  1. Nice straw man. I never said it might not be necessary under some circumstances, but we have the ability to cause change that they did not - the voting booth. Besides that, they didn't WANT to take up arms against the crown, they simply felt they had no other choice. Those who want a revolution (a la 1775 and following) are simply dreaming of being Rambo, ignoring the horrors of what it would really be like.

  2. Are we going to have a revolution everytime the election doesn't go our way? That will get old fast.

  4. Funny, I remember when people were bitching about how there were so many signs about Jared Laughner and Holmes before they went on a shooting rampage. There is plenty here to indicate that perhaps he was an unstable person intending on doing something violent. Perhaps there is more stuff we don't know about in conjunction to his posts. Either way, this isn't a case of Big Brother looking to squash free speech. I think there were folks that were genuinely concerned he was going to do something crazy. Plus, he was a Ron Paul supporter.

  8. I stopped being a "Republican" after about a year of "W" I now consider myself a "Goldwater Conservative" Independent. After being a Republican for almost half a century, I take no delight in how the GOP is self-destructing. The Dems don't really even have to campaign. Every time a Republican opens his mouth on TV they re-elect Obama! The GOP needs a purge and all new people, real Conservatives not Neo-Cons!

  10. We may not have the government we want, but we have the government the American people want. We have an opportunity to change the government with every election. I’m sure most of us here vote and I doubt that many of us voted for Obama. The Republican Party let us down this time, they had a shot at taking out Obama and apparently they thought Romney was the best they had to offer. We have a two party system; like it or not. Sure, a third party could be elected, but no one has been able to do it yet, no one has really even come close. If I wanted to see Obama reelected I would be trying to convince everyone I know to vote for Paul, Johnson, or whoever the latest person is that couldn’t make the cut. I don’t want to see Obama reelected, but I think unless things change a lot before the election (77 days from now) he will be. Look as us here; we are as divided as can be. Our government will never be overthrown by violence from within. There are too many Americans that have vowed that will not happen. Who are these nut cases that want to start a revolution going to go attack, our military, a bunch of cops? Of course they aren’t, the chickenchits will bomb a building with a bunch of innocent citizens and children in it, shoot a bunch of people including little children in a mall parking lot, or shoot a bunch of people in a movie theater even shooting an infant at point blank range. Why? Because there is something mentally wrong with them. I congratulate whoever saw the warning signs here and put this guy in the nut house. Maybe he can get some help, or if not, maybe he can be charged criminally for his violent rants. Do I have to worry about this happening to me? Of course not, neither do most of you. Crazy people always scream about their rights when they are arrested and you can always count on some poor misguided soul spewing out some Thomas Jefferson quotes taken out of context.

  11. I think there is more to this story. For the F.B.I. and the Secret Service to show up at this guys door he had to have said something that was deemed to be an actual threat to someone's life. I don't know what happened, but it is definitely more than what we currently know.

  14. Just making the point that all this talk seems to have started from the far right after Obama was elected - in the eight years Bush was cramming us un the toilet no one seemed to mind too badly. Now I hear more talk than ever about an armed revolution. Seems like a load of sour grapes.

  16. I'm all about vigilance. I think it's great that folks call out are government when they step over the line. That's one way of keeping them in check. The other is voting them the hell out. The revolutionary talk that has been ramping up over the past year as we close in on the election is just silly though. So long as we have an equal voice in our ability to cast a vote, the American people have the power. The problem is the average American is a mouth-breathing half wit. Revolution is to educate the half wits of our nation to a level that they understand what our priorities should be and get off the couch long enough to cast a vote in the proper direction. Maybe that is asking too much, but the other option is simply not an option... not as long as the people are still in control.

  19. Well, better to wait to long than not long enough. I can't get the seeming lust some have to get into some sort of 'revolutionary war'. Too many video games and movies is all I can figure. What's so odd is how few of these conversations I heard amongst the conservatives and libertarians when Bush was in office. Not casting stones or suggesting anything (other than bias), but Bush did more to harm our liberties than Obama has. Whether it's the Patriot Act or rampant spending (including the bailouts / TARP), Bush set us on the path of destruction like no president in history, yet I never heard folks talking about 'the end of our way of life' or 'the end of American' when he was blowing our liberties and our future out of the water... Maybe I just didn't have my eyes open.

  20. Just a couple of observations... No one here knows the whole story of what this marine did or said...I suspect that there is more to this than a few Facebook posts (and I certainly hope there is). Nothing you say on the internet (including in email) should be considered private...once it's said and sent it's out there, somewhere, forever - regardless of the rightness or wrongness of this particular action against this marine, we would all do well to remember that. The First Amendment to the Constitution of the United States guarantees you freedom of speech...it does not and never has guaranteed you a platform from which to speak, an audience to hear what you have to say nor a guarantee of no consequences for what your say.

  21. I get to be involved in revolution every time I vote. If I have to get shot at I would prefer it to be on a different continent; not in close proximity to where my family sleeps.

  22. He wasn't taken into custody because of his anti-gov comments or because he believes that there will be some kind of revolution, it is because he made clear that he was about do to something. I'm betting they were watching him for a good long time. He made several references in the past to wishing someone would "pick him up" so he could start an armed rebellion against the government. His last post before he was arrested claimed that someone was finally on their way to get it started. Sounds like a doomsday post to me. Not too different than other folks that have gone off the deep end and started shooting people.... do I need to give you a list? With that, we don't know what else was going on. Was there someone close to him that called the authorities and said that he was going to do something crazy? Did he have the means to do it? Means, motive and opportunity in addition to claims of getting ready to take action should certainly raise the eyebrows of folks who get paid by the taxpayer to provide some degree of security. This isn't about the 1st Amendment at all. If all speech was free I could yell "fire" in a crowded theater, make comments about planning to kill the President or brag about having automatic weapons/cocaine/hookers/meth/dead bodies in my house without any fear of law enforcement doing something about it. That isn't the world I live in. It isn't the world you live in either.

  23. So if someone says they intend to do something violent to you or your family you would expect law enforcement to wait until that act is done? I think they have plenty here to indicate that he was going to do something violent. This is just a snippet of what he posted and doesn't include postings over the history of the account. You also assume that there was nothing else to indicate that he was planning to do something.

  26. Why does it matter what he said? There was a time when you had to actually do something to be arrested, not just speaking your mind.

  27. Before making up my mind I'd have to read the actual posts, not an abstract of them as described by him and his supporters. The Secret Service doesn't show up on your doorstep for saying govt officials should be arrested.

  31. I travel in Louisiana often on business. I have several good friends there. The law and reality are not always the same thing. New Orleans is more touristy, if that's a word, than the rest of the state and I expect in the tourist bars the gun law is generally obeyed. My impression, as you get deeper into the southern part of the state, is if you're not carrying in a bar, you're probably the only one.

  32. Comcast has DVR options now. I have TiVos and love them. It'd be hard to justify their cost now that Comcast has their own DVRs, but the interface of a TiVo is the best. The downside is that you lose the OnDemand option.

  35. I have an LCP. I pocket carry it, and dont worry about it. The long trigger pull IS the safety. You do need to carry it in a pocket holster that covers the trigger. Carrying it unchambered is not something I would do. It's not heavy enough to hurt someone when you throw it at them.

  38. I've seen a couple of beauties....and I was offered ten dollars for my Great Plains Mountain Flinter. I'm also seeing those fake ML's for 50 or 60 bucks...you know the ones...look like modern bolt guns. Thompson Center Hawken is a bastardized reproduction. Single wedge, coil spring lock. 1:48. They do have some pretty wood though. When you get down to it..a gun is worth what you're offered for it and what you're willing to take.

  40. I have said it before, I will say it again, and I will stand by it. I will never live to see the day that I am forced to turn in any of my guns, even if they send some one to take them. The opinions I hold regarding the second amendment are stronger than any of our other constitutional rights. I am not a constitutional scholar or anything, but it is my belief that, with the second amendment, we do not need the constitution to guarantee these other rights. If we hold fast to the second amendment, we can guarantee those rights on our own. This may be a little extreme for some, but it certainly was not for our forefathers. For they had the insight to understamd that we did not need guns to gather food, to have recreation, or to even serve as protection from thugs, but rather that our arms may be used to spill the blood of tyrannical leaders. In my opinion, tyranny starts with an unarmed populous. I will not be part of that populous, one way or the other.
