There will never be a time to relax. “Men fight for liberty and win it with hard knocks. Their children, brought up easy, let it slip away again, poor fools. And their grand-children are once more slaves.†D. H. Lawrence (1885-1938) What we are dealing with now is the result of the complacency of the past few generations. Believe it.4 points

There is a split, for certain. But it's not North v South. The split is between those who actually provide for their own food, shelter, healthcare, etc, and those who take those things from government. If you are dependent on government assistance, then you are on the side of Obama and the Democrats. Protest all you like that you are not supporting them, but if you vote for ANY kind of entitlements, then you are their creature. That is mostly what the whole Tea Party movement is about. Unfortunately, we are already at the point where too many people will vote to continue to get entitlements. That's why Obama won.4 points

My sister is a teacher locally and decided to bring up at lunch yesterday while my wife and I were out to lunch with a group of them that I supported a teacher's right to carry if they were so inclined . I was immediately confronted by one of the other teachers at the table stating that she wouldn't trust several of her coworkers with a firearm b/c they are borderline incompetent. I asked if she would mind putting those teachers names on a piece of paper for me so I could take that up with the principal of the school. She said "take WHAT up with the principal?" and before I could get a word out my wife interjected that if they were in fact "borderline incompetent" we didn't want them teaching our children OR carrying firearms in the school. While my wife rarely approves of my stance on firearms b/c she was raised to fear them, on the way home she said that she is much more scared of the idiots that have some how gotten into positions of power than she is of me or any of our friends who carry firearms.3 points

You are now paying more taxes. I was just checking my bank account and noticed my employer deposited my check yesterday. I noticed that it was less than my previous checks, and here I thought the middle class wasn't supposed to effected ;) . Seriously, I knew it was coming since they didn't extend the reduced payroll tax. While the tax increase really doesn't hurt me, it is the principle that matters. It seems to me that if the government wants to force me to live on less money that perhaps they should do the same. If I have to cut, then they should have to cut. Ya know, last year was the first year I didn't vote straight line Republican. I voted pretty much all independent as sort of a protest vote. What Republicans have shown me recently is that I was right in doing so. If Republicans cave on gun control, immigration, global warming, or any other nonsense then I will be totally finished with the Republican party. If the country is going to crash, fiscally speaking, then I want no part of voting in the very a$$holes who are causing it.2 points

The people in charge are psychotic, narcissistic douche bags but they are NOT stupid. What we NEED is a leader to rally behind. Black folks had/have them. They cater to their interests and stand as a beacon to the masses. We need a second amendment MLK jr. IF we had a rally point/person we could then get truly organized. IF we could truly get organized the feds would back down.....FAST. There'd be no need for revolution. The Cold War gave us M.A.D. Mutually Assured Destruction. It worked quite well. IF we could get organized on a national level we would have a standing ARMED militia that would out number everything the feds have by an order of magnitude! This wouldn't just settle everything overnight, it would also boost the sales of undergarments. Every politician and liberal would collectively defecate in their panties. They'd have no alternative other than to STFU. It needs to be done! I am no leader but I'm more than happy to follow. ....shut up Caster. You're talking stupid fantasy fiction again. No one wants to hear that crap.2 points

I can see them introducing a bill and it getting shot down. Then the back room deals begin and it will get attached to some other bill. And I suspect it will be one of those "you must pass it to see what is in it" deals like Pelosi said. Or they will do a voice vote. We must always make sure it is a roll call or by name vote otherwise it could happen like the hughed amendment. In a voice vote the leader determines who won, the ayes or the nos. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Voice_vote The Hughes amendment, that banned the sale of new machine guns to civillians, was passed in voice vote. And by all accounts it did not pass but Charlie Rangel called it as passed. This is the same Charlie Rangel who has been investigated for all kinds of ethics violations as well as illegal ativity. The liberals have no problem breaking laws or rules to get what they want. This is why we have another 4 years. Dolomite2 points

I don't see a need for any training beyond marksmanship. I'm guessing here, but I'd say a majority of HCP holders are more interested in marksmanship than the average police officer. If you want to make the marksmanship test harder than the current HCP or police quals, fine by me. This isn't a job, or an extra duty. This is simply allowing those who want to lawfully carry. They need to identify a threat (He has a gun/knife/hammer and is threatening me/a student/a teacher) and do what it takes to negate the threat. Anybody who can't figure out this decision matrix shouldn't be allowed to teach children. Heck, they shouldn't be allowed to drive. This decision matrix is no more complicated than the one any HCP holder has to use, so why bugger it up? Keep it simple. For situations that are not an immediate threat, call the police. Don't try to turn teachers into cops; they don't need to be a police officer to recognize and react to a clear and present danger.2 points

North vs South isn't at play today. In my opinion, there are a few problems. Some you will agree with, and some all of you won't agree with. 1) There have become enough moochers in our society so that they are able to vote themselves free stuff and charge it to the producers. 2) Very few people today give a damn about anything beyond their own immediate wants and needs. 3) With the advent of computers and computerized devices/cell phones, we, as a society, have lost the art of person to person conversation. 4) Here's the one that'll stir up a stink: We as a country have largely turned our backs on God. We can't expect his continued blessings if we don't attempt to serve him. There are other problems of course, but I feel these four things are the reason for our impending downfall as a nation.2 points

Yes, police get years of training - in the law, and how it is applied. Marksmanship, etc. - not so much. A shooting enthusiast is liable to outshoot a police officer. Let those who want, carry. A school resource officer (like the one in Colorado) is likely to be elsewhere, or eating lunch, or just a check collector who isn't gonna risk his life. The teacher is the one already there, and when put in a position of shoot or die, there isn't any question of what laws the nutcase is breaking, or what constitutes an illegal search, or if his miranda rights have been observed. Shoot until there is no threat, and settle questions afterwards.2 points

It is again time to make sure that EVERY legislator who represents you knows exactly what your position is. Don't just send off an email to a congresscritter and sit back thinking you've done your part. you need to send one to your State Congressman, State senator, Federal Congresscritter and also to both Corker and Alexander. Be polite, firm, and keep it short. Nobody will read more than a paragraph. Once you have done that, CALL the office of every one of those people as well. Again, be polite, and know what you want to say before you call. Keep it short as the staffers will hopefully be swamped and you want them to hear all of the other folks as well. Finally, if you can do it, make an appointment to see each of the above folks. If you can't get an appointment, visit their local office and let a staffer know what you want. Again, be polite, don't argue, and try to clean up a bit. If you can get some of your friends to join you for the visit, that will make a much greater impact. Again, do not allow tempers to get heated and start an argument. If a staffer or congresscritter disagrees with you, thank them for that information and inform them that you will be sure to pass that opinion around so that voters will know who to vote against next time. Then leave. And spread the word about that person. A personal visit is worth a hundred phone calls. A phone call is worth a hundred emails. But even an email is worth something! Biden has promised to get a bill through Congress and on Obama's desk by the end of the month. http://tpmdc.talkingpointsmemo.com/2013/01/white-house-nra-gun-victory.php Make sure they know that we will not accept ANY new restrictions on our freedom. If we get to the point where we need to bury our guns, then we may as well turn them in. We need to stand firm and make sure that EVERY legislator knows that if they pass gun control, they will lose their jobs.2 points

gun control has never been the answer. when you breed large groups of peoples that get everything free their whole life and don't have to answer to bad things they do,, you have mass problems. then you get the ruleing class that wants to control guns to give a false security of trying to fix the inner city problem.2 points

Obama is always trying to “work around†someone. Congress, the Constitution, now the NRA, next it will be “The Peopleâ€. You almost had to laugh anytime Biden was involved with anything; I wonder how the guy even finds his way to work in the morning. Well I’m not laughing now. These two guys are getting to ready to try to take down our country. Biden by trying to take our guns and Obama by giving illegals citizenship and the right to vote. This truly is a sad time. Congress and the Courts is all we have to rely on now. And I have little faith in Congress. The Supreme Court of the United States may be the only thing that can save this country.2 points

Funny how the same folks that want to call gun owners/carriers "baby killers" are the same people who will openly support abortion (in most cases) The left want gun control to help "save the lives of innocent children" but will do nothing to help the unborn. It makes me sick.2 points

I find it interesting that the journalist who wrote the story is ignorant to the meaning of the word "marksmen". They state the bills would allow "untrained marksmen" to carry in schools, but the very term "marksmen" means one who is trained and accurate with a firearm.1 point

You're close. Instead of North vs South, however, try Large Urban vs Rural. I've found that in most parts of the country, rural people widely share the same basic values. These are foreign to most living a large urban area, such as D.C., New York City, Los Angeles, Detroit, Chicago, etc. This is one reason I believe the constitution and amendments were very assertive in limiting the scope of the federal government. What may work for a couple in a downtown apartment may not be a good fit for a logger or cattle rancher far away from organized society.1 point

I would move the trigger forward, add a pistol grip and stock. The cutouts are already there and it literally takes an hour to do the conversion. Doing this conversion improves the trigger as well as removing several parts that might break eventually. Basically you grind or drill out a few rivets then assemble the gun like any other AK. I would recommend the kits that Carolina Shooter Supply sells. You can buy everything needed for the conversion for $150. If you have any questions feel free to ask, I have done several. As far as having the skills and mental fortitude to shoot a bad guy I will say this. I would be willing to make a wager that the majority of those who used a gun in self defense did not have military, LE or any dedicated training. The vast majority are going to be just like any one of us, a person who has done the minimum to pass their HCP. I suspect that in most cases where someone did use a friearm to defend themselves they did not have a HCP or needed to have one. I know we hear about a homeowners using firearms to do this and most of them do not have a HCP. It does not take a HCP or specialized training to use a firearm to stop a threat, people do it without either every day. I would also say that a high speed, low drag super highly skilled and trained person winding up in a defensive situation is extremely rare, like lottery winning rare. Think about it. It is already and exremely rare occurance to be in situation in which you must defend your life with a firearm. Then take into acccount how rare a person that has a substantial abount of tactical training is. The stars must align perfectly for the two to meet. We, as HCP holders, are a very small minority when it comes to those who have used a frearm to defend themselves. Dolomite1 point

I think we'll find that MOST teachers won't want that job. I think we'll find a lot of opposition from parents, and of course, every libtard on the planet. The goal is to eliminate advertized gun free shooting galleries. Schools get shot up because they have no way to defend themselves. Just the threat of armed oppostion will repel a lot of these cowards.1 point

I agree, we need more term limits, not less. Serving in Congress or Senate was never intended to become a full time job.8 to 12 year max in my opinion. Keep 2 term limit for president1 point

It seems to me that no one has noticed the tendancy of these shooters to stop themselves, permanently, when confronted by an armed "victim." I don't think we need to force anyone to carry a gun, or force any teachers to train as resource officers, but to allow those that want to protect themselves to do so.1 point

I will say Bowman is an idiot. And what qualifications does he have, other than being a veteran, to comment on the abilities of others. He is borderline liberal spewing the same "Wild West Shootout" BS that you find in most liberal articles. This has proven to be false time and time again. Mr Bowman, sell your guns to fund your move to one of the gun free cities, like Chicago or DC, where you will be safe. Dolomite1 point

I see anything #6 or larger(numerically smaller) as defense ammo for a shotgun. Number six would definitely be the smallest I would go. As for the oz load more oz =more pellets =more recoil. Also don't worry about all the 3" and 3.5" loads you typically find for Turkey hunting, they are louder and even more punishing, 2 3/4 loads are more than sufficient, they have atleast twice the energy of about any handgun loads. I definitely buy the cheaper stuff to practice with but when my shotgun is sitting in the corner its loaded with buckshot.1 point
I don't understand why people refuse to believe that our country was founded on Judeo-Christian principles. It is a known fact from their writings that many of the founders were deists. Why is that so hard to accept?
I'll accept it just fine. I just don't think it is an exclusionary clause. Perhaps if it was they would have put an amendment in there that specified that these freedoms only apply to those that believe that Christ is their savior. I refuse to believe it was implied.1 point

Here is a link which might help you. http://internetarmory.com/shotgun_ammo.htm I use 00 buck as my primary home defense load but have Slugs as well if needed. I would advise getting home defense rounds ( there is plenty of this speciality ammo out there). It can be expensive though. The cheaper boxes of 25 you find on the shelves is primarily birdshot or target ammo. I have a mossberg 535 tactical ( side saddle/adjustable stock)and it was my first shotgun, learned a lot from on this site and from friends who use shotguns to hunt. Mine already has a sling( came with the gun) But adding one should not be a problem.1 point

Well, my dehydrator showed up on Thursday. I am now munching on a few kale chips and some zucchini chips. Sweet potato chips for my wife are drying over night. We spent the last couple of weeks looking at what we typically eat for dinner and how much of it could use various dried components in at least some part of the preparation. We were pretty surprised... Next up is jerky of some kind. I think I am going to like this thing a lot. Mark1 point

50 million legal abortions since '73. 1.25 million per year, or 3,400 per day for 40 years. Unlike most traffic accidents, each of these is premeditated. If we just made killing legal in all of its many forms, end of problem. Survival of the fittest, as nature intended, eh? Plus the economy would boom with so many fewer people competing. - OS1 point

I liked our 709 pretty well. It will pocket carry but not easy, depends on your pockets I guess. For an inexpensive smallish carry gun, the 709 gets a "best value" vote from me --- for the money, it didnt jam, was a good size, and trigger was usable, recoil not bad. I would not turn one down. Only real issue we had was the sights were only casually pointed in the general direction of the point of aim -- good enough for up close, but it was quite a bit off at at 15 yards.1 point

If you sell for less than the current demand........someone is going to buy them and sell them for the current price and call you a sucker for not doing the same.
