Some of us weigh the known f-a-c-t-s, testimony and indications based on the information made public thus far, others gobble up the version that the media serves.
If you are trying to call me an arm chair quarterback or saying I am passing judgment on this guy; I am guilty as charged. As I have said many times; it’s what we do, it’s who we are. It’s just a discussion. I know the facts in this case and I know the media hype. The facts that are not in dispute do not look good for Zimmerman. I’m crystal clear on the “conceptsâ€. Although I acknowledge that I know nothing about Florida criminal law. Again… I know this is not a popular opinion on this forum; but it is mine. I’m open to discussion of the facts or even our thoughts while we armchair quarter back. But I’m not going to have a discussion with anyone that is obviously making personal attacks. I stood up for Zimmerman when they tried to keep him in jail. He doesn’t appear to be a flight risk and his life is in danger if he is in jail; let him stay out. I could not believe it when the New Black Panthers put a hit out on him and both the Justice Department and the State of Florida failed to act on that. That was without a doubt race driven. However, now it’s time for a trial.
The DA did not have enough to charge GZ. After NBC released the doctored recording and the resulting public outcry and protests, they brought in anther special DA to file charges. Even if you think GZ is guilty, you must admit that there is no evidence there to support malice or premeditation needed for 2nd degree murder.
I will absolutely admit that I don’t think there is enough to convict on 2nd degree murder. I think his reckless and negligent actions rise to the level of Involuntary Manslaughter. However, in one of the first threads we had a forum member that said he was an expert on Florida law and that manslaughter was not an option. If a reckless, negligent act that led to death of an innocent person is not a crime in Florida; so be it, he will be acquitted. But I expect to hear the state present their case. Anything less is unsatisfactory. I kinda feel sorry for this guy. A prison sentence will probably be a death sentence for him. But then when I think about his actions; he shouldn’t walk free, that would not be justice.3 points

I've learned one very important thing form the Zimmerman/Martin case... When I see someone walking through my neighborhood at night and it's someone I'm pretty sure doesn't live there (and yes, I do have a pretty good, although not perfect knowledge of my neighbors) and he looks like a gansta the only logical course of action for me is to cower in my house and hope he doesn't decide to break in (and if he decided to break into a neighbors house that's there problem). I now know this because obviously, if I make any attempt to leave my home and figure out if this 6'2" "kid" is a threat to me or my neighbors or whether he is just out for some skittles and soda and the "kid" decides to attack me because he thinks I'm following (even though I've clearly disengaged and is heading back to my vehicle) then I'm obviously the one in the wrong and I should just let him beat my brains against the sidewalk. Got it. I'm glad that's been cleared up for me.3 points
There you go again....confusing fantasy with reality. They did their job quite well in painting a picture of GZ as a vigilante racist and tainting the prospective jury pool. I hope GZ gets enough money out of the bastards to not only pay for his criminal defense in the farce of a prosecution, but to have enough left over to not have to work again.3 points

I think the administration is planning and preparing for breadlines. Hard to use an EBT when your address is the local tent city. O'care regulations are going to make the remaining job market look like a chum line in a shark fishing tournament. One way or another, everyones' taxes are going to increase - some dramatically. There will be a domino effect, as more lose their jobs more jobs will be lost - dropoff in demand for goods and services as people are unable to pay for even food and shelter. Small business is taking one body blow after another. There are 3 classes of people looking pretty right now - the welfare class, the politically connected, and gov't employees. Obama/democratic party cannot allow any meaningful 'entitlement' reform, so the presses at Treasury are going to continue rolling 24/7. Dramatic inflation is inevitable, as the night follows the day cash will buy less. Foodstuffs are already sold in reduced portions at the same price. At some point, the financial ice will crack, and we're all in for a swim.3 points

But several of us are very confused that you take the position that you have stated and you say that you are basing it on the known facts of the case, it is obvious that we are not talking about the same 'facts', as we don't see how anyone could come to the conclusions that you have given the information that we (not you, for we don't know what you've read) have seen. It's almost as if someone is playing a cruel joke on all of us by feeding a few one story, and a few others a different story. Just rying to explain our surprise at two such differing conclusions to what we all assume is based on the same info. It's like one group is coming up with the answer of '37' and the other group with '22' and both wondering how the other arrived at their conclusion. Not trying to fight with you or attack you, just very surprised/confused by your conclusion. WE/I just don't get it. I think it's all based on our differing perceptions of what we "think" has been presented as the evidence so far. Some seem to think Z was still following Martin and some that Z was headed back to or had returned to his truck. This seems to be a major point of disagreement. Sorry for long paragraph, typing on tablet which doesn't seem to work well on this forum for some reason.2 points

To believe this murder is okay, you need to believe that Martin had no right to "stand his ground", and you need to believe that Zimmerman had no responsibility for his reckless actions that put him in the situation he was in. It was erroneously report that the cops investigated and didn't want to arrest Zimmerman until the haters got involved. It has since been proven that wasn't true; the lead detectives ask the DA for an arrest warrant after they interviewed Zimmer and the DA refused. Would the DA have refused if that had been a rich white kid? I don't know, but I know the Governor and the State Attorney General reviewed his decision and decided to bench him and send someone else in. Do I think race played in part in Zimmermans reckless conduct? I don't know. Did he think because the kid was black he didn't belong there? Would he have chased down the child of one of the local white families? I doubt it. I know that Zimmerman made a real bad choice in getting out of his truck and running that kid down. I believe that Martin was probably scared and for all we know may have seen the gun and was fighting for his life. Zimmerman caused that, and the fact that he caused a kid to attack him doesn't mean he gets a free pass to kill him. He set everything in motion; Martin was an innocent kid walking down the street minding his own business, and because Zimmerman intervened he is dead. Will justice be done at trial? I don't know, but lets get on with it. Will Zimmerman win a civil suit against NBC? I don't know but if he does Martins family will take every penny of it.2 points

Tomorrow is the anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor. I only bring this up as I would like to honor my uncle "Thomas Lowery" who served on the submarine USS Sunfish during WWII and passed away last summer. My uncle Tommy whom raised me, was aboard the Sunfish that fateful day. When the Japanese attacked, the Sunfish (whom was entering the harbor) submerged in the shallow water and turned seaward in search of the Japanese fleet. The Sunfish engaged the Jap fleet and when running out of torpedoes, surfaced and engaged the enemy with a 50 cal machine gun and what my uncle called a 3" inch deck gun. A funny story he told me was when a Soviet Destroyer put up the Japanese flag and cruised right on into Tokyo Bay. The Sunfish went to Tokyo to attack the Jap fleet. Well, they encountered the russian cruiser flying the jap flag and sent two "fish" into the russian ship. Needless to say Ivan got pissed and wanted us to pay for the ship they lost. Such is war my friend!!! I found that story pretty funny! I miss my uncle dearly, but would like to honor ALL the veterans buried in the choppy waters of the South Pacific! Bless you all!
Zimmerman didn't cower in his truck, so obviously he's at fault for Martin violently attacking him. Because if Zimmerman had stayed in his truck, Martin would not have attacked him & thus would still be alive. That is the crux of the "Zimmerman is guilty" arguement is that correct? Good luck Zman! Dave S
Nope, never thought of that. GZ lost sight of and stopped following TM while he was still on the line with 911. What happened in the next few seconds, no one knows except GZ and TM... and one of them is pulling a Duke Bush and will never tell. What we do know is that GZ's face and head was bloody, while TM had no injuries to indicate an attack from GZ. We also know that TM was high at the time of death. The lack of injuries on TM is the major reason why charges were not filled by officers or the DA.
The medical examiner found two injuries on Martin’s body: the fatal gunshot wound on his chest and broken skin on his knuckles, according to WFTV. http://articles.nyda...uckles-injuries
TM was a thug. This is not speculation and is evidenced by his Facebook posts, being expelled from school after being caught with burglary tools and a bag of jewelry, suspended for marking gang graffiti at school and his final suspension of being caught with weed and a bong. Maybe he would still be alive if his parents paid attention to the warning signs. And I hate for the way this will sound, but we all know that TM would have ended up dead following the path he was on anyways. His thug life death came a bit early (how early, who knows?) from GZ instead of a defensive homeowner or another thug.1 point
Dave I think you are leaving out a couple of critical things that can have a big impact on who was really at fault in Martin's death... 1. Zimmerman did nothing illegal, as far as I can tell, in initially following Martin no matter what the 911 operator told him to do or not do and Zimmerman had as much right to "be there" as anyone else. 2. And this is where things seem most unclear, it appears that Zimmerman had stopped following Martin and was either headed back to his vehicle or even getting into his vehicle and it was then that Martin, according to some, began the physical altercation. Looking at it from the Martin's side...if Zimmerman really was "disengaging" then any "threat" Martin might have felt, legitimately or otherwise, was gone and he should also have disengaged just like any of us who feel threatened, pull our weapon and the bad guy runs away. We don't have the right to shoot at that point and Martin didn't have to right to start pounding on Zimmerman. Now, I'll admit...I'm going from memory here so if could be I have some of the "facts" wrong. Also, I think there will be a lot of facts to come out that we simply don't have. All I'm sure of right now is that I haven't seen enough verifiable facts to cause me to believe that Zimmerman is guilty of anything other than trying to protect his neighborhood.
Well, I may have forgotten some too. All I know is, someone took an a$$ whoop'n and someone got shot. I have my own opinions as well as you. I do however feel for Zman, as TM parents are going to pursue him relentlessly in civil court. Zman will die if sent to prison. I feel for all involved. I, me alone, personaly feel this whole thing could have been prevented had Zman stayed in his truck and waited on the police. I can't wait for the trial!!! Dave S1 point

I don't care how this situation turns out. The end results won't make me feel like a winner or loser.
I have no animus towards LEOs, but I think this incident and some of the reasons defending such action are a pant load. Does anyone have any statistics on murders of LEOs at a traffic stop where the perpetrator had shown the officer their HCP and told the officer they had a gun? I have never seen any, but I would imagine if they existed it would be incredibly low if not next to nothing. Using the argument that people flip out at anytime doesn't wash either. At the end of the encounter, the officer hands the weapon and mag back to the owner. Maybe the owner is pissed they just got a speeding ticket and flip out once they get their handgun back. How long does it take to pop in a mag, rack the slide, and go to work? Not very long. So even though they were entirely up front about being armed, they were a threat initially, but are no longer? That really does't jive with me. I wouldn't get really upset over this incident, but I also wouldn't kiss the officer's butt because he was polite and couteous. I have absolutely no law enforcement experience, but in my mind the officer responding to the driver like, "Thank you for having your permit ready and telling me you armed. For everyone's safety, I would like you to keep you hands visible on the steering wheel while we are talking." would have been much more professional.
You would have to talk to the Officer to find out why he disarmed the OP, could be many things. But you are trained to stay alive. You are trained to act on what you see. Does the cop disarm everyone, or did he see something that caused that reaction? We don’t know, but the OP says he acted professionally and he wasn’t upset about it. To say people don’t shoot cops on traffic stops is ridiculous. To say the fact that you bought your privilege from the state makes it some kind of right that makes you less of a threat to a Police Officer is even ,more ridiculous. I’m not going to post the links because I don’t want to validate them, but search Google. Florida has a link that lists people that were killed in their state by permit holders. There is a “Study†that claims through news articles they found 7 Police Officers and 41 civilians killed by permit holders. You can find it yourself and see if it is creditable. I can’t find the story now, but it hasn’t been that long ago a cop had a permit holder on a traffic stop. After talking to him, he determined the guy might be drunk and tried to disarm him. They got in a struggle over the gun and the suspect shot him. He then stood over him and finished him off. Had he disarmed him when he first saw the gun, he might be alive today… who knows. We don’t have to make up stories or even look hard to find cases where permit holders shot cops, innocent citizens and even family members. It’s easy to ask for statistics on something you know doesn’t exist. Of course there aren’t statistics on permit holders that shoot cops. When you murder a cop or anyone else, no one generally cares if you had a permit or not. I really don’t want anyone adding that to a reporting form either. I don’t want to see it abused by the press the way it would be. I don’t pretend to be living at the foot of the cross and having a permit doesn’t make it so. Thank God our founding Fathers never intended anything in the Constitution to get a cop doing his job killed. If Jefferson or Franklin were out here dealing with what our cops deal with, they would be disarming people when they saw the need also.1 point
-
You and many people jump to assumptions about this situation. None of us where there except the OP and none of us know what the circumstances where in this interaction at all that is a fact. The Monday morning quarterback comment is for people who want to tell others how do their job after the fact. If you can do it better then get hired and do it. Just having a HCP doesn't make you a saint or even a good person believe me I've seen some people who should be in prison and gang members with a HCP. While at the same time I've known several good people and even family members that are HCP holders. I even have one myself. If you are disarmed and don't believe there was a justification then complain. But don't jump to conclusions about someone else's situation unless you where there. Now in my experience I have never disarmed a legally armed HCP holder. I give them credit due to my experience and interactions with the many I have encoutered. I don't want to disarm them just like I wouldn't want to be disarmed. But if in a situation I have articulable facts to explain I may have been in reasonable fear to disarm the person during our encounter it will be done. Hopefully that never has to happen but if it does I will do what I am legally allowed to do to ensure the safety of myself and the other person and conduct the business at hand. Now I don't assume automatically HCP holders are threats due to that fact alone they are treated like anyone else I encounter and will continue to do so unless they make the situation change.1 point

I took my family to Maui this past summer for a family vacation, it was our 10 year aniversary. We brought along our 3 sons, an 8 year old, 7 year old and a 3 year old. Just for the purpose of Pearl Harbor, we spent an extra $1K to stay an extra day just to fly over to Oahu so we could share the the memorial experience with the boys. That was our 2nd time seeing it, and a first for the kids. It is such a so surreal place, and very somber place. My boys were perfect gentlemen, very quiet, and they fully understood what had happened and what that place means. The smell and sight of the diesel still seeping up is unblievable. I honor all of the men who died in the pearl harbor attack, and for ones that are still entomed there. They are the American people's liberty teeth and keystone under independence … from the hour the Pilgrims landed to the present day , events, occurrences and tendencies prove that to ensure peace security and happiness, the rifle and pistol are equally indispensable … the very atmosphere of firearms anywhere restrains evil interference — they deserve a place of honor with all that's good." Cop stops a beautiful blond driving a Corvette for speeding. He approaches and asks for her license and registration. When he asks who the car belongs she to, she tells him it belonged to the old couple that lived next door to her, but she killed them. Yep, didn’t like them; killed them both. The cop calls for backup and a Command Officer. The Command Officer arrives and talks to the woman. He asks why she killed the people that own the car. At some point in a guy's life... it comes down to this. Four guys have been going to the same fishing trip for many years. Two days before the group is to leave, Ron's wife puts her foot down and tells him he isn't going. Ron's mates are very upset that he can't go, but what can they do. Two days later the three get to the camping site only to find Ron sitting there with a tent set up,firewood gathered, and dinner cooking on the fire. "Dang Ron, how long you been here, and how did you talk your missus into letting you go?" "Well, I've been here since yesterday evening. I was sitting in my chair and my wife came up behind me and put her hands over my eyes and said, "Guess who?" I pulled her hands off, and she was wearing a brand new see through nightie. She took my hand and pulled me to our bedroom. The room had candles and rose petals all over. On the bed she had handcuffs, and ropes! She told me to tie and cuff her to the bed, and I did. And then she said, "Do whatever you want." So, Here I am. Who wants a beer? __________________1 point

We have read about it dozens of times on here where a HCP holder does something stupid. And as an officer if they can do something to prevent injuries to anyone it is a good thing. Think about it. A HCP holder flips out and pulls his gun on the officer. The officer responds and kills the HCP holder. Who won? No one because one man lost his life and another has to live with taking that life for the rest of his life. The families of both will suffer for the rest of their lives. The officer and department will get sued. Especially if the officer knew and did not disarm the HCP holder. I know it would weigh heavily on me if I did not do everything in my power to prevent conflict. Dolomite1 point
Sounds like he was professinal. That said, he has no reason, nor right to disarm anyone who is in legal possession of a handgun with an HCP.
TN law gives him the right, and the reason is his call. - OS1 point

anyone who gets sucked into road rage to this point is flat out an idiot and probably not mentally stable. Dick measuring contests such as these rarely have a winner.1 point
