I'm not a LEO, but I'd think that like anything it's a matter of how you handle it. There's a world of difference between these two scenarios: "Officer, thank you for getting here so fast. As I told 911, I've been involved in a self defense shooting. My holstered firearm is over there. Here's my driver's license and my handgun carry permit. As suggested in my HCP class I've contacted my attorney and he has advised me not to discuss this matter any further until I can confer with him." "I got nothing to say to you cops until I can talk to my lawyer!!!"4 points

Gimme a freakin' break. Since WHEN has ANY politician in the last decade truly "appeased" the citizens of his/her state? They go to the state capitol, or to DC, and then they vote the way they want to, or even according to their OWN convictions, or after receiving pressure or payoffs from lobbyists. Tell me that's not true.2 points

Mom was a teacher for nearly 30 years. She routinely spent 2-3x more on stuff for her classroom as she did for me and my sister. As for the mechanic analogy... Do you give away the tools you bought because someone else doesn't have one? Do you get paid overtime? Do you work 2-4 hrs every day at home for free? Do you spend nights and weekends at work related functions?2 points

This is a huge pet peeve of mine. We never pay the extra fees, out of pure principle. If the school district wants to allow the government, state or federal, to control them and their money then they are responsible for how it's (mis)managed. I feel the teachers are to blame for most of the problems in the schools. No one but the teachers can right the problems of the schools. Instead of complaining about this or that, do something about it. No paper? No problem, do recess all day long. Instead of striking for more pay, strike to have the funds properly utilized. I agree with Howler. Teachers always whine about parents not paying or suppling pencils and they have to spend 500.00 for it themselves. That sucks, yes. I'm a mechanic and have spent 25k+ on tools, just so I can fix your car. Almost a years pay, just to do my job. I don't whine. I could find something else to do for a living. No one forces me to be a mechanic, just like no one forces teachers to teach. Stop spending your own money and hold your bosses accountable or quit. Can you imagine what soldiers would do if we expected them to provide their own bullets? Quick story. Hazelwood elementary school, Clarksville. 3rd grade, beginning of the school year open house. Walked through the door and right into the PTO table. They were telling me about the fund raisers for the kids and blah, blah. Then they let it slip that the new parking lot was paid for with last years fund raiser money. I almost came unglued. So, ever since then we have not paid a penny outside of taxes. I only send stuff for my child to use, no extra because the teachers are using the extra supplies to teach socialism to the children. They preach how we have to take all the supplies and share with the less fortunate. They call it community property and explain how the extra brought by some goes to the some that have none. Sorry. Done ranting. Just gets under my skin. Why do we allow the schools to operate this way I don't know. The teachers have the power to change it if they would stop worrying about pay and parking lots. I thought they taught because they "love it". They knew the pay sucked when they chose that field.2 points

I started on this particular build prior to the shorty Frankengun, but just got it finished this afternoon. It started off with a stock I found at the County dump. I think it may be from a Cabelas sporterized Hawken, but I'm not sure. I pursuaded an Investarms lock into the mortice, without too much hassle, which leads me to believe it's a Lyman/Investarms/Cabelas gun. The Barrel is another .50cal T/C Hawken I picked up on EBay, minus sights, rib & nipple. I had the Lyman globe sight from another gun & fitted a Skinner rear peep. Track of the Wolf supplied a suitable under rib & thimbles. The trigger guard is a Lyman Trade rifle. I fitted this simply because it was the nearest thing I could find to the correct pattern, without having to do too much chisel work which, as we've already seen, is NOT my strongest talent! The trigger unit started as a double-set set I replaced with a Davis Deerslayer on my GPR. I removed the set trigger & all associated gubbins, stoned & polished it to within an inch of it's life (along with the lock internals) to produce a creep free, clean breaking, zero overtravel, 2 pound break. It took a little re-inletting & maneuvering of the trigger & guard to get everything lined up, so the trigger wasn't right at the front of the guard. That was actually the toughest part of the entire build! Again, please forgive my sloppy workmanship. Wood confuses me! I still need to blue the rib & thimbles too. Once again, the total out of pocket build cost (not including the parts I already had) came in a shade under $100 & from my few shots today, seems like it'll make a FINE gun for the range!1 point

With OPSEC in consideration; I was the convoy commander for a large portion of what you saw, which are organic and task organized elements of a Battlefield Surveillance Brigade. They (we) are participating in an exercise called Vibrant Response 13 Public Info: http://www.arnorth.army.mil/News/Vibrant-Response--13.aspx Or google for more. The route; 65/840/40/Briley/65 was a beast. Think of the logistics of moving 400+ vehicles and 1000s of troops over public roads...1 point

Do I give away my tools? Not only do I loan them out, I have given some away. Most people start with almost no tools. If I'm looking to upgrade occasionally one of the youngens gets a freebie. If you look close enough you will see I've given away a few things on this board. Do I get paid overtime? No, I work on flat rate. That means If there is nothing to work on I get paid $0. I have been at work all day and made less than $9 in an eight hour shift. Do the math. I've built a customer base that helps prevent this from happening, but it can happen. Do I work 2-4 hours every day at home for free? No, but have worked late and on weekends fixing cars for people passing through town. Also, you have no idea the labor given away to appease a customer. Labor is the one thing that can be given away that cost a shop zero dollars. The only one to take a hit is the mechanic. And on a side note, I work 5-6 days a week year round. Don't take this the wrong way, but teachers do not. Do I spend nights......No, I spend days each year (unpaid) taking training classes. None of which I enjoy. Next question! I asked that teachers buy their own pens. I didn't degrade the profession.1 point

Woe...is this Romney is no different/no better than Obama ever going to stop? Is it supposed to be news here that Romney isn't as pro-Second Amendment as Ted Nugent or doesn't fit the perfect pro 2A mold enthusiasts want? Do you really think that someone who signed an assault weapons ban for MA and supported a waiting period (which about EVERY politician did until the instant system went into effect) is as anti 2A rights as someone who actually voted against a citizen even being allowed to keep a weapon in his own home for defense? Obummer will sign ANY anti-second amendment legislation that hits his desk, Romney may or may not IF any reaches his desk. Obama will almost certainly PUSH for new 2A restrictions, I truly doubt Romney will (if only because trying to salvage our economy is going to be center stage for a long time). Even if 2A is the ONLY issue you care about, Romney is still the better choice even if the difference isn't as much as you want. However, I can't believe that 2A is the only issue important to people, even people on TGO and if it is, then I'd suggest you start digging some spider holes and ammo-cashes because with unending $Trillion deficits as far as the eye can see, 2A issues are going to be the least of our worries.1 point

Obamney 2012, whichever one wins is what we get. And personally, I think Obama is going to win it. Mitt has no personality and his best slogan is "at least I am not obama". Mit is competing with biden for open mouth, insert foot one liners as we head into the last couple of months. If Mitt's VP pick does not stir up some excitement, I think he will lose it.1 point

That 2-3 months off is more like 2-3 weeks. Between in-service, summer school, training classes, preparing for the next year, etc., it isn't much of a break. 60-70 hrs/wk for 9 months is still more total hours than 40 hrs/wk for 12 months. Mom never complained about the pay. She complained about the long hours, incompetent administrators, and useless parents.1 point

I pay property taxes and I buy my kids their own stuff. I know damn well that the majority of other parents do neither. They can pound sand if they think they're getting another dime out of me. I really do feel for the teachers, but it isn't my fault that the money is so mismanaged.1 point

Like anything else run by the government, schools are poorly run and money is managed just as poorly. Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapatalk 21 point

Depends on what's important to you. Accuracy: On paper the AR is more accurate than the Mini. Your mileage may vary, however. With iron sights I'm a better shot with my Mini than with my AR. Advantage: theoretically AR, but YMMV. After market accessories: There are quite a few accessories for the Mini - stocks, rails, rings, etc.., but nothing like the AR. The AR is the lego of the firearms world. Advantage: AR. Aesthetics: No contest. The Mini-14 can be dressed up to look like a tacticool black rifle just like the AR, but there's no way to make an AR look like a classic wood & steel rifle (the oddball wood furniture you can get for the AR hardly counts). Advantage: Mini-14. Magazines: There are huge numbers of inexpensive, reliable AR mags out there. Mags for the Mini-14 are significantly more expensive and anything other than factory Ruger mags are of questionable reliability. Advantage: AR. Reliability: Mini-14's are ridiculously reliable and will eat pretty much any ammo vaguely shaped like a .223 cartridge. AR's can be reliable, but can be much more picky about ammo. Advantage: Mini-14. Parts availability: You can order every single part that makes up an AR from many, many web sites. Ruger is one of those annoying companies that refuses to sell a lot of their parts to anyone. Need the part replaced? Ship your gun to them. Advantage: AR. It used to be that AR's were significantly more expensive, but that's no longer true. Advantage: Neither.1 point

I would like to hear an argument for Romney without mentioning Obama . And would like to hear why I should choose Romney over Johnson without saying , "Cant win" or Unelectable.1 point

I'm sure you can find more if you're really interested, but he accomplished quite a few of the very things most here claim we need as a country in his tiome as Governor of NM: Left office with New Mexico as one of the only four states in the country with a balanced budget Left New Mexico with a budget surplus Used Line Item Veto thousands of times to trim the budget Vetoed 750 bills during his time in office; more than all other governors combined Cut over 1,200 government jobs without firing anyone Created more than 20,000 new jobs First New Mexico Governor to challenge education status quo and propose statewide voucher program Restored State General Fund reserves to more than $222 million from a low of $28.1 million Limited annual state budget growth to 5.0% during eight years in office Cut taxes 14 times while never raising them—a first for New Mexico Vetoed 32% of the total number of bills submitted for his signature More here: http://www.garyjohnson2012.com/issues And for the record, I have no idea if I'll vote for him or not - just saying, he's certainly a lot closer to most of the expressed views here than Romney, though he has 'no chance'.1 point

I also hear that Tennessee is the "laughing stock of the country" because we are supposedly one of the states with lax gun control, but the only ones really saying that are the "enlightened" progressives, so it really doesn't mean anything. Usually, the ones who love to slam Palin hate her because she has strong conservative values. Says more about them than it does about her.1 point
