  1. $25 including the background check is a pretty good deal to be honest.

  2. This is another blow to industry, consumers and our economy. Approximately 50% of our energy comes from coal fired plants. But this isn't anything new, 20 years ago a family member had to install these scrubbers on the stacks at a tire plant where they worked. The cost was very high. TVA will be shutting down a large number of coal fired plants as part of a court settlement for violating the clean air act. Without the industry we use to have this cost will be put on the residential consumer. EPA, OSHA, etc. is staggering costs that foreign manufacturing doesn’t have. How can we be expected to be cost competitive on products when weren’t on equal ground on costs? I don’t know what the answer is, but I know we are in for an economic collapse unless we can get our manufacturing base back. I try to do my part by buying products that are made by American companies here. But those choices get smaller each year and the consensus seems to be that no one really cares where the products come from as long as they are cheap.

  3. I'm trying to see the practical application for this passed the "cool factor." First off, if you try to run that amount of ammo through an M4, the way the description reads, as a SAW you're going to have some big problems around the end of the second drum. There is a reason you have to change out barrels every so often on a MG. I don't see LEO or Military guys buying these up for use for a lot of reasons: 1. price; 2. potential mockery; 3. weight; 4. lack of practical application. Any organization that needs some kinda support by fire capability already has something that eats its ammo on a belt. Besides, with an MSRP of $1,000 I could just buy another AR and dual wield them the way they do in the movies. That's about as realistic as this drum is. Gay.

  4. Love 'em all you want, I prefer my relationships with bears to remain platonic. I remember the following "Bear Warning" that I first saw many years ago out West - doesn't necessarily apply to our area, but it's a good read nonetheless.

  6. I don't care if it was done 80 years ago or 10. Putting a nickel finish on a gun like that is blashemy. It has no collector value AFAIK. It' just another screwed up classic and wouldn't waste my time with it. On the other hand, S&W .45 revolvers are excellent handguns. If you want one just because of that then go for it and make sure it is priced accordingly, ie., much less than an original specimen.

  7. I have some ideas on how to fix the problem, but as you stated many people not only don’t understand our economy, they don’t understand manufacturing. They don’t know the difference between “manufactured†and “assembledâ€. How many times have you seen posted on forums that “manufacturing†jobs are filled with dolts that don’t have an education and deserve minimum wage? They know nothing about Engineers, Toolmakers, Moldmakers, Machinists, CNC programmers, Machine Tool Builders, Electronics Techs, and the list goes on and on. These are highly trained skilled trade jobs that are going overseas. Sure, we still provide the technology and they send their people to our colleges to be educated; but we don’t reap the financial rewards. If people throw up their hands and say it’s a “global economy†there is nothing we can do, or if they look for someone else to blame; they can always find something to throw out there. I’m just surprised at the number of people that couldn’t care less about their country and say they have to take care of their family. If the economy of your country fails; you have failed your family.

  8. +1 I worked at Wally World through high school as a cart pusher. You have a lot of interaction with those door greeters while doing that. I always enjoyed the conversations with the old folks because it always seemed that they had lived pretty interesting lives. Many were vets and I'm always interested in hearing history first hand. One thing most of them had in common was that they were retired and were looking for something to do. Most didn't need the money, they just didn't want to sit around all day waiting for illness or death. One old vet would donate his entire paycheck to a charity. There aren't any employers willing to hire the elderly, so Walmart was the logical choice. As I recall, they would check receipts for two things: date/time and items on the bottom of the cart. Many times people would forget that they had items on the bottom of their cart, and would forget to have the cashier ring it up. When I worked as a cashier there we had small mirrors opposite our registers to see if there was anything on the bottom. At least once a day there would be something a person wouldn't put on the belt and I'd have to remind them. It wasn't as if they were trying to steal, they just forgot. I've done this before as well. So I don't think that Walmart is trying to treat folks like criminals. Checking the timestamp on a receipt is a big deterrent for those that fill up a cart with several hundred dollars in merchandise and just walk out. It's no different than if you pay to get in somewhere that stamps your hand when you leave, they verify your stamp on reentry to make sure you paid. I don't get outraged that they would do that. They have no reason to take my word for it. I'm still surprised to hear about door greeters anyhow. There are 5 Walmarts in my area and none have had door greeters since Walmart did away with them last year. If they got them back I couldn't see me acting anyway but cordial with them.

  10. What they told my son at Boot was basically this (besides the follow through advice): If you have anyone at home that knows anything about shooting, they have likely told you to use the first pad of your finger on the trigger. Forget that. That is not the part of your finger that goes straight back. Use the second pad, the one after the first knuckle. THAT is the part of the finger that travels straight. I thought that was nuts, until I tried it. It made the biggest improvement in my shooting.

  13. after looking over the numbers of deaths/homicides via gun in USA which is in the 9-10K range it seems to me like banning guns is a waste of time ,the numbers a low !! Deaths via auto crashes were in the 50K range per year but the over whelming winner in all deaths per year is Heart Attacks with over 500k deaths a year I think the UN needs to go after McDonalds........That Clown has alone killed hundreds of thousands just by himself

  15. Yeah, the Chief should not have behaved the way he did. It was in mid 2008 IIRC, that I had enough of Wal Mart. After purchasing over $500 worth of items right next to the "greeter", w/ my 3yo boy in tow, having it take quite awhile to get all of the items rung up, bagged and carted, we made our way to the exit. At that point the greeter asked for my receipt and I politely stated "no thank you" and continued on my way. It is, or at least was at the time, policy for them to not harass you if you chose not to show the receipt as was explained to me by managers previously. Well this lady was a bit ambitious and continued to follow me and asking me to stop to which I again replied "no thank you" and continued out the door with my possessions I had just acquired. About 25' from the store, an elderly-ish female customer who was behind me began to yell at me, asking why I had just stolen all of that stuff. Ignoring her I made my way to my jeep and began loading the contents only to have her follow and continue to accuse me of theft, all the while dialing the police on her phone and telling me she was going to have me arrested. I chuckled, explained that I had purchased the items and politely asked her to please stop wrongfully accusing me of theft. Now, the whole time, my son is looking at me perplexed and asked why is this lady yelling. After I finished loading my goods into the jeep, with her still there trying to contact the PD, I attempted to depart only to have her try to block me from leaving. It was not difficult to maneuver around her, so I did so and drove down the road a piece. My son then asked what a thief is and at that point, I called my wife who also happened to be in town running errands to come get my son. Next, I proceeded back to Wal Mart, returned all of my items and explained to the Manager what had happened and that I would never be returning to Wal Mart and to date our family has not returned. Now folks may ask why. It seems to me that Wal Mart had created and was perpetuating an environment where everyone is guilty until proven innocent. It is certainly within their rights to create that environment on their property, I reckon, but it is also my right to protest it and know that I am not contributing to the slow deterioration of our society. In a capitalist society, it is my responsibility to vote with my wallet. I don't fly because of the TSA shenanigans and I don't shop at Wal Mart because of their's. Not that anyone cares, but that's my story.

  17. You could get something like this and run the cable around your seat frame or I would think you could mount it some how http://www.amazon.com/GunVault-NV300-NanoVault-Combination-Lock/dp/B003841ZBS/ref=sr_1_cc_1?s=aps&ie=UTF8&qid=1339125748&sr=1-1-catcorr

  18. There are clips, and then there are magazines. In any case, it should not damage either one to keep them loaded. Springs wear from being cycled, not from being compressed.
