Think numbers man. That rifle has high "Manly Factor" but can you shoot that all day? The fatigue would bad. I'm not a big rimfire fan at all but a rooftop zombie kit includes the following *(2) reasonably accurate, extremely reliable .22 rifles. *Dozen "bricks" of .22 ammunition *Coleman cooler with beer, water, some turkey sandwiches, BBQ chips and some twinkies *A large parasol, or umbrella and some sunscreen *Solar charged iPod with plenty tunes that make you happy.5 points

Seriously? A Rossi is a good gun, but a Smith and Wesson won't hold up? Where did you hear this? There was a problem; I believe reported much more often than happened, with the Model 19 K frames. The 110 and 125 grain screamers, after a while, were occasionally cracking forcing cones. They worked fine with heavier projectiles. An L or N frame Smith in 357 will shoot anything you put in it, and more than you'll ever care to buy or load. Heck, Smith and Wesson was the FIRST gun chambered for the 357 Mag. Jerry Miculek isn't shooting a Rossi.3 points

A third party will split the Republican vote. Neither will win. And this question is pretty moot in my opinion. People better swallow it and get behind Romney.1 point

This ain't pretty but it's a very accurate rifle. http://www.fnhusa.com/le/products/firearms/model.asp?gid=fng022&fid=fnf049&mid=FNM01371 point

Here's a real Abe Lincoln quote for ya': Maybe it isn't so bad that much of modern society's thinking is different from his. Oh, and a bonus quote from a letter written in 1862 to Horace Greeley, editor of the New York Tribune, by the 'Great Emancipator' showing how he really felt about emancipation, Lincoln stated: And he followed that up in reality. The Emancipation Proclamation did not free one, single slave. It only applied to slaves in states or portions of states that were still in rebellion (over which Lincoln and the U.S. government had no say at the time.) That would be like Obama signing a proclamation declaring that women in Syria are all now to be considered free and equal citizens - it meant nothing and its only purpose was to gain support for his side in the war. The Emancipation Proclamation left slaves in non-rebelling states or states/portions of states that had already been 'reclaimed' in slavery. But the Civil War was all about Lincoln freeing the slaves. Riiiiight. Sorry, the whole 'Lincoln was one of our greatest presidents' thing is a sore point with me. Every time I hear someone say that I want to vomit.1 point

If you are on a budget as you seem to be, you might look into the 6.5 Grendel on an AR-15 platform. Aside from the bolt, barrel, and magazine, it uses every other part in common with a normal AR-15. I have an AR-15 built up in this caliber and the accuracy and long-range energy are excellent. I recommend a 20" barrel to get the best performance from this cartridge. Out past 300 yards, the 6.5G has as much energy as the 7.62x51. The 6.5G has been used to hunt everything from bunnies to elk. There is nothing in Tennessee that is too large to hunt with it. JT has some excellent quality kits and rifles at good prices. That's where I got mine and it's been reliable and accurate. http://jtdistributing.net/store/kits_6_5_grendel.html Ammo is pretty reasonable. You can get excellent quality target ammo from Hornady ($22/box), and very good reloadable ammo from Wolf Gold ($13/box). Wolf will also be bringing in steel-case plinking ammo next month for about $8/box. Another advantage is that the AR-15 is the 'Swiss Army Knife' of firearms. You can get conversions to shoot a host of cartridges from cheap target practice with .22lr to the shoulder-bruising energy of the .50 Beowulf. Here's a link to get you started on calibers other than 5.56/.223 for the AR-15. http://www.ar15.com/forums/t_3_121/492215_AR15_Variants__Caliber_specific_FAQs.html A confusing thing about calibers is that many have more than one name, or names that are easily confused with other cartridges. Just as an example, the .308 cartridge you are interested in shooting is known as .308 Winchester, 7.62x51mm, 7.62NATO, 7.62 T65, 7.62 M80 (USGI), 7.62 F4 (Aussie), 7.62 L1A1 (Brit), etc. There are minor differences between the commercial .308 and military-spec 7.62 cartridges. For your purposes, they are irrelevant. Any rifle you are interested in can handle the higher pressures allowed with .308 ammo.1 point

Yeah, I would be happier with a 10/22 and a can. Bigger is not better. That is one of the things I am liking about The Walking Dead, they are showing the value is silent kills with melee weapons. A big bang just brings more walkers.1 point

Robert, you've already stated in another thread that we have no logic. It can only be inferred that you feel your logic is superior and thusly we are stupid. Let me put it this way. I look at a president and elected officials similar to a wife, as I will be stuck with the decision for some time. I didn't settle on an ugly woman I didn't like and I won't settle with who other people think has the best chance to get elected. Do as you please, but stop inferring that your logic is somehow above others or at the very least, if you do, stand behind the statement.1 point

Welcome to the board!. A BIG "NO". For the most part, in any semi-auto battle rifle chambered for 308 or 7.62 x 51/NATO (7.62 NATO is another name for 7.62 x 51), either is fine. BUT 7.62 x "anything else" cannot be used. They are totally different cartridges. There are MANY 7.62 x "Something elses" out there...so be aware that you will ONLY use "NATO" or "x 51"...or 308, of course. I don't know what you are calling a "high-end" AR-10, but I see good ones all the time for $900-1200, and I would prefer one of them over an M1A for what you are talking about. I have had a full sized M1A and the Socom model, and LOVED them both. But you can get a good AR-10 AND Optic for the price of an M1A. M1A's are much more limited as far as any customization you may want to do as well, and heavy...but they are excellent guns IMO and can serve you well. I now have a FN SCAR 17...and HOLY CRAP...I am in love. The price is up there with the high end AR-10's...but this thing is in a different league. Good luck with your purchase! Edited for welcome!1 point

Yep. I have Corrections officers that trade with us here at the shop. They'll tell you in a heartbeat, child offenders walk a fine line. Threaten to tell the population they prey on kids and they'll do anything you ask. I think there should be a memo passed out to all inmates with the name a picture of the person everytime a child offender goes in.1 point

Yuup...if people really dislike Romney that much or think he would be worse President than the Communist they they might as well cut to the chase and just vote for the Communist. As for me, even though I don't believe Romney is a Democrat of 20 years ago I'd still gladly take a Dem of 20 years ago over a communist any day of the week and twice of Sunday.1 point

Does the media give any libertarian ideas legitimacy? No they don't because it would hit the pocket books of the multi-nats that own them. Will Romney or Obama or whatever other puppet the left or right stand up do it? No they won't because it will hit the pocket books of those who allow them to be the front runners. One election? That's ripe. This aint my first rodeo. Every single time we go through this. I'm told to suck it up and eat the #### sandwich, only to watch my rights deteriorate and the jackass who I was told to vote for actually contributes. It gets old. See I am a swing voter. I am not tied to a party because I feel they are both out for themselves and the corps they are funded by. If anything the members of both parties behave in a fashion that actually drives me away in their quest to sway me. It's quite ironic. Vote for who you like. If your man is viable, he will get elected.1 point

More bold may help your point Robert. I predict the same thing will happen that always happens. If Romney gets elected his apologists will ignore his crappy policies which march us closer to fascism/socialism/communism/whatevernonfreedomism you want to call it and blame the woes on Obama and congress. If Obama wins his apologists will do the same. All the while the difference between policy will be so minuscule that it would take an electron microscope to determine it. While everyone argues about the stupid ass trivial items that are paraded around as being important, much like a shell game. I've seen this song and dance with every presidency and every congress since I've been alive and every election we are told to toe the party line. Have at it guys, if yall are confident your man will win, what's the problem?1 point

For all who don't like Romney or don't trust Romney or or believe he is not "conservative enough" (whatever that means), please tell me what candidate is running who... Is "Conservative enough", AND Who you DO trust, AND Who you do like, AND Can actually win the election (and when I win I don't mean win based on wishful thinking or "if only" this or "if only" that; I mean show me how this mystery candidate can win based on a logical argument substantiated by independent evidence. I don't see that candidate running this cycle...maybe I missed him or her so maybe you can show me why I'm wrong for thinking that Mit Romney is our BEST chance at getting rid of the communist we currently have in office or at least explain how having Romney in office isn't about ONE MILLION TIMES BETTER than the communist in office who, by his own words and born out by his actions wants to "fundamentally transform America"?1 point

its a 2 party thing and thats probably not gonna change very soon , so if you vote for the 3rd party man you are looking for weakness in the 1st and 2nd parties voting base but if only one of the 1st or 2nd parties voters show a vote of support for the 3rd party then the only accomplishment of the 3rd was to hand victory to either opponent but not win himself thats why with the 2 party system you have left leaning or right leaning canidates within each party and it is all about the money in the end Im not saying its right but Im not falling for the 3rd party utopian promise either1 point

Yup. Lincoln gets lots of love but he wasn't worth the $5 bill he haunts. He just proved that big government rules over independent thought. I have more respect for Lincoln as a Vampire hunter than his accomplishments as a president.1 point

Mitt ain't a RINO. He's right in the middle of mainstream GOP reality. Matter of fact, most all the folks accused of being RINOs, aren't. At one time, sure, but not now -- they're right in the party bell curve norm. Anything right of them is the fringe party element. Which as I predicted is being absorbed and diluted. It's a reflection of the actual voting citizenry. Mitt is about as conservative a prez that will have a chance to be elected for some time, maybe ever -- until we have undergone the inevitable society wide Big Pain. - OS1 point
