  1. Few things in real life are completely black or white. The punk grabbing my pink flamingo from front yard probably shouldn't be shot as many times as the punk who takes my pink car. - OS

  2. If a Libertarian is against drugs, he doesn't do drugs. If a Republican/Democrat is against drugs, he wants all drugs banned for everyone. If a Libertarian homosexual doesn't support gay marriage, he doesn't marry his/her same sex. If a Republican/Democrat is against gay marriage, he wants same sex marriages banned for everyone. If a Libertarian is against expensive and bankrupt social programs (Obamacare/Medicare/Medicaid/Social Security), there is little he can do. If a Republican/Democrat supports social programs, he forces everyone to participate through taxation and penalties.

  3. Sounds about right. You see, if you give Marines live ammo they will absolutely shoot people that need shooting, which is a bad thing if you are a weak minded liberal incapable of understanding that there are people out there that want to kill Americans and violate our sovereignty.

  6. The DA would have to be a genius at jury selection to get a conviction. I hope he did hit what he was aiming at. As long as he had a clear line of fire, I say throw as much lead at the bastards as possible. I really would like to see our state laws changed to more closely resemble Texas. As far as I am concerned, defense of property should be a justified reason to use deadly force.

  8. In the discussions I have had on here there has been quite a lot of glossing over of Romney's very progressive record as governor of MA. The most common defense given is that "MA is a liberal progressive state and he did the beat he could." This defense begs one question, if Romney was really a conservative, how did he get to be governor of a liberal progressive state in the first place? My guess is that you get there by being a liberal. His record as governor appears to back that up.

  9. If you ever wondered which side of the fence you sit on, this is a great test! If a Republican doesn't like guns, he doesn't buy one. If a Democrat doesn't like guns, he wants all guns outlawed. If a Republican is a vegetarian, he doesn't eat meat. If a Democrat is a vegetarian, he wants all meat products banned for everyone. If a Republican is homosexual, he quietly leads his life. If a Democrat is homosexual, he demands legislated respect. If a Republican is down-and-out, he thinks about how to better his situation. A Democrat wonders who is going to take care of him. If a Republican doesn't like a talk show host, he switches channels. Democrats demand that those they don't like be shut down. If a Republican is a non-believer, he doesn't go to church. A Democrat non-believer wants any mention of God and religion silenced. If a Republican decides he needs health care, he goes about shopping for it, or may choose a job that provides it. A Democrat demands that the rest of us pay for his. If a Republican reads this, he'll forward it so his friends can have a good laugh. A Democrat will delete it because he's "offended".

  11. I don't see how one can absolutely separate a candidate from his religion, or claim that it wouldn't influence his decision making. There are various "laws" that one is to adhere to by professing any of the world's mainstream faiths. Many of those are in conflict with existing or proposed US laws. A man will have to choose which master to best serve in many cases, not to mention his own interpretation of both the laws of man and of his god. The degree with which he's able to do that determines your above criterion. Maybe we're not debating the correct issue. Perhaps I agree with you more than it seems. The difference being that I don't believe certain pols will, or even can, completely separate the best interests of the country from the dictates of their religion. Depends both on the pol and the religion. It's seems to me that BHO isn't a devout anything (no, I don't believe he's a closet Muslim either), and if truth be known, is probably closer to my agnostic preference than any prez in recent history. Of course, his socialistic and rigid statist (to put it mildly) national and world view override any pluses which that might otherwise provide. Folks like Perry, Bachmann, and Santorum made it clear that their religion influences at least some of their political policy, and by your own criteria would not be bigotry to reject them on that basis.. I feel it's safe to say that any devout religious adherent is not immune to the same. And no Mormon is other than devout; by virtue of its outre creed, it allows fewer shades of gray than most. Quite difficult to nibble at Mormonism, it's pretty much an all or none discipline. I'd posit that it approaches Islam in its rigidity of structure and purpose. Of course, it's likely that many if not most in the USA (certainly most here on TGO) would argue that the national and religious ethos are to a great extent one and the same -- as long as the religious part is Christianity. And many don't count Mormons as Christians in the first place, so on that basis measured by your definition, I suppose "bigotry" is well represented indeed. However, one thing's irrefutable -- discrimination on any basis at all in the voting booth is unenforceable. - OS

  15. I'm all for calling a change in the law something other than a "parking lot bill"...what I would propose is an expansion of the castle doctrine which says something to the effect that... No one but LE can compel a search of a vehicle No one (not an employer or business owner, etc) can dictate what can be inside of your vehicle so long as what is in your vehicle is "legal" to have there and so long as your vehicle is "legally" parked or sitting or driving where it has a legal right to be. In other words, if a business or an employer or any other entity maintains a parking lot where you are invited to be (because you are an employee or customer or a person that entity exists to serve); then you can have anything (legal) in your vehicle you chose to have there just as if it were your personal, private residence and that said entity can't compel a search (or take disciplinary measures against you for not consenting to a search) any more than they could do so if they wanted to search your home.

  16. Well, knowing I keep a gun in the truck, I would have to assume he had my spare gun and was a danger to everyone around me. If he has my keys, he has the means to get to my sub-2000 and 6 15 round mags full of 40s&w jhp. That to me is my justification to attempt to stop him from becoming armed with my gun.

  21. I'm not trying to be an a$$ by saying it this way, but it baffles me that folks seem to think that America will stay out of it when (not if) Iran launches a nuke into Israel. We will absolutely get involved when that happens whether you think we should or not. That is the reality of the situation. Would it not make sense to prevent Iran from getting a nuke, especially when we can do that without committing forces or engaging in an actual aerial strike??? As someone who has answered the call when our country went to war, I do not want to have to do it again because Americans just kept hitting the snooze button, nor do I want my children to have to do it. We played that game and that's how we got two wars that everyone bitches about non-stop. Now, here we are with a clear cut example of how WW3 is going to start and the answer is to ignore it because it ain't our business? We played that game too; twice last century. Just incredibly naive and one dimensional to look at this situation as an Israeli problem only. We shouldn't have to wait until our mistakes are quantifiable. That is what being proactive is all about. It's like someone with high cholesterol not doing anything until they have a heart attack. Why wait until it gets that bad when you know the result is inevitable if you continue your way of life. Just absolutely mind boggling.

Indeed, the entire Christ tale bears remarkable resemblance to that of Horus. Who was equally undocumented, and worshiped for 3000 years or more also. - OS

  28. Couth, I ain't got it. The same monotonous refrain of "you are just a democrat and want the commie to win" in every thread detracts from the conversations. So you think I'm childish? Good, maybe you'll stop wasting your time posting the same lame, nonsensical attack in every thread I am involved in. What part of "I think Romney is really a liberal based upon his record" are you failing to grasp? If Romney is too fiscally liberal for me, how can I be a Democrat? If I want to massively cut federal spending and involvement back to its constitutionally enumerated roles, to include ending ALL social service programs, even the ones the Republicans like, how exactly does that make me a Democrat? When you can back up your statements with something resembling a cogent argument based in some realm of logic, then I will take you seriously.

  29. I'm with you. I'm glad to see that you won't be bullied with all of the nonsense. To me Romney is EVERYTHING that has been said about Obama over the years with the exception of their religions. I'll vote in November, but I'll leave one spot blank. Obama does not deserve a vote and there is no way that I'm voting for the "clean cut Koresh". Besides that, Tennessee is already decided in the presidential election.

  31. Sure, some of the specifics were good. Some were bad. Trying to gloss it over as pro-gun is dishonest. One cannot call an opinion a lie, and this is his opinion of the bill, no incorrect facts were presented here. I had not looked in a while. Here is what the bill he signed DID: -Ban "assault weapons" forever in the state as per the clinton ban nationwide which could expire. -Increased the duration of carry permit and related from 4-6 years, big whoop, renew less often. - Grace period for the same renewal, again, big whoop. - created a review board to go to when permit holders were denied. Not bad. That was the big pro-gun victory, a longer lasting CCW permit before renewal and a small review board to help people that were denied wrongfully, and this is much, much more significant than banning a large number of rifles until the end of time. No, he did not single handedly do the ban. He single-handedly failed to veto it because of all those meaningful pro-gun reforms that grossly outweighed the insignificant ban, as a way to compromise with his voters.

  33. I am absolutely astounded by the initial reaction from the Obama administration on this. We have a US Ambassador dead and we're apologizing to the mob that killed him. The irony of the date this took place is not lost on me. I have gone from disliking Obama as a politician to hating him as a man. He has declared open season on Americans by responding in such a weak manner. There will most certainly be more to follow if he is reelected.

  34. Government policy should never be dictated by religion. We back up Israel for the same reason I would stop one child from bullying another. I would not want to be bullied, which is essentially what Muslim countries try to do to Israel. Whether or not middle eastern countries use religious books to set their foreign policy is immaterial. I don't need a book to tell me what is right and wrong, i doubt you do either. Am I to look to she sky and ask an imaginary being for guidance? Makes no sense to me. As f'd up as this world is, if governments use the bible or koran to set policy maybe they need to rethink how they do things. Because it sure isn't working.

  35. Seems patently obvious to me, yet people that don't like Obama continue to beat Romney up. The time for that was before the primary. Now it's time to rally 'round the flag, boys! Otherwise we WILL get four more years of destroying our constitution and killing the country.

  36. Update overnight: Routers and the AP are quoting a Libyan government official saying that the US Ambassador and three people were killed in a rocket attack... I try not to say to much, but this one just irritates me so much that I have to throw something out there as I do not have a real reason not to and feel so very strongly. Our diplomatic efforts are failing. We are being treated around the world that we can be treated disrespectfully and get away with it. I cannot imagine ever allowing the national colors to be captured while I was capable of securing them in a US instillation in which I was working / assigned to. Much less allow them to be occupied. That is US sovereign territory and it is an act of war. Much less the assassination of a ambassador in a foreign country. I am absolutely disgusted that we allowed it to happen. Further reports say that the consulate in Benghazi was burned down. What? Really? We are a national superpower and we are calling this a "deplorable act" as the SECSTATE has been quoted as saying yesterday about the occupation. I am NOT saying we should carpet bomb their city, I am saying we should defend US territory and lives. I am questioning why did the Marines and the State Department security folks not have the area denial microwave system or sonic defense systems to knock people off those walls so we could defend our territory without giving the fools on the walls the ability to scream "see they killed us." Why is that not also part of the security plan in these installations? Also, why are we giving over 1.5B to Egypt, some 2+B to Pakistan, 2.5M to Libya? These governments are not friendly to us. It is arrogant to believe that we can buy them off. It has not worked well throughout history. Why not put that money into American lives? This is an atrocity. Where is our ambassador? If he is dead where are the bodies of him and those that died with him? Is video going to surface today of his body being dragged through the streets as in Somalia in '93? Perhaps I am just a dumb hick, but when someone punches my nation in the face I do not believe we should cower and beg them not to take our lunch money. My prayers go out to Chris Stevens' family, and for our nation.

  37. I think the real question, Chuck, is are you happy with the current administration? If you are, then great, because anything that distracts from its actions or undermines the Republican nominee guarantees another term for our current President. I suppose the real question, do those who are unsatisified with the Republican candidate, but want the current administration defeated, have an alternative that stands a snowball's chance in Hades of winning? I think the answer is no.i am far more libertarian than Republican and, frankly, voted Libertarian in the last election, but I will do nothing in this one that will assist the current administration? The question isn't is Rominey my ideal candidate. The question is, is he better than the alternative?

  38. Does it really matter? There are only two men who stand a chance of winning in November. That is a fact. The question that keeps being posed is would you rather get punched in the face or kicked in the balls? You can say "neither" but one of the two is going to happen whether you like it or not. I'd rather get punched in the face, and I'd like to at least get a say in the decision instead of having folks make that decision for me. I don't like it either, but you can choose to live in reality or fantasy pretend world where life is fair.
