That article was aggravating to read. If the author wants to live in the past then he's got that to do. Handguns have come a long way. I don't start my car with a crank lever. Let's put this VERY simply... There are MANY things that could go wrong without one in the chamber. - That quarter of a second it takes to chamber a round (that's very generously fast) can without a doubt easily be a matter of life or death. - There is a chance of a failure to feed (when you could already have a good round already in the chamber ready to go). - There is a chance a foreign object may be introduced to the chamber (shirt, flesh, a cat) causing malfunction or a jam. - There is a chance you may become off balance in responding to a threat and unable to chamber a round. - There is a chance that you might need your support hand to keep your threat at a distance/keep your balance/catch yourself/manipulate objects. - There may not be enough room to rack the slide when tackled and wrestling on the ground There is ONE thing that could go wrong with carrying one in the chamber. - A negligent discharge. I don't know about you, but the reason I carry is to be ready for the worst imaginable situation (aka use of deadly force) and I think any reasonable person would want EVERY single advantage available no matter how small.3 points

Being a police officer requires good judgment. Writing a $2500 ticket for a 3 yr old doing something he didn't know was wrong, was very bad judgment. Seniority doesn't mean you get to coast and do what you want.3 points
A revolver doesn't have enough rounds for me to consider carrying one. It would use fine motor skills to chamber a revolver. I carry an XD as well. It cracks me up that so many 1911 guys believe in having it cocked with the safety on while looking down on an XD in condition 3. In a defensive situation, I'll have mine ready to fire before the 1911 guy will.
I'll bet there are more than a few guys who would take you up on this challenge.... not me as I carry Glocks or something without a manual safety. I am not judging or doubting your personal ability but from my experience a safety comes off a lot quicker than racking a slide and can be done easily with one hand.2 points

I have been making fires for heat for almost 20yrs now and this blew me away. I have had "my" way of getting what I thought was a hot fire for the fireplace/woodstove. I was at a friends a couple of weeks ago and he had a fire going that was unbearable hot until about 5ft away. He said he has had to open windows when he makes this fire because the house gets to hot inside. He showed me how to make it and today I figured I would give it a shot. It worked and It has been going for 3 hours now and I have done nothing to it, partial because the one time I did I singed my hair off before I even reached in the fireplace. It has raised the temp in the house 15 degrees and now have to open the windows. I can't believe I had never heard of this before.
So, from what I read in that article, our elected officials don't think I am being "reasonable" because I strongly believe that I have a right to keep an item secured in my vehicle regardless of where it is parked. When the debate starts off like that, you know it's not going to bode well for gun owners.
Our elected officials don't know what to think. Took a doe on Thanksgiving morning. Was hunting out of state in West Virginia on family property that's overrun with does. I would not normally take a yearling or what appears to possibly be a yearling on the QDMA property that I hunt in Tennessee. For a long time, I had myself fooled into believing that C3 carry was safer. Since we just had Thanksgiving, I'm adding to my list that I'm thankful for people who cared enough about me to show me why I was wrong. Every time, without fail, that I have asked a qualified instructor how to carry a firearm, 100% have said, "Condition 1". BTW, can't help but notice that ole Daryl carries that crossbow in C1.....1 point

I wouldn't recommend carrying without one ready to fire unless you have done extensive drills with your firearm. I mean so many it becomes pure muscule memory because when it hits the fan and you lose your fine motor skills it could be deadly.1 point

I made good choices starting about 30 years ago when my grades in school started really counting toward something. I made good choices about 23 years ago when I had to choose between going to college and applying myself or going out f'ing around with my slacker friends. I've continued making good, sometimes difficult decisions ever since then in my career. I've made some decisions that really sucked to endure and cope with but eventually put me in better a better place, employment wise. I've also had the rug pulled out from under me and had to work a less than appealing job or two in order to make sure my bills were paid and my family was taken care of. What I'm getting at is a lot of people working retail had a decision to make somewhere along the line. And while I am not advocating being completely unsympathetic to a person's plight (there but by the grace of God go I) I am saying that there are essentially two groups of people in retail: (1.) those who chose the profession willfully and (2.) those who are just thankful they have a job. The first should understand that with a job in retail comes the tireless task of bending to the consumer's will which sometimes means working on days you'd rather be at home with your family. For the second, those folks aren't likely going to complain because they're doing what they have to do in order to make ends meet. And if they are complaining, then maybe they should have made different choices along the way. So am I going shopping on Thanksgiving night? Probably so. Do I think it's a war on Thanksgiving? No. I'll be shopping with my family and it gets us in the holiday spirit.1 point
-
Lets see where this goes: I sometimes see things differently than most, just to have a different point of view, maybe to stir it up. For one, I agree its a shame that working retailers and working food servers must work on a beloved holiday, I sympathize with those. However, I am not so sure its the greedy companies to blame, but the stock holders who are actually to blame. We stock holders, sometimes called 401K holders of mutal funds, demand and expect a certain rate of return in order for us to have a comfortable lifestyle. We demand these public traded companies not only turn an expected profit, but we want the shares of stock to rise in value. We stock/mutal funds holders do not care how they do it, as long as it is legal. So my argument, who is to blame, the retailers, or us!1 point
I have been following this for a bit and have decided to add my quarter (penny thought plus inflation). My right to have my tools is a personal right guaranteed in the constitution. A business owners right to deny my rights does not trump my rights. A business owner cannot block a person from entry based on their race or other qualifiers, do why should they be able to block me entry based in my right to bear arms. What's worse is the fight to tell me what is in my car, and why? It is in my car, not yours. Unless it comes out and into play in the commission of a felony what business is it of yours? None in my opinion. Either you support the constitution in its entirety or you don't. Business owners that do not support the second amendment in its entirety receive no sympathy from me when their rights are violated or when they find themselves disarmed and then confronted by those with nefarious intent. The basic concept of the 2A is the ability to have weapons available to citizens to defend themselves. I see now I was rather long winded. I am just tired of folks trying to infringe on my rights, the ones written into the constitution, based on flawed logic that then place me at a disadvantage when my life is at risk. My rights do not trump yours and vice versa. Leave me alone about what is in my pants and I will leave you alone about what is in yours.
You have no right to be in a private business at all. A private business owner can ask you to leave and if you refuse he can call the Police and have you removed. He doesn’t have to give the cops a reason either. Being black (race) isn’t against the law; carrying a loaded gun is a crime in this state. Not only is it a crime, but civil law allows for the business owner to be sued if someone is shot by you while you are carrying your gun on his property. That is a very heavy burden you want a business owner to accept on your behalf. “Other qualifiersâ€, you mean like saying that you must wear a shirt and shoes, and you can’t enter with a cigarette hanging out of your mouth? What if you are carrying a five gallon can of gasoline? All those things are legal, but a business owner doesn’t have to allow those or anything else he doesn’t like including guns. We all believe that we should have a right to bear arms. But to believe that we actually have that right is preposterous. The state on Tennessee openly acknowledges that you have a right to own a gun, but you do not have a right to carry one; that is a crime. The Supreme Court of the United States is the legal interpreter of the Constitution and they agree with that. The fact that you or I have bought the privilege of an HCP doesn’t make it a right and doesn’t allow us to drive it down the throat of a business owner and call it a right. If my interpreting this (along with things like the smoking ban) as a thug government is flawed logic…. Then I’m guilty.1 point

Well, for not being racist, he plays racial politics very well. For someone who isn't a socialist, he has a lot of rather odd friends and associations. For someone who just has bad policies, he has a remarkable track record of policies and decisions that aren't just bad, but are the worst possible choice, in a wide variety of fields; foreign policy, economy, military, and constitutional law. You may be hearing something different - people hear what they want to hear, see what they expect to see - but I have no doubt the people saying something else are sincere.1 point

"Poke" not "polk". Pokeweed. You pick a "mess" of it. Yes, berries and roots are toxic, but leaves can be eaten even after berries form, but small leaves in spring are best. I ate a ton of it growing up, and matter of fact picked a small mess along the 3rd Creek greenway about three years ago and ate it for old time's sake. And yep, boil for a bit, drain, change water boil some more, adding pork fat is traditional. Not bad, damn good if you're really hungry. If it were harmful to eat it this way, half the South would have died in the 30s. - OS1 point
I think I have found some logic for the hatred of the wealthy. First of all the wealthy people are the ones who have in most cases worked hard to get what they have and many are in a position to hire people. Some have stuggled and end up owning their own business. These are the evil people who would hire individuals and want them to work for them. How dare they when I can vote for the liberals who will give me a government handout. Tax those people so they can't afford to pay me a salary an thus jeopordize my entitlements.
My pastor always poses the "rich" issue this way - If you had $1,000,000, would you consider yourself to be rich? What if you had $10,000,000? Would you be rich? If you had $10,000,000 and Jack had $175,000,000, would you consider yourself to be rich? Most people would not, they make that assessment relative to what others have. This gets into an envy mentality and that is why it is so easy to demonize "the rich", because many people consider anyone who has more than they do to be "rich". I am happy with myself and what I have, I am not jealous of other people. They worked for what they have, I worked for what I have. Many people would consider me to be "rich", while many people would not. It's all relative, mostly based on perception.1 point

A little joke to lighten things up: Cell Phone Etiquette After a very busy day, Peggy settled down in her seat and closed her eyes as the train departed Manhattan for the 'burbs. As the train rolled out of the station, one last passenger jumped on the train and got the last seat — right next to Peggy. Naturally, he pulled out his cell phone and started talking in a loud voice. "Hi sweetheart, it's Eric! ... I'm on the train — yes, I know it's the six thirty and not the four thirty, but I had a long meeting ... No, honey, not with that floozie frrom the accounts office, with the boss. No sweetheart, you're the only one in my life — yes, I'm sure, cross my heart," etc., etc. It was nauseating. And no matter how much Peggy glared at him, cleared her throat, or otherwise tried to express her disapproval over his rudeness, he completely ignored her. Fifteen minutes later, she got an idea. She leaned in close to him and said in her most sensual, pouty voice aimed right at his phone: "Hey, Eric, sweetie! Turn off that stupid phone and come back to bed!" Eric doesn't use his cell phone in public any longer.1 point
