  1. Yep, I'm pretty pleased. With a cool evening in the forecast last night, my wife and i went to our property in the hills for a little picnic and campfire outing. We brought our survival bag along because....well....you just never know. She decided she wanted to try starting the fire with no matches or lighter. After all, she has seen Les Stroud do it on TV. This was her first attempt at survivor style fire starting. She used a Swedish Firesteel and sure enough, within 4 or 5 minutes, we had a fire. Matches? We don't need no stinking matches!

  3. This evening I was barbecuing by myself in the gravel driveway. I was constantly going in and outdoors for this and that. One of the times I went out to check on it, I was about 6 feets from the grill checking to see if it needed turned over. Out of the corner of my eye I see something. It is slithering by me about two feet away. It is stopping every six inches or so and looking at me, as to say, "Howdy neighbor"? It was a snake about three feet long. I immediately identified it as a non-poisonous snake, as it's head was not a big triangle and it's eyes were round and not slitted. I have never seen a pattern on the back of a snake like this, it was beautiful. Not being a snake expert, my best guess it is a Rat Snake or Chicken snake? Being new to the country, my wife wants me to kill every single snake around here. She is very afraid of them. Well, I can understand her fear of snakes, as many people fear them and consider them vermin. I have talked to her many times about the benefit of snakes, and they are not of the "Adam & Eve" variety. Snakes play a very important role in our ecology eating mice, rats and lizards. If it were not for the snakes, we might be over run with vermin and disease. If you remember your history, the "Black Plague" was caused by mice and rats harboring fleas with disease that bit humans and caused tens of millions of deaths. I've even ran across a few Water Moccasin's (Cotton Mouths) and Copper Heads the last few years on my property. They seen me and beat feet and were no danger. So... I left them be. However, had they been aggressive and not fled, I'd consider dispatching them as a threat to myself and family. I guess my point to this post is; next time you run across a snake on your property, please reconsider dispatching it. Mice and rats can and will generate disease, will cause you home and vehicle destruction as they will gnaw through anything including electrical wiring, I know about that first hand. Snakes serve a purpose in our environment as God intended. Please don't ever consider the phrase, "a good snake is a dead snake". Just my .02 cents guys and your mileage will vary.

  4. So I went home this weekend to do some things before coming back into TN for work on Monday. Along the way I stopped in KY for a latrine break and a milkshake. (Give me a break, I was tired and wanted empty calories) So as my lady approaches the door I spot the sign and sigh, saying "Stop" and turn back to the car. It took her a moment but when we get in the car I tell her what I saw: a gunbuster sign saying concealed weapons are not allowed on the premises or something very similar. So I pulled out and called the store where a nice lady answered the phone. I asked if she was the manager, she said yes, and I asked if it was a corporate or a privately owned store and she said private. I told her that well I would like very much for her to let her owner know that I was refused service at her store. She sounded very concerned when she asked where, when, why and was I still there. I told her know, I have drove away to take my business elsewhere and that it had just happened because of the sign on her door that prohibits me from entering with a legally concealed weapon. I went on to briefly inform her that I was a veteran of multiple tours overseas, and that I have decided to carry a weapon for my personal defense and that I was disappointed in their business for being posted which I respected, and would take my business elsewhere. She had her GM there and asked me to repeat it to her, which I did. The GM was another very nice lady and she listened and then said that she would like to keep my contact information because she would speak to her owner about it and he may want to contact me. I said that was fine and thanked her for passing along my concerns. She said she was sorry that I was disappointed with their store and we ended the call. I heard Mossad Ayoob say that he handled gun signs this way and I have thought about it for awhile. I feel that we as gun owners and lawful citizens that carry have a responsibility to ourselves, our children, our founders, and our country to express ourselves in a respectful way that allows folks to know that this is an issue, and that we take our business away when we are forced to. I think that many folks enjoy a false sense of security with the sign, thinking that a madman or robber will do what I did and leave upon seeing the sign. I also think that many just do not fully consider the issue before posting the sign (it looked very new and I wondered as I was leaving if it was posted after the tragedy in Colorado). My dad has handed out cards explaining why he was leaving, but to me that makes me flirt with the law to much. I am going to immediately depart upon knowing the owner's wises because that is their right as well. I have not heard anything (that was on a Sunday and it is now Monday morning) and am not sure I expect to. I do however hope that it will give the owner pause to consider the issue.

  6. I like Paul Ryan and think it's a good choice. He's a conservative maybe not from the South but more swing states are in the North. He will be severely attacked but then any pick would be. Limbaugh stated last week that the Democrats were running a campaign akin to "Political Terrorism". Interesting take. Could you say "Political Terrorism" took Palin out? Hope Romney takes the gloves off. Maybe after the Olympics are over with tonight. His answer to the "murder" attack was weak at best.

  9. From the perspective of Dem attacks, who was picked was inconsequential - the Democrats are going to spread lies, damn lies and outright rumors about whoever Romney picked. Ryan may be better equipped to fend then off than some others if only because he is used to doing so.

  10. I don't think so. It is not as if a program like that is unprecedented. Stuff like this goes on all the time, but there is better planning put into it. They just did a very poor job of implementing it. There were way better ways to go about doing it. I just think they didn't really think it through to consider the negative backlash it would have. Not that I don't believe that Obama and his ilk intend to push restrictive gun laws on us, I just don't think that every time Obama takes a dump it is because he is out to get us.

  15. We'll never probably know exactly how these picks come about. Rubio may well have simply turned it down, if he didn't honestly think they could win. Losing as veep candidate ain't a plus to winning if and when he runs for prez himself. I'm so glad it wasn't Christie. I'd have still have had to vote for them, but would have been even more distasteful. - OS

  19. I bought mine from JoeBob when RRA put out their "winter special" 16" middies, and got what I ordered delivered on time. He's running another special right now on RRA ARs that are mighty attractive price-wise with the TGO 5% discount. If I had time to shoot the first one enough, I'd consider getting another. The RRA 2 stage NM trigger is niiiiiiiiice.

  20. That notice has been up for months I believe, could be wrong. Either way whatever excuse they used it's not right just to put you off like that. I had a problem a month or so ago where a guy came in and bought a Palmetto AR from us. He got home and realized that the rifle he bought should have come with a flip-up rear sight that it did not have with it. Come to find out later the model he bought was supposed to be a flattop and not with sights, but we threw in the sight anyway. Why? Cause it's worth more than a flip up rear sight to us to have a happy customer, than a mad one. Word of mouth is far stronger than most people give it credit.
