2. Thanksgiving is a time to be thankful for family and God's blessing. I always try to be thankful on the other 364 days in the year too. Sometimes i have trouble and whine a bit; but im tryin to quit. All that bein said; ive worked every "holiday" or "family event" there is; except Christmas; and i may have worked one Christmas day (...cant remember....). Most of the time it wuz away from home. My employer payed me for everyone of them. For that i am thankful. I know what it means to be away from home and family on special days. My job required it; and that's what i did. All that is part of bein an adult. As Mike said above, it's another day of the week. Celebrate when you are off. Lots of people will be workin on Thanksgiving. They keep the water, electricity, tv, and internet on. They will move the freight by rail, truck, air, and sea. They keep you safe from monsters both at home and abroad. If ya get sick, they will care for you. The list goes on and on. The point is that in this country, we all need to be thankful. We may not like everything thats goin on; but most everyone of us has more than they need to eat, a place to live, a job to go to (....some or most...), and no one is commin to kick our door down and take what they want. More than that, we are armed. I say: "....Happy Thanksgiving to all. It dont matter when ya celebrate it...!! We are all very blessed!!!....". leroy

 6. It all comes down to this: a gun free zone is a gun free zone, and we all know that a criminal or mentally unstable person isn't going to abide by the law. I can understand anti-gun people calling for a gun-free zone, but gun proponents that are citing private property rights wanting gun free zones in their parking lots are borderline hypocrites. If guns on your property are bad, then why aren't they so bad everywhere else? I could understand the stance if we were fighting for "Right to Carry Inside the Workplace," but we're just asking to be able to store a gun in a locked car.

 7. I see that some on this thread seem to have the opinion that government control over rights is ok in some cases and not in others. Seems like we all want to have it both ways. It has also become obvious to me that no minds are being changed on this thread, only arguments become more heated and devolve into quasi or outright personal attacks, and/or mis-perceived personal insults. I might add that this is not good even when/if it comes from a moderator. Think I will devote my time to other, more productive threads now.

 8. Of course I will admit that I would like to sell you a safe over Dicks or TSC but if not I will let you know the biggest difference over the two locks your are talking about. The lock on the Cannon is a basic electronic lock that is fairly dependable, We do alot of the service work for Cannon and they stand behind the lock for a certain amount of time and will send us out to repair or replace a defective lock, matter of fact just replaced one last week for a customer. The mechanical lock on the Stack on is a lower quality mechanical lock and not the same quality as the Cannon. Security wise the Cannon is the better safe and if the Cannon was the same price that would be my choice. Hope this helps with your decision. TSH

 9.
No one knows a slave.
Would that were a true statement. In my tenure in Mexico (only a few years ago) I met many that would by all accounts be termed slaves, serfs to the land and Masters that held complete thrall over them and their generations. Because the average American does not know any slaves does not mean there are none left in the world. Our State Constitution guarantees that each non criminal Citizen has the right to keep and bear arms for their defense, there are no restrictions as to location espoused by our founding documents. Our Supreme Court has ruled: "The right to keep arms, necessarily involves the right to purchase them, to keep them in a state of efficiency for use, and to purchase and provide ammunition suitable for such arms, and to keep them in repair. And clearly for this purpose, a man would have the right to carry them to and from his home, and no one could claim that the Legislature had the right to punish him for it, without violating this clause of the Constitution. Bearing arms for the common defense may well be held to be a political right, or for the protection and maintenance of such rights, intended to be guaranteed; but the right to keep them, with all that is implied fairly as an incident to this right, is a private individual right, guaranteed to the citizen, not the soldier." The "Government" in Tennessee is supposed to be the People, at least an extension of them. The Legislature (for good or ill) is charged in our Constitution with the power to "regulate the wearing of arms with a view to prevent crime". They have no power by the written word to control the keeping of them, that being an absolute Right guaranteed by Article 1 Section 26 of our Declaration of Rights. Shame on us that we have allowed Business interest to purchase our Legislature's duty and honor to keep our safety and pursuit of happiness at the forefront of their endeavor for silver, allowing it to stand. Those who are not parents can not understand the trepidation one who is feels for the safety of their children, and those who do not have grand children more especially can not begin to understand true fear at the ways of the world. Seeing that none but ourselves may be held accountable for the security and safety of each of us, the Government abdicating, as they have and must, the provision of protection, along with the Business owner who proves to care none for the life and safety of the general public when they garner sustenance from the fruits of having it either work at their places of business or show up to purchase goods there, require the individual to be solely responsible. It is the responsibility of those who are concerned to use their Constitutionally named responsibility under Article 1 Section 23 to "to instruct their representatives, and to apply to those invested with the powers of government for redress of grievances, or other proper purposes, by address or remonstrance." I find it my duty to push for this law, having two daughters that drive the roads in the 9th most dangerous municipality in the US, (Jackson, TN) with my grand babies in their car seats. Both are precluded the ability to have their legally owned weapons on hand in case they get stranded by a flat or car trouble of any type, simply because their employers fear them being able to keep the best tool for their protection locked in their personal property during their work hours. I refuse to give up this struggle.

 10.
I can fully agree with that. It does amuse me however than when I vote for the only candidates that actually have a platform that values individual libertyand states rights, I am told I am "wasting my vote" because I don't support either of the big two statist parties.
Yeah, I'm of the mindset of there being no such thing as a wasted vote, except the vote not cast. I think the only way to get back some seblance of control is to work within the system to get the two parties back to making this country great. 10 percent of the voting population can do this by never allowing an incumbent to be reelected, and swinging the vote to the opposing party of corrupt career politicians. One election cycle of incumbent firing followed by another might get them to actually work after getting elected.

When the emergency release popped the entire pot of beans shot out of the approx. 3/8" hole and formed a green stalactite on the ceiling. I think they are much safer now.

 15. No, the bolts aren't blackened, I'm just a bad photographer. The Archangel target stock is the best stock for the money in my opinion. Yeah you can buy better stocks for a lot of money, but why do that? If you want a really accurate .22 just buy an Anschutz and be done with it. My goal in 10/22s these days is to keep the cost within reasonable rates, yet still explore new things in shooting (i.e. long range rimfire). I've had $300.00 10/22 barrels in fancy wooden stocks chambered for specific ammo using 300.00+ scopes. And I could still shoot as accurately or maybe better as that 10/22 did with a CZ 452 - yes it is maddening. And again, Yes, I did spend 350 clams on that toggle receiver but that was cheaper than buying a Biathlon rifle and I wanted to see how those systems work without going to the Winter Olympics and kissing someone's xxx to look at their rifle or spending the same amount of money as I would on a car just to have a Biathlon style toggle system. My ideal "conventional "10/22s" - yes, you have to have two: 1) Running Boar Green Mountain (120.00) barrel in a Tapco tacticool stock (89.00) a vertical foregrip (20.00) and some type of good optic for faster shooting, including moving targets. 2) Long barrel, either Green Mountain 28" or Urban Rifle Supply 29" (159.00), Archangel target stock (90.00), with good optic/scope for off-hand or bag shooting. In either case if you wanted to upgrade accuracy you could send your bolts and even these aftermarket barrels and have them tuned by Randy at CPC or Que. Will they then be Olympic grade rifles - no, not even Kidd or Volquartsens are used in the Olympics. If you want a real .22 rifle that will make you the envy of all the range ninjas then I suggest one of these: http://www.champchoi...schutz-402.aspx I've heard many times that the fellas at Champions Choice are top notch and they are right here in TN. You might want to try these also: http://www.champchoi...erkbau-404.aspx or maybe one of these: http://www.champchoi...alther-405.aspx However, in the .22 game no matter how much you spend on a 10/22 it will not put you in the just linked class of rifles for accuracy in the games in which they are played. 20. The bonuses make sense....about 15 years ago I was part (a small part) of shutting down the Singer Furniture Company (yes, that Singer; part of Singer Sewing Company)...it takes a lot of time and work and you absolutely want people who know what's going on to be there as long as possible (which isn't easy given that people know they are working themselves out of a job). If you don't have those people to see that things are done right the only people you'll really end up screwing is the people that Hostess stills owes money too because done the wrong way, buildings and equipment (not so much intellectual property) can become worthless junk. Sad time for those employees now out of work but they brought it on themselves, either directly or indirectly.

 22.
The problem when you compromise like that, Robert, is it just places a burden, or another restriction on an established business that should have no reason to be guaranteeing your safety. Compromises usually end up in bad precedence for future lawmaking. That's what has gotten us in the mess we are in.
I was being a little jovial again....I don't really want or actually suggest such a compromise. On the other hand, I can't say I'd feel sorry for the businesses if, by denying me the opportunity to have the best tool available for my own defense, they had to step in and provide the protection for me. I suppose one of the things that bother me most about the cries of FedEx, Nissan, Bridgestone and their ilk is that they want it both ways...they deny their employees/customers the best tool available for providing for their own protection, especially during their commute, while concurrently refusing to take any responsibility for the safety of their employees/customers. It seems to me to be a rather despicable position for them to take.

 28.
There are several states that have the law and it is not unconstitutional. This struggle of property over individual rights is bogus, but it keeps coming up. As long as it is argued for nothing, it will only be a detractor to a right. No one that I know of wants to trample on another's rights, but it is up to the individual to guarantee his/her own rights. That includes self protection and could easily be on another's property. The property rules could easily be too vague to allow from one to another and never give any satisfaction to anyone if property was the only factor. It may never be solved and our right to self protection will fade and our guns will be taken. Is that what anyone wants? Taking a way of self protection to an employer's property and storing it is reasonable. It doesn't infringe on anyone else's right. There is a right to safe passage from one state to another with firearms. Where is the difference in storing a firearm in a trunk while at work?
I'd be completely in favor of an employer or the places a person shops chose to deny their employees/customers the right to have a firearm in their vehicle if the State would just require that those stores and employers provide well-trained armed security during the employees/customers transportation to/from their locations and while the employee/customer was at their location - I think that would be a fair compromise! If providing armed security is "too much" of an inconvenience then just have the state hold every employer and business 100% liable for the safety of their employees/customers both while they are on the employers/business's property and their commute to/from...an employee gets killed during a car-jacking on his way to work and his employer doesn't allow him to keep a firearm in his vehicle; it could be an automatic $10M payout to the dead employee's family. I wonder what Nissan or FedEx would think about that proposition???

 36. This week many of us are bound to be traveling for the holiday and spending time with family and friends. I wanted to go ahead and wish everyone here a very Happy Thanksgiving and safe travels! For those of you who are currently off of American soil, serving our country, please be safe and enjoy the holiday as best you can knowing that we're thinking of you back here in the States. I realize that for the majority of us here on TGO, the recent election did not go exactly as we had hoped it would and we are gravely concerned about the future of our nation. There are some here who are without a job, and we likely all know someone who has either lost their employment or otherwise taken a hit because of the economy. Several of us this year have lost loved ones or are presently watching someone close to us writing what may be the final pages of their life's story. But despite all of those bad things, I take comfort in knowing that we have much still to be thankful for. If for no other reason than simply the fact that we still live as free men and women in what Alexis de Tocqueville referred to as this Great Experiment. Enjoy the week ahead!

You fire on Fort Campbell and declare independence from U.S. Entire U.S. military might legally invades Tennessee. Still sound like a good deal? Fact is, like it or not, states are no longer capable of existing as separate entities.
To be blunt (which is a problem for me); I find it a bit appalling that there are people who actually do think secession is either a good idea or even possible. I'm also a bit sad that such talk is even allowed to go on here. But to answer the above question; no, it doesn't sound like a good idea but as is usually the case, people tend to want to deal with the "romance" of an issue and not the reality of it...it sounds very manly/tough/patriotic/freedom-loving/independent to talk about secession (which is really just a substitute for revolution) but dealing with the harsh realities of what would happen isn't so romantic.

And as far as I was aware once convicted of a crime, even domestic violence, you ARE a criminal. Now maybe we live on two worlds but in my world someone who has been convicted or pleads guilty to a crime is a criminal. Dolomite
12 years ago I pled guilty to driving on a suspended/revoked license and also to a charge of "failure to appear" as I missed a court date and didn't realize it was that big of a deal. Spent 3 days locked up for that one. It is my understanding that "Failure to Appear" is a class A misdemeanor. Am I a criminal? I pled guilty to a criminal charge. Your stance doesn't allow for nuance, or for the fact that sometimes folks do stupid crap in their youth and can and do learn from it. Misdemeanor crimes are misdemeanors for a reason. They are minor in nature and not viewed to be so serious as to warrant lifelong consequences. I would offer that "criminal" more aptly describes someone who habitually engages in illegal acts, probably without signs of remorse. I would not necessarily say it describes someone who has pled guilty or been convicted of a crime or crimes based upon a single act or someone who has shown that they have learned from past behavior and lives life in accordance with the law.

 47. I refuse to support this until the state of Tennessee recognizes the right to bear arms. To say that the state won’t recognize your right but a business must is just a thug government. The government thinks they have the right to outlaw carrying loaded guns in your car for the safety of the public, but a business can’t come to the same conclusion for the safety of their employees? What a load of crap; this bill stinks and doesn’t deserve the support of gun owners, and won’t get the support of citizens.

In fact, the .45 ACP is one of the easiest handgun rounds to stop with body armor. And on that note, consider how much technology goes into body armor so it will catch a handgun round. Do you really think some guy's puffy jacket and sweatshirt will stop a bullet? With all due respect to my fellow firearms enthusiasts, there's nothing magical about a .45 ACP nor is there anything magical about your winter coat to make it capable of stopping a 9mm a round (or any handgun round for that matter). The issue with JHP rounds is that they can clog and not expand as much. I've personally attended test shoots where rounds are fired through various materials, including heavy clothing. I never saw a round clog so much on heavy clothing that it didn't expand a significant amount. The worst for clogging a hollowpoint bullet is drywall or plywood. In those cases, you just end up with the equivalent of a FMJ bullet.
