spanking is hiting. And most of you believe in it because you were hit or spanked. You are hitting someone who has a brain that is not yet developed fully and it doesn't until about age 20 or so.
So discipline shouldn't be enforced on anyone until they're 20 or so? That may be the most asinine thing I've ever read.3 points

Realistically those that are going to loot are not going to travel outside of their own neighborhoods to do so. Looters can't loot unless they are on foot and they are not going to walk far. They are going to rob the liquor stores, cash advance places, pawn shops and the errant commuter in their own neighborhoods. As long as you let them do what they are going to do in their own neighborhood they will not venture out. I have zero worries about them coming to my house to loot. But in the event they do venture out, and into my neighborhood, they will no loot my belongings or my neighbor's. Dolomite2 points

I am amazed with some of the responses here. I know it is naive to hope that gun owners want to raise the next generation to be responsible, yet I see many responses that state how they prefer to sit and reason with a child that has not sense of reason or logic at that age. I have to ask, do you folks even have children? If you do, are you raising them, or do you drop them off at the baby sitter, grandparents, daycare all day? To the OP, if it were me, I would keep my nose out of it. I would find a way to support myself, and my girlfriend, I would move out of my grandparent's house and then avoid contact with my white trash family. If that sounds harsh to anyone, let me explain a few things... I am the oldest of six. I was beaten on a daily basis until I was 17 and I finally swung back. I have been on my own since that day. I have slept in gutters. I am currently a parent of a well behaved child that scores well on tests, socializes well and is considered a model student. I have cut all ties with my family. I have three sisters. None of them have custody their children. One is a drunk, one is a meth head and the other eats pills like M&Ms. I have two brothers. Neither of them have custody of their children. One is a homeless drug addict and the other one slings a hammer long enough to get money for his next high. I am the only sibling of the six to have a healthy home. I couldn't do that if I spent all my time worrying about how they live their lives. I have a good job. In this economy, it might even be considered a great job. I have a good wife. And as I mentioned I have a great daughter. And believe it or not, when she misbehaves, she gets spanked. Or as we call it in our home, 'Whupped.' I understand that might be a foreign concept to some folks here, but I have a feeling that there are more than a few like minded folks here. After all, this site isn't about growing alfalfa sprouts and driving a Prius, nor is it about how best to get a government check while watching Springer all day.2 points
Funny how the liberal media and democrat politicians screamed about how Bush and FEMA were incompetent and killed blacks in New Orleans after Katrina and you don't hear much about how Obama and FEMA being usless in aiding the survivors of Sandy. As far as riots go, I really think there are many, not just blacks Americans but many hard core leftest in politics and the media who really want a rebellion if Romney wins. I've said before that many hard core liberals hate conservatives including republicans, libertarians and tea partyers more than they hate Bin Ladin or the Taliban or Al Quada, some I believe actually sympathize with Islamic terrorists but we are their most hated enemy. I think about the old saying, "careful what you ask for, you just may get it", I wonder how long into a nationwide mass riot/rebellion, caos, lawlessness, hunger and killings, untill they start begging for an end to it.1 point
If you're for limited government, why did you ever vote for a democrat...
Because at the township / county level, at least years ago in Indiana, many of the local republicans were well entrenched incumbents who couldn't even spell conservative. A lot of great young candidates were able to run under the local democratic party in an effort to unseat them. They mostly failed due to lack of money to campaign with. But, they had good, community instead of govt. based approaches to our problems. I don't care which party a candidate belongs to, I care about their ideas and policies. Voting solely based on party just doesn't make sense to me.1 point

It's a very well made CZ75 clone without the finer finish or gloss, this pistol is also made in Turkey and is a good value purchase. I've friend's who own some of these who love them, if a good enough deal came around I might go for one myself. Yeah but it seems the OP has gotten probably the best advice on the subject that he's going to and the topic has apparently morphed into a general debate on the merits of spankings in general. If my post is off topic it's certainly not the first one of the thread to be. Oh and for the record my first swat on the butt was probably around the same age, about two-three years old. However my parents never left any marks or bruises wether it be a bare handed swat a belt or a hairbrush. Sounds like OP might be seeing something else all together.1 point

So lets say that you want to sell gun oil as a sideline to your motor oil product. Roughly a 55gal of motor oil can be had for 700.00, but you can get cheaper as quantity goes up. but let's just say 55 gal for 700. You throw a little of this and that which may add 100.00 to the "secret" oil formula. Then you have to package and market it. Let's say you sell it in 2oz bottles, then that over 55 gal now with some secret additives gives you 3500 bottles of oil. Then at $5.00 bucks per 2 oz you make a tidy profit by calling your relatively generic lube "GUN LUBE." I may be cynical but somehow I doubt anyone is sitting in some lab working for years concocting gun lube to be sold in small quantities. I suspect what works for one product probably works for similar products with a minor twist to make it look good to the gun buying public.1 point
Not to mention they have accuracy issues that are well documented and that AWFUL AWFUL factory trigger. Sent from my SGH-I747 using Tapatalk 2
The M&P 9 was the least accurate of the bunch until S&W revised the barrel locking surfaces and corrected that problem. The M&P 45 was historically the most accurate of the bunch and rivaled cheap to mid-range 1911 platforms on that basis alone. Now that the M&P 9's locking surfaces are improved, the 9 is just as accurate if not more so than the rest of the family -- and likely any factory Glock you will pair it up against. This is well documented, as you put it. Further, we're talking about accuracy of 2-5" groups at 25yds back in the day instead of 1-3" groups now. It was absolutely still "minute of man" accurate and plenty much so to do the intended job. I've owned both, I love both, but you will find my M&P 9 with me more often than the Glock 19 now. The ergonomics are, for me, superior and like DaveTN I do prefer to support an American company whenever I can. There is a reason why the M&P series is gaining ground on Glock in law enforcement circles and it has nothing to do with seductive marketing or lucrative pricing. Glock has an extremely long history of excelling at both of those things for police departments and agency sales. The M&P is gaining ground because these agencies simply see it as being a better firearm for their needs, made in the USA. Glocks are great guns. You will never see me say that they aren't and you will find numerous instances of me recommending them to people right here on this forum. But the M&P is not some second-rate contender to the throne and to dismiss it as such because at one time a version cambered in a certain caliber was slightly less accurate than something from your favorite brand, or because the trigger doesn't have the same feeling to it that your favorite brand does, constitutes a pretty shallow argument against it or for the Glock. A better argument would simply be "I don't like the M&P... I like Glocks." As I said before, we're talking about two handguns that have each proven themselves to be more than adequate. At this point it's largely a matter of personal preference and neither you or I have any right to tell someone what they should prefer. That's up to the buyer. They should prefer a gun that they like, have confidence in, can shoot well, and will carry regularly.1 point
Enough people read alternative media for the word to get out.
Dan makes an excellent point here. I'm a news junkie and always have been. The more that is out there, the more i look at. Most everyone that has eyes to see has figured out that, for the most part, the "mainstream" (....alphabet media outlets on tv...) and the big city and syndicaed newspaper media are insufferable socialists who will shill for their pet beliefs. I never watch the "mainstream media" on tv. I do read some of their articles and opinion pieces. Most of my news comes from the blogs and Drudge over the net. My 23 year old pointed out to me the other day (....he goes to a local community college...) that he and all his friends get their "news" thru the blogs and social media. For the most part, they have figured out that the old time "big media" is lyin about everything or shilling for their favorite candidate or political operative. They are cynical and are, at heart, isolationist (....as far as foreign conflict is concerned...) libertarians. His speech on the media goes somethin like this: "....When the greatest generation wuz alive and voting for FDR, they were fed the "news" that the elites wanted them to hear. There wuz one funnel and one megaphone. That megaphone wuz the radio and the newspaper. Folks were also too busy makin a livin and tryin to eat to worry too much about much more than that, and they believed their leaders were tryin to do the right thing. Today there is a lot more prosperity (...despite this current crop of stupidity whe have in the whitehouse...) and there is more time to think and millions more ways to get information. The internet has made everyone a reporter and its almost impossible for some jackass like biden or nobama (....or any other political or public figure....) to go out and say somethin at one place and contradict it at another without some nerd catchin him in a lie and posting the original video. I (...he and me....) never believe anything that comes out of a mainstream reporter or politico's mouth until it has been verified several places....". I count all that cynicism a good thing. Ya cant lie anymore without gettin caught by someone; and that is exactly what will happen to nobama on this Bengazi thing....". Another fact is that we are polarized as a culture. On the one side, ya have the "gimme" generation who believe the union drivel and the demorat mantra of "...mo,mo,mo...". They prefer the mainstream media. On the other side, ya have the capitalists and the libertarians who actually believe that the Constitution means what it says, and who want government to quit interferin in their lives and encroaching on the liberties that they understand are guaranteed by the Constitution. This bunch believes nothin that the mainstream media and the "mo,mo,mo" bunch believes. They tend to look to the blogs for news. I say that when Jesus prophetically spoke to the people and said: "...There is nothing whispered in the ear in the innermost room of the house that will not be shouted from the rooftops..."; He was speaking speaking on several levels. The time for the terrestrial fullfillment of His pronouncement is here. People are listening more and more. They no longer trust their political operatives nor their pimps in the media. People are cynical and skeptical. They well should be. I say, keep listenin, this one aint over by a long shot. leroy1 point

I once lived in Chicago...there is much about the city I love but I'll never again be within the city limits or, for that matter, within the state of Illinois and it's because of their incredibly stupid anti-gun mindset and idiocy like this... "It is very important to us to tax guns because we know that guns are the sources of the incredible violence we have in our neighborhoods," said Preckwinkle at a news conference on Wednesday" Yeah...of course lady...it's the GUNS that are the problem; not the violent criminal human garbage who commit murders and other violent crimes...it can't possibly be the thugs, most of whom already have multiple felony convictions and, rather than rotting in jail, are out on the street free to commit even more crimes...no...it CAN'T be them!!! BJJ...if you have to ask, you can't afford it. Seriously though, the Glock vs 1911 is a silly argument. The Glock vs Hi-Point is not. Especially when your well being may be on the line. Not all martial arts are the same. Any martial art that lacks a ground training element is incomplete in my opinion. And many martial arts are sportive arts masquerading as self defense (I'm looking at you Tae Kwon Do) that could seriously get somebody hurt. I would make the same statement about many of the latest generation of BJJ schools that focus only on competing in tournaments.1 point
