky 5-10 year path to permanent residency and a 20 year path to citizenship. If one does this thing and that thing and pays this thing and that thing and ...oh yeah, and actually wants to do it.   Most will just go ahead and die of old age as Mexican nationals, leaving two generations of American born progeny behind them as they go. Half or more of which we'll pay to either educate or run continually through the criminal justice system.   And of course creates a new giant untenable nightmare of bureaucracy added to the existing unworkable nightmare of bureaucracy. Probably cost every citizen in America an additional quarter a day essentially forever.   And does anybody really believe the border will be "closed" first? Or at all? Hah.   Other than all that it ought to work swell.   - OS

  43.   Not only is it training to operate in large urban centers, it is also training to work with local agencies on the ground.  This type of training has real world tangable benifits.  Everything from significant natural distasters, terrorist attacks on american soil, and to operating in foreign urban centers.  Not allowing the militar to train in major urban areas is counterproductive to having a standing army sworn to defend this land.

  46.   I don't think the rank thing is an "official" rule. Of course "official" is a relative term since the whole challenge coin thing is pretty unofficial.    My team leader used to love to bring his challenge coin in the shower held between his cheeks. He would lather up the shampoo and then let it drop. Sick bastard. :D

  48.   You know what?  I'm tired of hearing this claim being made by people like you.  I know you mean well and you're full of piss, vinegar and angst about this and probably believe you really will hole up in your house and make your last stand when "they come for your guns" but even you don't really know if you will carry through with that or lay down that rifle when you and your family are staring down the barrels of ten or twelve other rifles being carried by heavily trained, highly proficient FBI SRT operators.   What you need to keep in mind is the "fight" and the fact that it means different things for different people.   Some of your fellow gun owners have defined the fight to exist within the political space.  They are going to exhaust every single option they can to wage the battle FOR the 2nd Amendment politically.  If they lose this battle, the fight is over for them.  They won't be happy, but they will have hit the limit of their fight and that will be it.   Other of your fellow gun owners may seriously carry through with the "Come and take them!" challenge and trade shots with a superior force.  That is the boundary of the "fight" for them and they will go as far as they have committed to go... which will be a quick and violent end for them.   Both of these people have defined what their fight is and both of them will have waged it according to the parameters they were comfortable with.  It doesn't mean that the guy who chose to fight politically is any less serious about his convictions than you are, it just means that his weapons were the ballot box, phone calls, emails, letters and visits with his representatives rather than a stockpile of ammo and MREs.   If you want to go out in a blaze of glory, that's your business.   Until then, you share a mutual fight with the other guy who you're philosophically looking down your nose at.  You and he both share the political fight.  Let's do what we can to avoid you ever having to trade shots with those people coming for your guns, by fighting the current battle.   If that fails, well... good luck.
