That’s a pretty wild ride you took us on there. But there is a reason it won’t happen “States Rightsâ€. It’s the same reason the SCOTUS ruled you have the right to “Keep Arms†but not the right to “Bear Armsâ€. I have said it before and I will say it again… the SCOTUS (no matter who is on it) will not make a ruling that is unenforceable on the states. It’s the very reason that when they ruled you have the right to “Keep Arms†they didn’t rule you have the right to “Bear Armsâ€; they can’t. If the President or the Federal Government had all the power some of the “The government is out to get us†theorists think they have, and they truly wanted to disarm the public; they would have done it by now. It just won’t happen. The American people also won’t let the criminals south of us that call themselves a government sue us for anything. If they want paid they are going to have to get it from their ally cartels.2 points

I disagree. When I was stationed in 29 Palms, CA the law made it perfectly clear that your house is not your castle, and that if someone broke in threatening to kill you then you were expected to go as far as jump from a second story window to escape rather than use deadly force. Of course, the argument could be made that California law-makers are insane.2 points

I'm not sure why the media or even, in this case, the sheriff's office uses the phrase "stand your ground" other than ignorance or for hype. Either a person has a right to defend his life or he doesn't...either the shooter had just reason to believe his life was in danger or he didn't; I don't see how "stand your ground" even enters into that. I think most, although not all, sane people (pro or anti gun alike) acknowledge that a person has a basic right to defend himself and from this brief story, it seems as if this man had good reason to be in fear for his life...I expect no charges to be filed unless there is a lot more to the story that we currently have.2 points

Very good new song by Steve Lee. If any of you are not familiar with Steve, he's a Pro-2A singer/songwriter from Australia. He's got some good stuff on Youtube. "Who gave you the right?" **Note: There's no language in this that you wouldn't hear on the radio, but there are a couple of words that some very young listeners may find offensive. I'd consider it safe for work, but some may not.1 point

My newest, and possibly favorite, build of all time. Lower specs: Double Diamond Glock lower Standard PSA LPK Mil-spec buffer Spike's ST-2 Buffer springs: JP tuned and polished buffer spring (black), Spike's stainless steel buffer spring (green) Buffer spacer: 1" green nylon rod, machined by a friend to 31/32" and cut to length Magpul furniture: black and OD green Seekins Precision bolt catch, made from tool steel and melonite treated Kies anti-walk pins Upper specs: JSE Surplus 9mm upper YHM ramped bolt, machined to accept Glock magazines by Double Diamond Magpul furniture UTG rear flip sights YHM front flip sight w/gas block (green) Primary Arms red dot (green) The carbines shoot really well. I shot 115 grain FMJ out, then for fun, put 127 grain +P+ through it. On the 8th round, the bolt catch sheared off the green, so I bought the Seekins as a replacement. It's nice to use one set of magazines and one caliber when going to have a little fun.1 point

I’ve noticed an increase in the number of military veterans here on TGO. First, on behalf of my family, and myself, we sincerely thank you for your service to our country. As veterans we all have many memorable experiences we will never forget, be it from boot camp, cooped up in a submarine, mess hall, missing our loved ones or combat experiences. We have many things in common, two being; defending our country and our personal accounts of our military service. We have differences in our service also… In my day we didn’t have the sophisticated technology and equipment the military deploys today. I spent a year in a tropical jungle environment and many of you served in an arid sandy environment, mountainous, hot, cold, above / below water, in the air, etc. I would really like to hear some of your experiences you’re never going to forget. There are those horror experiences as military veterans that are best kept inside one’s self and not even spoken about to your spouse, so I request we keep it light. I’ll go first. After forty-one years, many memories have faded like an old newspaper but here’s one still fresh in my memory. August 21, 1971 (my birthday) – Shortly after midnight PST, on my non-adjusted watch, we landed in RVN and it was time to exit the Seaboard World Boeing 707, I was exhausted after a thirty-two hour trip from Travis, AFB. We had stopped in Alaska and Okinawa, Japan for fuel and maintenance. While getting my few personal items from the overhead storage compartment and preparing to de-board the plane, many thoughts were racing through my head. The first was a sigh of relief the plane made the trip. At nineteen years old (more on that later), I had just completed advanced individual training (AIT) at Ft. Eustis, VA. My military occupational skill (MOS) was 67N20, aviation mechanic. In short, I knew just enough to get myself into trouble. But I digress. While boarding the Boeing 707 (the first American jet liner if memory serves), its appearance was something out of a Stephen King novel. Massive swaths of paint were peeling from the fuselage, wings and tail sections. The aft section of the plane was encrusted completely in soot from jet fuel exhaust and probably never washed from the day it was built. Standing in line in the aisle of the plane slowly making my way to the exit I’m thinking how ironic this is landing in this hostile foreign country on my birthday, or is it my birthday? For the prior two days before the flight departed we got very little sleep due to all the paper work and processing required before we departed. Add to that the nervous tension and anticipation of actually going to a combat environment with the unknown and not getting a wink of sleep during the flight. I wasn’t the brightest bulb on the tree. Shuffling down the aisle in a fog I’m wondering what time it is here or if there’s a day change, is it my birthday now, yesterday or tomorrow. Let’s think about this Specialist Dennis1209 for a moment, it’s shortly after midnight PST, that’s California time, wait a minute, is it actually just after midnight or noon in California right now? I finally decided it’s not worth the effort to waste precious brain cells on the matter and continued to Zombie my way to the front exit door. I finally made it to the exit door when it hit me both literally and figuratively right upside the kisser! Forget about all the stories you’ve heard about CHARLIE… This country is going to get you first! Here it is pitch black outside just getting off the plane and I’m thinking, “don’t pass out from lack of oxygenâ€. I’ve never had such heat and humidity sap my body so hard! I’m going to have to drink the air I think I’m breathing! Another 24 hours of in country processing, swallowing red and white chalky horse malaria pills with the continued sleep deprivation, and I recognized myself as one of the cast members the other night on “The Walking Deadâ€. Never did figure out if I landed in RVN on my birthday, as there were more pressing issues a nineteen year old had on his mind? In the next episode of "War Stories". "Depends have not been ininvented yet"!1 point

Long story short: Made a ammo order almost 4 moths ago. (various cals and amounts) PSA was out of stock on some 32 auto ammo. I called when my first ammo shipment came and they offered a refund. I turned that down to wait. I forgot about my ammo. It came today!!! So my hats off to PSA for not forgetting about my back-order when I did. LOL1 point

The Walmart closest to me has some idiots working there. I was stading there when they had a call for Hydrashocks. The clerk asked the sporting goods manager if they had Hydrashock and the sporting goods manager went into a tirade about how civillians shouldn't be allowed to own HP's. I chimed in and said I carry Hydrshocks in my 1911. He got really disgusted and said civillians shouldn't be allowed to own 1911's either. I asked why and he said HP's and 1911's are designed to maim, not kill. He said the only thing civillians should have is a bolt action with FMJ rounds because they were designed to kill. I was in there another time right after they got the first AR in 22. A couple, with a 10-12 year old son in tow, asked to see the rifle. Once the clerk cleared it they handed it to the father. He looked at it and then handed it to his son. At that point the clerk went crazy, snatching the gun away from the kid, and told the father he just broke federal law. He told her is wasn't against the law for his son to hold a gun and the clerk argued back that it was. When they asked to see the gun again the cleark refused. And yet another example. A mother was going to buy her son his first gun, a Cricket. The mother looked at it then the clerk said they have had problems with them but he could fix it. He then whipped outhis leatherman and had the gun apart all over the counter. He they began filing various parts in the gun to fix the trigger. That time I called the store manager and she intervened the sale of the gun. They moved the guy out to automotive after that. And finally. I was there when the clerk was going to allow a straw purchase. A husband and wife came to the counter. He was looking at guns and decided he wanted one. He told the clerk he wanted it so the clerk handed him a 4473 to fill out. He said his wife needed to fill it out because he couldn't pass the background. The clerk said it was OK and had her begin to fill it out. I walked away and told a manager. The manager was in a dead sprint heading to sporting goods. I spoke to him a few days later and he said it was bad news. Then there is the customers, I could go on for hours about what kind of stuff I have seen in passing. Dolomite1 point

I think the 5.5 grains of unique looked pretty good group. You also have to consider fatigue after shooting some. The best way to test accuracy of loads is with a bench rest. As for the 1911, slide play is common, it's not ideal, but also not a death sentence. Now the fact that your barrel moves inside the bushing, makes me scratch my head. Is this when the slide is in battery? Post a close up pick of the barrel and bushing if you can. Also a pick of the rear o the slide can show slide fit. Like this, this is my TRP Now this is a ~$1400 1911, you can see its very snug slide to frame. It's not unusual as I said for there to be some gaps there in some models, but the barrel loose is a different story.1 point

Trading in a gun is just like trading in anything else or outright selling to a dealer. You won't get jack for it. Far better off to sell it yourself.1 point

If I wanted something besides an AR, I'd get it instead. There's something about having a build/variant that isn't on every gun store shelf and present in a lot of folks' gun safes.1 point

This thread started out with the OP simply showing off his 9mm AR build. You questioned why he didn't just go with any of the various Glock conversions that you were providing links to. I was merely suggesting that instead of spending all of the money necessary to convert your Glock pistol to SBR/carbine configuration, you could buy the S2K and keep the Glock as-is. I was just tossing my ideas out there. Sorry for adding my 2 cents.1 point

I have never had to shoot a dog even working with the SPCA. I have a friend that has and it was because the dog had hold of his arm and started to shake. This was a bulldog and he had no choice. I personally would have to be bitten and in fear of my life. In my opinion there are no bad dogs just bad owners. JTM Sent from my iPhone1 point

It is the responsibility of the dog owner to make sure their dogs are contained to their property… period. And if the dog is off their property and ends up dead; it’s their fault. I’m a dog lover and I would never kill a dog because he came running up to me, or because a neighbor lets their dog get out. However if a dog was attacking me I have no qualms about killing it. I would probably wait long enough that if I judged its intentions wrong I would get bit before I killed it. However; the owner of the dog is going to pay dearly if I get bit on property I have a right to be on.1 point

Good point, completely forgot that a person's race affects innocence or guilt. If the man with the gun was a minority, he was clearly defending his own life. If the man with a knife was a minority, clearly the gun toting redneck was a racist and committed a hate crime. If both are minorities, it will be written off as an accident.1 point

And this is why I lube pistol cases as well, even with a carbide die. Lubing them also makes it easier and saves effort. Dolomite1 point

I don't know why they're saying that unless it's some grand .gov conspiracy to put people into jail. I could be missing something but I don't think so. Stock allowing it to be fired from the shoulder? Check. Barrel under 16 inches? Check Why on earth someone would spend another $500 on top of a $500 pistol when they could go get a far better dedicated rifle is beyond me. A fool and his money I suppose. They probably endorse Romeny because he's a big government Democrat when you look close. Just listen to him, he doesn't oppose Obama on much, he just thinks he can do it all better. And I'm sure he probably can do it slightly better when it comes to budgets and business. But all the big government bloat isn't going to go anywhere with Romney. Trust me. Proof is how he ran his own state - like a Democrat. I'm voting Romney because I have no other choice. One day I hope we can get a true conservative, (I'd take a Reagan conservative), or a real common sense Libertarian.1 point

This is 20 years ago, but ATF sent me a book that I had to read about regarding many examples of straw purchases, and I recall that if I had a reason or suspicion of a straw, I must refuse the sell. While I was in business, I do not know if I was tested by ATF or there are just dump stupid people, but I recall several blantant straw attemps and subtle attempts. I once saw a guy give another man some cash, and the man came in to the counter, pointed to a certain gun, and said he would take it. He didn't even touch the gun. I refused the sale, and got into an argument. Another time, the man told his wife in front me that he wanted a particular gun, but told her to complete the 4473, I had to ask why, he didn't say anything, but she ratted him out, that he was prohibited from owning guns, well I had to stop that one. Another time, an elderly man and young man came in, the elderly man clearly stated he wanted a particular gun, but the young man started completing the 4473, and never did ask the elderly man any of the silly questions, well I refused that one too, but later they came back with a power of attorney document that had been notarized for the young man, and this time I allowed the sale. I can rattle off many more. The risk and reward in the gun business is not worth the risk (fines, lose of license, and possible jail time) over a $40 to $100 profit transaction. When in doubt lose the sale, and stay open.1 point

Boy talk about some real ignorance about what Romney meant. Idiots. This is like the story I heard about some black lawyer who went berzerk on some white judge who happened to use the phrase "black hole" in describing some kind of evidence that had disappeared... or something. How do you get through law school with such ignorance of the common vernacular? The lib-tards are pulling out all the stops now. See Biden's comments today about 'Republican bullets pointed at you' (to the crowd he was addressing)? What a class act. How scary that he is only a heartbeat away from the the top job. And look at the toolbag we have in the top job now.1 point

I do believe that if a seller decides it looks like a straw purchase they can elect to not sell it but am not 100% sure what the exact rules are here. However they cannot refuse due to it being too much for the person, or held wrong, or any of that. Its the typical bad clerk issue. Lots and lots of gun clerks have a serious hangup about female shooters and discourage them in every possible way, patronize them, and are generally completely sexist about it. A lot of shooters do too, they see a woman with a gun and try to "correct" or "help" her when they would have let a male alone. Then people wonder why their wives do not care to shoot, and they have to sneak gun purchases around the wife, etc.1 point

Stupidity is one of the many reason why I NEVER shop at WalMart (another reason is that it seems as if a lot of people get shot in WalMart parking lots) Obviously, this was a VERY STUPID employee who, if the manager of that WalMart has any sense at all, will fire quickly and apologize profusely to this woman (although it sounds like the manager of this WalMart may be just as stupid as his employee given their initial reaction of refusing to say anything about the incident). You just can't fix stupid can you.1 point

What Dolomite says cannot be emphasized enough. Tom Gresham brought up the fact that on the change.gov website they have added back their agenda for guns and the second amendment. Click on this link http://change.gov/agenda/urbanpolicy_agenda/ and scroll down to the Crime and Law Enforcement section. Check out the bullet point Address Gun Violence in Cities. There is some really scary things in there but it all ends with they want to make the expired federal Assault Weapons Ban permanent. Add to that the fact that the next president will appoint two if not three supreme court justices and it becomes very evident that we need to get him out of office. Imagine what this country will look like if Barry gets to pick two more like his last two picks. It would devastate this country for at least the next forty years. Imagine if the supreme court voted down Heller and McDonald? That is exactly what you would have to look forward to for the rest of our lives and probably our kids also. Just my $0.02.1 point

It was Clinton who did the 1994 AWB that expired in 2004. Don't think for one second that any future ban will only be like the 1994 ban. Any new ban will be much more restrictive. I see it being a carbon copy of the California laws except on a national level. The Hughes ammendment, which banned the purchase of new MG in 1986, was the work of Charlie Rangel. The same Charlie Rangel who has been investigated for ethics violations, bribes and numerous other things that indicate low morals. The Republicans were calling for a by name vote and Rangel, being the speaker of the house, called for a voice vote. The measure was voted down but Rangel declared it passed on the voice vote. That is why he wanted a voice vote and not a by name vote because he could declare it passed. You could hear the obvious disgust with what had happened but Charlie said it passed so it passed. I think Obama will try to get the House and Senate to pass but when it doesn't I suspect he will use an executive order to put it in place considering he has championed that pratice during his first term. That or he will just direct the policy makers and policy enforcers to just "make it happen" and let the courts sort out what is legal and what it not. He probably realizes that most gun owners cannot afford a lawyer to sue for the seized items back. He, and his policy makers, have already hit the gun industry really hard. Surplus powder can no longer be sold to private parties effective this week. As is any component of military ammo that is torn down. Brass can no longer be sold to civillians as well as 62 grain "green tip" bullets. They are going to make our guns less appealing by removing our ability to afford to shoot them. And when we can't use them we will be less likely to resist. The transport of powder, smokeless or otherwise, now costs a lot more through mandatory licensing and insurance. There is also a push by this administration to require background checks, similar to firearms, for anyone buying components in "large" quantities. It hasn't happened yet but it is nothing more than a memo to change the policy. And that is the problem, our representatives are allowing rules to be put in place that should be laws that passed both the house and senate. There will be a day when reloading, shooting and owning firearms will be such a huge hassle that there will be fewer and fewer new shooters. And when us "old" shooters pass away the cycle of gun ownership will be broken. And the second that happens the American citizens become subjects. If you are on the fence with Romney, like I was, now is the time to give up on anyone else but Romney. If for nothing else for the common bond that brings us here that is firearms. Whether you have a gun to hunt, for sports, for defense or just because you can you need to unite with your fellow gun owners to vote Obama, and any other Democrat, out of office. Anything less will result in a very, very dark time in our history. Dolomite1 point

The problem is that we're not making the other side bleed enough. There are still plenty of Taliban fighters out there in the world. I'd venture to guess that we're nowhere near scratching the surface of finding/dealing with them all. It's probably more like standing in a kitchen and trying to stomp on a bunch of roaches while the lights are on and they're scattering everywhere. Larger measures need to be taken to eradicate the problem, which I'm not sure that our government (especially in this day and age) has the courage to do. The governments in the Middle East are not a representation of their people, they're a representation of the most corrupt and the richest being able take power. Therefore the argument that their people should be held accountable for their governments actions is hardly the case. That would be like saying that you and I are accountable for "Obama-care." Sorry, I didn't vote for the guy and I refuse to take responsibility for his actions. If I cast my vote and the person I vote for gets elected, then I take responsibility for him/her as I helped put them into office to represent my voice. Many of the countries over there don't have that luxury. While we may not be the best at helping to build governments or countries, we are doing some good work over there (building schools, getting DEPENDABLE running water and electricity up, and training them to fight and defend themselves). The problem is that none of this happens overnight. It takes time and patience, things that we as Americans just aren't that used to.1 point

Our "job", and national security concerns were done in Afghanistan 8 or 9 years ago. Since then we've been trying to do nation building, which we suck at... A good President would have a simple foreign policy, mess with us and we'll place your country back in the stone age, no power, water, or bridges left standing... then you're on your own to fix the mess. If we had followed that policy, less than 200 troops would have been killed, and it would have saved us almost a trillion dollars of our grandchildren's money.1 point
