  2. I feel that premium bullets are wasted money for deer/black bear sized game. If you go after something big, I'd spend the coin on premium bullets. Most of what you read and hear about them is simply marketing hype. I've been killing deer with boring regularity for 30 years now with plain lod Remington Core Locts, and Sierra Game Kings. There's only one degree of dead, and while the latest designer bullet may make you seem cooler to your friends, it just ain't gomma help on deer sized game from a 30-06.

  6. Seems pretty ridiculous. So if I call the police and tell them my neighbor stole my lawn mower and is using it to mow his lawn, would they come arrest him and give me his mower? Since when is playing outside unsupervised child endangerment? The oldest was 9. I understand it's dangerous in today's times, but she should have been given the benefit of doubt. I would have spent the night in jail, but it would be for kicking my neighbors ass

  7. Now I will admit my memory isn't what is used to be and I forget a lot of stuff since my accident. Stuff I really shouldn't like names are really bad as well as my short term memory. When I go to sleep it is even worse because I forget a lot of the previous day when I wake up. But it isn't all bad that bad because when I open up TGO in the morning I find myself looking at what appears to be all new topics even though some already have a dozen pages of replies. And I get to relive the emotions and exploration of these "new" topics that I don't remember from the day before. It is like watching reruns for the first time but doing it over and over again. It is especially fun trying to remember what it was I posted in some of the threads before opening them up. I write or save everything important now otherwise I would go crazy. But in the end having a "new" TGO everyday isn't all that bad. Dolomite

  12. Not trying to derail this thread, just following up with some updated info about a story out there that is mis-leading... ------------------ Received from Gary Bauer a few minutes ago re: the Chick-Fil-A caving story - Did Chick-fil-A Cave? The media has been gleefully reporting that Chick-fil-A caved in to pressure from left-wing politicians and homosexual rights groups and will no longer make donations to "anti-gay" groups like Focus on the Family and the National Organization for Marriage. This is a perfect example of how the left distorts the news. Chick-fil-A has never donated to the National Organization for Marriage. It has supported pro-marriage efforts through its own foundation. In a statement yesterday, the company reiterated its commitment to "programs that educate youth, strengthen families and enrich marriages." You can read this Citizenlink report for more information. Chick-fil-A Sets the Record Straight http://www.citizenlink.com/2012/09/20/chick-fil-a-sets-the-record-straight-2/ In response to media reports that Chick-fil-A has agreed to stop making charitable donations to groups like Focus on the Family, the company today released a statement to set the record straight. Contrary to reports first made by the gay-activist group The Civil Rights Agenda (TCRA) on Tuesday and later picked up by mainstream media outlets, Chick-fil-A and its charitable-giving arm, the WinShape Foundation, did not agree to stop making donations to groups that support the biblical definition of marriage in exchange for being allowed to open a franchise in Chicago. 14. Sheesh. When I was that age I would head out in the mornings and might not see Mom again until after dark. We crossed Bonny Oaks about a hundred times a day (when it was still residential but still busy), played deep in the woods and around the TNT plant.... and all unsupervised. Damn wonder we survived without "the MAN" holding our hands. I won't even mention the BB guns, darts and other dangerous toys that made us all men

  15. A pretty practical view. The "cost", financial and otherwise, of killing (or perhaps worse, wounding) a bad guy will almost certainly be substantial whether or not the shooting was legally justified and of course, especially substantial if the shooting is eventually ruled to not have been justified. Protecting my life is worth all of that that cost and then some; protecting my stuff...not so much. (I will say, anyone that comes after my hound or my cat will be have some very large caliber hell rain down on them - the "state" may consider them "property" but for me, they are family. )

  16. That is the original phony-baloney "story" that Bryan P was referring to. Chick-Fil-A has not confirmed that this is the case.

  18. Well, you've opened the can of worms now! Here's the short version: In 1990, Mark Westrom bought the rights to the name 'Armalite', as well as 'AR10', and a few others from the defunct company that designed and built rifles in the 1950's and 1960's. Notice that he bought the NAMES, not the designs! Mark's new Armalite company started building a new .308 rifle based on scaled up AR-15 parts with as much parts commonality as possible for cost savings. At the time, M-14 magazines were the least expensive and most plentiful .308 magazines available. So he designed his new rifle to use modified M-14 magazines. He called his new rifle the 'AR-10' after the 1960's rifle of the same name even though there are no parts in common, even the magazine is different. A fellow named Reed Knight started making very high precision .308 rifles to get military contracts. He got Eugene Stoner to help design it. (Eugene Stoner designed the original AR-10 and AR-15) That rifle was designed to use the original AR-10 magazines and new copies made of steel. Reed Knight managed to buy up a large stock of those magazines. The Knight's rifles is called the SR-25 and has seen some use by Spec-Ops. Enter DPMS and a host of others! Most use the same type magazine and receivers as the SR-25, since that magazine is a better design for that platform. And while they may share parts between models, you need to be careful. DPMS has sold a LOT of rifles since they have managed to produce excellent quality at a lower price. Nowadays, most folks will state they are using a DPMS-style rifle or Armalite-style rifle as those are the base types of receivers you start with. The term 'AR-10' is still an Armalite trademark for their rifles, but many folks use it describe any .308 AR-style rifle. None of these rifles is technically 'MilSpec'. While the military has bought small numbers of various types of .308 AR-style rifles, none has gone so far as to become a normal-issue weapon, even for snipers. If it were me, I'd just buy a DPMS rifle in whatever configuration you like. You will spend a lot more money building one up to match it, and DPMS stands behind their products. The excellent Magpul magazines fit that style as well. There are other manufacturers making that type of mags for as little as $15 each.

  20. I don't read books like this, but I can't assume there is anything in that book which could possibly do more damage than what was done by the administration when they released all the intimate details. The Paki doctor being outed did more damage to strategic level source operations than any other leak in history. At least when Plame was offered up it was politically motivated. This will prevent future operations like this. Remember, we've had a $25 mil reward on UBL for a long time, and no one turned him in. This is why. Because we sell off our sources for political gain, and you can't spend $25 mil if you're rotting in a Paki prison or having your head cut off in a YouTube video. My personal feelings on it are mixed. I feel as if the man is profiteering, since he is selling his first hand account. It is the norm these days, but I would have strong reservations about it. Mostly I would feel as if it was a dick move to the other guys I worked with. On the other hand, there is historical significance to the story, and what better source of information than a guy that was on the hit? Probably the most classy way to handle it would be to donate the proceeds to a good cause, which it appears that is what he did. I guess I don't have a problem with him keeping a big chunk of change, because there is no way he is going to get work in the community after writing the book, IMO.

  21. Obama promised that if we give 4 more years for his economic policies to take effect everything will be better! He promised! So in four years my IRA should have made quite the forward progress, I'll be able to own my own business without fear of economic collapse, and I might even have my home paid off! Sounds pretty rosy to me!!! I'm voting for Romney, but even if Obama wins it sounds like I can't lose! This is the best Presidential election ever!!! U S A! U S A! U S A!

  32. For those of you concerned about Pawlenty's departure; can you name anything good he's done for Romney's campaign? If you can't then why should anyone care if he leaves? His departure may be the best thing that could happen to Romney's campaign.

  34. Thanks for the kind words. If there is anything else I can help you out with please feel free to post it. Although I answer PM's nearly daily about AR's I prefer it be done in public. It helps everyone gain some knowledge rather than just a person or two. Also, before you go about spending a ton of money on accessories get with some local AR shooters first. That way you can get an idea of how something feels before you spend the money. I can't tell you how much money I have wasted over the years buying something I though I would like but ended up hating. Dolomite

  35. What I would do is get a Sport, if you can find one, then use the extra money to add accessories to help it meet its requirements. Get a set of rails, foreward grip, magazines and a light. Also, every single used Sport I have seen sell lately has sold for more than the purchase price. Not to many guns are able to do that. Dolomite

  36. That's cause some folks think that an AR won't work without a dust cover and forward assist. They do. Anyone that makes a big deal out of that is simply ignorant. Other rifles don't have dust covers on their bolts and they work fine.

  38. Theft of property is bad. I'm pretty sure we can all agree on that. But to take the life of another person is a monumental decision. In my opinion, simple theft is not a justification for killing. Stuff is replaceable and ultimately irrelevant. The only thing that matters is life, because in the end, that is all you truly have. If you take someone's life, you take away their ability to be reformed, to change their ways, seek forgiveness, and become useful and productive members of society. Stealing is selfish, lazy, and cowardice. Killing someone over a truck is stupid. That's what police, courts, and insurance are for.

  39. I am not promoting which party to vote, but I know if you are a supportive of Planned Parenthood, you will vote democratatic, if you are supportive of ACLU you vote democratatic, if you vote for same sex unions, you vote democratatic. I can continue, but I think that is enough said. The republican party is not a saint either, but at least I can identify who I am not voting for. I can never vote for any public offical that is a confessed member of that D party, on a national, state or local platform. My church does not promote any party, but the teachings of my church makes it an easy choice for me. I vote with my convictions, not my wallet.
