This is so great, I can't tell you how great I think it is, it's so great. :) Lots of blurbs on the web here and there, but nowhere better than this in American Rifleman, so I just scanned the thing. And the priceless part is that Rahm "DeadFish" Emanuel had to sign some of the checks personally!! (click on pic to expand to full size to read it): - OS4 points
i would say OMFG and suit up cause the TERD HAS OFFICIALLY HIT THE FAN!... I doubt they try those shenanigans around here lol would be a black hawk down... how stupid is the military...
I've done stuff similar to this in TN before. Never an issue. The military isn't "stupid". In fact, there are more college degrees per capita in the Armed Forces than the general population. We have an all volunteer force in the most advanced military in the world. I've heard somewhere that in order to have the most highly trained military on the planet, you actually have to conduct training. I know that can be an extreme concept for civilians to understand, and that's why you are civilians. If you were Service Members or Veterans the concept of realistic training wouldn't be such a revolutionary concept to grasp.3 points

I have indeed noticed that. If of course I didn't believe in the overall integrity of the news gathering profession in the United States, I could almost conjecture that there exists some sort of shared group ethos, nay even an actual agenda, toward social change involving firearm legislation. But of course that would be tin foil hat territory, so I recoil from such an absurd viewpoint. - OS3 points

‘Carrying a Gun Saved My Life’: Meet Ryan Moore http://pjmedia.com/blog/carrying-a-gun-saved-my-life-meet-ryan-moore/?singlepage=true2 points

20 years ago, if a plane crashes and kills 189 people...for the next 3 weeks, all you hear about in the news is more plane crashes...even if it's a small crop-duster in Nebraska. Now, any gun related incident, no matter how large or how small, will be magnified and hammered at until the libs outlaw all gun ownership. It is an agenda.2 points

Let me get this straight, they want me the law abiding, tax paying, legal citizen to pay high insurance for all the irresponsible law breaking thugs. This sound vaguely reminiscent of my health insurance plan.2 points

Lordy. If someone actually used scissors to defend themselves, then we'd have to be licensed to own scissors. And Heaven forbid you need left handed scissors, that would require a tax stamp.2 points

Shotgun (Cruiser mode) at night and EDC in the other holster. When grandkids come, shotgun goes in gun safe and revolver is in my pocket during day and at bedside at night.2 points

Don't laugh. Think about it. ;) My wife grudgingly gave me one of her old iPhones. I wiped it and put it back to factory specs. I deleted anything it would let me delete. Apps are crap. There'll be no network support anyway. My plan: Acquire adequate solar charger, small and compact Adapt my dynamo charger on my emergency radio Upload information that I simply cannot memorize Download a high quality version of solitaire My plan is to create a compact "semi-self sustainable" information database. I need to ONLY keep high value information as real estate on this thing is limited to about 14 gig. I think anyone would VERY wise to do the same. She bought me a new iPod last night. A Gen 7 with 160 gig. I plan to build another database on my iMac that can contain a LOT more info. WTSHTF if I have time I can wipe out my music [Oh sweet mercy!!!   ] and upload to it, but i will keep this iPhone next to my BOB and have it ready already. NOW, I need youse guys help. What to put on there. I already have a few military survival manuals and a small playlist of Zepplin, Sabbath, Metallica, Firewind and a few others necessary to maintain my increasingly shifty mental stability. What else? I have some "Guides to Country living" that I can manually type into a Notes App. I don't mind actually hand typing the info. As we learned in school, maximum retention is gained by repetition so by transcribing some of it, I may retain a little in this little marble rolling around in my big head. As I said, suggestions and any holes in the plan?????1 point

http://www.npr.org/blogs/money/2013/01/31/170700177/should-gun-owners-have-to-buy-liability-insurance A friend of mine who is self-admittedly riding the fence on the current gun control efforts sent this story to me. My response to her was this: Curious what other people thought.1 point

MATCH: Intro to Competition Shooting - Saturday February 2nd, 2013 Round count: 115 pistol rounds minimum 5 Stage match: 1 Limited, 1 Vickers, 1 Steel Challenge, 1 Run n Gun, 1 Outlaw Steel For those that are having trouble finding ammo, I have secured factory 9mm ammo to sell at the range at cost. This is not for hoarders but for shooters attending the match. 100 rounds to shoot the match and another 100 rounds so that you will have it for the next match. I am working on 40 S&W and 45 ACP. Don't let ammo being limited be the excuse to enjoy a great day of shooting.1 point

Trying to do some research on this story, and not fining out much. It seems like the Sgt's brother is the source and is asking for money for a "legal defense fund". I'm always suspicious of one-sided stories and a request for money. It would be nice if the reporter would get a statement from the PD or at least get the court papers.1 point

Great find! I recommend the book The Axe Book. It covers this style, why it works so well and how to haft it properly. Basically the light weight, large bite and short OAL length lead to an accurate axe you get a lot of work done with. Compare that with the new Chinese axes that are just the opposite in every spec.1 point

F'ing government and its F'ing hypocrisy and word games. The same thing, with two names depending on who owns it? Personal Defense Weapon vs Assault Weapon. It's getting so bad it's humorous to me.1 point

If it were me I'd post the signs, then go size up the neighbors. If they seem okay I would just mention that I'd spent the day posting my property because of suspicious activity on the property and that I would appreciate them keeping an eye on it if they didn't mind. I would also invite them over to grill out, shoot, or anything else just to extend an invitation. Put it out there kind of like "I'm trying to protect my property but I don't think that you are the people that I need to protect it from." If they seem shady I just wouldn't mention posting the property and just say that I wanted to come by and introduce myself. Even if the neighbors seem okay I still wouldn't be quick to offer them use of the land. If they wind up being an intrusion it will be more difficult to get them off of it if you have already allowed them on it.1 point

One thought that came to mind: Liberals often cheat to fit their agenda. One thing liberals like less than the truth is conservatives. So let's say a new social forum comes out just for "conservatives". If you had a hidden agenda, what better way to get a group to self proclaim they are conservative, so you can gain personal info, E-mail etc. Not saying that's the case, rather just a thought.1 point

What the hell difference does it make whether or not our current theatre had high rise buildings? It would be stupid to only train to the abilities necessary for the next deployment. That kinda mindset would have had us preparing for jungle warfare in the years leading up to 9/11. Goog thing someone had thought about desert training. On a side note there are plenty high structures in Afghanistan. In fact, when I was in Kabul last year one of the HR units in country responded to a building take over by roping on the rooftop to retake it and kill the combatants. And who says they're training the police officers? I've done at least a half dozen joint training events with local, state and federal law enforcement from one coast to the next, and in every operation the LEAs were playing OPFOR. It gave them an opportunity to train on their tasks while it gave us an OPFOR which simulated a hostile indigenous police force. Don't let your assumptions run wild and see things that aren't there. This is normal and happens all the time, and will continue to happen no matter who is in the White House or how many Alex Jones subscribers there are.1 point

Just to get a feel for your question, what does optimum load mean to you. Is it the most accurate, cleanest shooting, hardest hitting, or most economical? Of the four choices I enumerated, you usually only get two. I have an M&P9 that I load for. My "optimum" load is 4.5 grs. HP-38 under a 124 cast TC bullet. It is more accurate than I can hold it, provides enough pressure to obturate that base of the bullet, makes the slide cycle reliably and dumps empty cases about three feet away from my right foot. At that level of pressure and velocity, brand of primers and cases is immaterial. I have not chronographed the load, but it's at the low end of the published data. If I were going to use the gun for self defense, my "optimum" load would be Federal 3 inch #4 buckshot(41 .25 pellets). I know, that's not a 9mm load, but that's just me.1 point

In many of these recent news stories involving children who decide to go on a shooting rampage, it appears as if some gun owners find it acceptable to leave their firearms unsecured in the home, even with children present. How about you? While at home, I almost always have a firearm within arms reach. The rest of my firearms are secured in a locked safe. I have a teenage daughter who's been raised around firearms and taught how to safely operate many of them. I would like to think she would never feel the need to go on a shooting rampage, or accidentally shoot herself or someone else. As a responsible gun owner, I feel it's my duty to do everything I can to ensure that never happens.1 point

To make your blades last much longer, soak the head in alcohol (not the drinking stuff, isopropyl) after each use for a minute or two. I too use the Mach 3 and I usually get 3 to 4 months out of a single head. So instead of using a four pack a month, I now use a four pack a year.1 point

Well, from reading other blurbs, the money has been sort of coming in at different times, and maybe more than just those three check representations, and something about Chicago coughing up part of Oak Park's share, etc. Think they finally got it all total just recently enough to get in this issue of the mag. Or something like that. And btw, for those who don't get American Rifleman, the cover is rather dramatic, and SIEGE is certainly appropriate, cause this is gonna be a long term thing: - OS1 point

I use a pen, paper, and a calculator since I don't qualify for the free stuff, and I mail the hard copies. I pay the government and the state of GA enough money, and I will not spend a dime more just to send them even more money. Screw that.1 point

Well, yeah, there's the "opt out" ("cop out") option there too, a way of releasing locals from the preemption of the preemption. Only in weapons law does TN set all these laws, but then allow them not to be binding under various guises. I guess this is the natural outcome if you start with the unconstitutional basic premise that possessing a loaded gun is illegal. - OS1 point

No, that's a lot of bull from people who have never been in a self-defense shooting. Remain armed until the police get there and have control of the situation. Do you want to be unarmed if the person you just defended yourself against has friends, family, accomplices nearby who are unhappy about you doing what you just did? Nope. Remain armed. Disarm when instructed by the police. Edited to add: I often see comments from folks saying they're not going to throw their nice Nighthawk 1911 or whatever on the ground when the police get there because it's too nice / pretty / expensive. When the police are arriving, holster your firearm before they get out of their car. Hands up and wait for instruction. If they tell you to unholster and throw it to the ground, throw it to the ground. If they tell you to lay it on the ground slowly, do it slowly. If they tell you to tap dance and pat your belly at the same time, do that too. Bottom line being, your stupid high-end boutique firearm isn't worth you getting shot over. If it's so concerning that your gun might get scratched, don't carry it. If you think it might go off when dropped or tossed to the pavement, don't carry it. Good guns don't go off when dropped. Do whatever the nice police officers tell you to do, following their instructions to the letter, and keep your mouth shut until asked to speak. And even then limit what you say. You were in fear for your life, that guy over there in a pile is the guy who attacked you, and you'll be GLAD to cooperate with the police after your attorney is present. You are in no state of mind to say anything else without your attorney present. Period. Establish that you're the good guy, point out the bad guy, point out the knife or gun or ball bat or chain or axe or whatever he was about to attack you with, and then shut your hole.1 point

Since making the decision to get my HCP I have averaged about 2 classes per year; usually going back and forth between handgun, rifle and shotgun as well as seminars about such things as appropriate use of deadly force, etc. and usually train at either Range Masters or at Tactical Response (although I also love Sealed Mindset as well). I read a good article in Concealed Carry Report (put out by the USCCA) a few months ago that posed this question in terms of whether a person is actually an "enthusiast" or simply a "collector". The author wasn't suggesting that there is anything with mostly being a collector but he was trying to make the point that people need training and should seek it out...he suggested that if a person is serious about using a firearm for his/her own defense then he/she should have at least one training certificate for every five firearms owned. :)1 point
