These two mean more to me than anything else I own. I inherited the Smith & Wesson Model 19 Combat Magnum from my dad when he passed away two weeks ago. He inherited it from my grandfather. My grandfather was a career law enforcement / Federal security officer. The Combat Magnum may very well have ridden on his hip and ensured that he made it home to his family every night. Sadly neither he or my dad are around any more to ask. The Colt 1911 National Match was my grandfather's and he competed with it successfully for a number of years while working as the head of security for one of the Department of Energy's nuclear facilities. The National Match was in absolutely horrible shape when it was handed off to me after my dad died. It was in pieces and the barrel and barrel bushing were completely rusted together, and the firearm was just generally neglected. I soaked the pieces in a gallon freezer bag full of CLP for two weeks and then gently scrubbed on them with a brass brush and some 0000 steel wool until the rust was gone. After careful cleaning and reassembly of the remaining pieces, it now cycles and appears to function properly although I may have it gone through by a competent 1911 smith sometime soon just for safety's sake. After that, it will once again return to rust-prevention bag and be left in the safe. After some more research [link] it appears that this 1911 is not a Gold Cup but rather one of the original National Match run produced between 1932 and 1940 per the serial number on the slide. Amazing. Both of these are family heirlooms and represent two generations of my forefathers. One day my son might own these and I hope when the day comes his son might as well, and so forth. To say that they are invaluable to me would be an understatement. What do you have that's been in your family for a while?3 points

It's by far advisable to separate art from politics -- otherwise one's knowledge and appreciation of those arts will be quite limited indeed. - OS3 points

I've had my eye on a this holster for a Kel-Tec w/ Crimson Trace laser for a long time now, but I'm just too cheap to shell out the $65. I looked for a cheaper alternative at the gun show yesterday, but saw nothing I liked under $50. While my wife was hogging the TV last night, I decided to make my own. The flap in the back breaks up the outline of the gun completely. It's only attached to the holster by Chicago screws, so it kind of hinges, allowing you to get your hand in there on the grip easily. Here's how it turned out: I know it's rough in a few places, being hand-sewn and cut with a box cutter and all. To make matters worse, I buy clearance/blemished leather from Tandy, since I'm neither talented nor fast enough to ever sell any of my little projects. Plus, it's just gonna get scuffed up with use anyway. I made the sewn part 4-ply, so it's easy to "push off" with with my middle finger when I draw. If I ever make another, I think I'll do the holster part inside out. That way the backing and the front will grip the inside of a pocket, making draws even easier. BTW...these Internet holster guys make it hard to rip off a design when they don't post good pics from alternate angles, LOL. Actually, since I'm not selling them, I'd guess it's legal to make copy somebody's work like this. Any thoughts on that?2 points

He did break it and it came on the 65th anniversary of Chuck Yeager being the first person to break it in an aeroplane.2 points

Cheating is a relative term. If everyone is doing it and finding ways around testing procedures I don't see why the witch hunt is out for this guy. I'm puzzled even more by the folks that talk about him like he murdered a baby or something. This is professional cycling; hardly something to be worked up about. I wouldn't care if he was getting steroids shot into him while he was simultaneously snorting coke off a hooker's ass and clubbing a baby seal. But then again, I stopped believing in the infallibility of heroes when Clint Eastwood did Bridges of Madison County.2 points

But their $10 will get you in both days. Goodman charges each day, plus you have to pay to park both days. Much better deal to go to the RK shows IMO.2 points

I just wanted to say thanks to NTPS for making this a charity event for RWF. As always the stages were excellent and it gave me a good excuse with the wife to go shooting. I know there is some talk with some of the other clubs of doing the same thing which I know RFW will appreciate. I did stop by and see Robert today while in Dickson and he is continuing to improve and looking better every time I see him....1 point

Winchester model 12 12 gauge. Its a 1914 model, bought new by my grandpa in 1914. Its been stolen once, and got back, in the late 30's. It was passed to my dad in the early 70's and now he has passed it to me, just as Ill pass it on down to my kids. I still so a lot of hunting with it, squirrel in the fall, turkey in the spring.1 point

My Grandfather's Ithaca M1911 carried at Guadacanal. Like a lot of the guys that were there, he didn't much talk about it, but my guess is this pistol has seen some stuff.1 point

I had an eye opening situation when I was in Bible study last year. There were about 15 guys meeting that day and one of the guys had to take his gun out of its holster to adjust after he sat down on it funny. A couple of the guys laughed and said it happens everyonce and a while to them. The conversation went on about ways to carry and then someone asked how many were carrying at that moment. We all decieded to place the guns on the table at the same time and wouldnt't you know EVERY guy there was carrying. We had met every week for a year and until that day we had no idea the rest of us were carrying, The funny part is that there were 2 more guns than people so that ment we had 2 guys that had back ups on them. My Sig and 2 revolvers were the only large frame guns the rest were subcompacts and I think that had a lot to do with the fact we never saw anyone carrying.1 point

Years ago I kind of enjoyed watching the Braves. Then there were all the player's strikes where millionaires were bitching about not getting paid enough for playing a damn game and that soured my stomach against major league baseball. Other than that, if I tried really, really hard I might be able to give less of a damn about sports than I do...nah, probably not. When I was a kid and dad was home (he was a long haul truck driver so he was away a lot) he never watched sports. Instead, on weekends when there was nothing but sports on he'd be outside 'working' on one of the cars (whether it needed it or not.) I guess that is why I never got into sports, myself - I was usually out there with him. I sure wish I'd picked up more about working on cars, though (truth be told I could do some work on older cars like we had back then but newer cars with all the computer stuff, nope.)1 point

I guess I just don't understand. What's the big deal if someone double posts on a topic. Why does someone always feel it's there responsibility to point it out? No one is making anyone read anything. If someone sees a topic they don't want to read, or reread, why can't they just move along without playing cyber nanny. I know, I could ignore this rebuke as well. But, I would like these questions answer to put my mind at peace and give me some insight.1 point
