  1. Hey guys, As you know I am doing a photo series on firearm culture... This last week I shot some images of our own Charlie Haffner... figured you all would be interested in seeing them. I am really proud of them. Check'em out here: http://www.theaaronshapiro.com/blog/2012/6/25/charlie.html

  2. I don't believe anyone is smart enough to pull that off or dumb enough to in the case of Roberts. I don't care what the Republicans are saying about it, he failed in his decision. Besides what does he have to gain from this? They have their own healthcare and could care less about what happens to us, the citizens. It's all a giant game to them to see who can get away with what.

  3. Had I control of the reins of the republican party, and was facing the upcoming election, I would have done my best to induce Roberts to make the ruling that he did. As bright as Roberts has been in his rulings until the present, this departure from what one would imagine his take to be is astounding, so much so that an ulterior motive MUST be the only answer. Had the ACA been struck down, it would have removed Health Care as a factor in the campaign, forcing Romney to bring forth a strong position of some type to differentiate him from Obama. Now there is a simple distinction, one candidate running on having instituted the largest tax and most egregious imposition of force by government on the individual citizen ever, and a professor of being against said enforcement. A multitude of similarities between the two candidates can be disregarded by the simple notion that Romney opposes the Health Care proposal. Pretty shrewd if you ask me. That our ability to seek care for our loved ones (and self) is being used as chips in the poker game of politics is immaterial to those who love power, is worthy of note.

  4. With all due respect, I'm totally against any sort of social welfare paid for by the tax payer, period. It diminishes the ability of parents to provide for their own families. Our founding founders and government grappled with this same question many times. Many war veteran hero's gave their last measure of self to our country and left their families destitute by their sacrifice. Some leaders and a part of Congress wanted to give war widows and their children some relief in the form of a very small pension. When up for a vote in Congress it was re-soundly defeated. However noble and compassionate the cause, they realized it was immoral to seize another mans labor to distribute it to another. Sure, many people have needed a helping hand sometime in their lives. Prior to FDR and LBJ you had family, church, neighbors and friends to temporally assist during rough times. It appears it worked well, and society was much more civil and appreciative for it. I don't want to parse words but, what really gets my goat these days... I worked 42 years in my life and paid tens of thousands of dollars into my Federal retirement, and they call it my benefit. When you receive food stamps, Section 8, welfare, etc., it's called an ENTITLEMENT, go figure? Just the way I look at the world.

  5. I heard this argument yesterday from some in the right wing intelligentsia as to put a positive spin on the outcome. Sorry, but I ain't buying it. There was absolutely nothing good about this ruling. The precedent Roberts has now established is cringe-worthy. Does anyone honestly think that the average Joe is going to discern all the political arguments and legaleze of "tax" versus "penalty?" Obama and his team will come out and spin their victory by claiming that while Roberts was right on the constitutionality of ACA, he was wrong on the language; it is not a tax. The media will also provide cover for Obama the entire time by totally ignoring Robert's "tax" argument, and focus solely on the constitutionality of the law. There is an additional element to consider. ACA has not been fully implemented yet. Parts of it are still some ethereal concept. A lot of people will not realize how bad and how expensive it is going to be since they have not yet had to endure the full force of the ACA.

  6. Reconciliation is not required. Budgets only require 51 votes, not 60. Still, even if the Senate manages to go Republican, they will need an even greater majority to account for Republicans who become weak in the knees when it actually comes time for repeal. I am not optimistic about it. Hopefully I am wrong. It does happen from time to time If we get really lucky and Obamacare is repealed, the worry then becomes what will it be replaced with. You know the Republicans are going to do something. Remember all of the TARP crap? The first attempt was a crap sandwich, and a lot of the politicians complained about it. The second attempt which was given bipartisan support ended up being worse than the first.

  7. Watching TV, reading the newspaper and observing everyday life, I have come to the conclusion people are not as moral as they were back in my day. This old fart thinks morality, as a civilization, is a thing of the past. I believe morality is the single most important thing that separates us from the apes and animals, save our own souls. So.... What is morality? Who defines it? Where did it come from? Why can't governments legislate morality? Who's to say what's moral and what is not? When do moral values change, and who says so and why? No one can disagree moral values change every year based on Supreme Court rulings, TV programing, video games, etc. etc. With vicious crimes exponentially increasing and our American civilization in decay, would we as a nation, have lost our moral compass? Where does it end, if there is an end? Sodom & Gomorrah? Just some of my life long observations and food for thought.. What do you think?

  14. Your video is encouraging but the problem is that our government doesn't live in reality. As of now our best hope is with voting in Romney, and since you feel there is no difference between the dictator and the business man, you really shouldn't care.

  16. Our current racial dilemma presents so many social disparities for the other than "Black" races. When will either the local or federal governments respond to this? Whites being beaten indiscriminately and no repercussions and the constant threats - what are we thinking; it's just going to die out. It comes to a point when words are like seeds, they take root with people especially in times like these with high unemployment, 1 in 7 persons on some form of government support, etc... Does it make it okay because they're black and angry at an injustice of so long ago? It seems that we as a white society are powerless when it comes to addressing real threats in the community, we just give it the brush off and label it as okay because the majority of society is to politically correct and soft. If I expressed such blatant murderous sentiments towards another race I would torched by the media and surely suffer severe personal loss. Screw this I just sent in a complaint to the DOJ. Let them come, let them act - if those we've elected as representatives will not act I'll show them the prettiest crimson color there is. http://www.justice.gov/contact-us.html

  21. Commentators today talking about since the "reconciliation" thing was used to pass the final version of it, would only take the same ploy to repeal it, or at least remove all fiscal details from it, essentially rendering it a toothless shark. As little as I understand all that, budgetary bills passed by reconciliation process only take 51 votes. - OS

  22. Don't try to put words in my mouth. I differentiate between minor children and adult children. We all try to raise our children with wisdom and good advice, and a little punishment when it's deserved. When they reach adulthood, we hope they've also reached maturity and learned something along the way. I don't believe in coercing adults into behavior they don't want. I don't like to see homeless people sleeping in the streets, druggies wasting away from their habits, and criminals in striped suits picking up trash along the highway, but it's all a result of the sum of choices they've made in their lives -- make good choices and good things happen -- make bad choices and bad things happen. I'm willing to leave them to their results. It's called Liberty.

  26. Well, it mainly shows that elections have consequences. The opposite of the "makes no diff who's in office" sentiment. ObamaCare was passed with a duly elected majority of House and Senate supporting it. The People sent those reps and senators there, and theoretically, they did the will of their constituencies. As far as Roberts, part of his philosophy is to find a way to allow the will of the people to prevail through finding a way to allow laws coming from the Hill to constitutionally prevail if at all possible. It is very likely that had ObamaCare been passed with the "individual mandate" defined as a "tax" instead of "penalty", the SCOTUS would never have even heard it. The one thing that folks are underestimating is the Medicaid part that was thrown out: it is going to have some very decisive effects on the states and consequently back on the feds as the states react and don't or simply can not comply. At any rate, I'll say it again: ObamaCare passed under the 111th Congress. It would not have passed under the 112th. Whether the US eventually becomes a failed state under either party is an extended debate. However, in real time, elections have consequences. And though it's a different tack on the topic, the decision today may in an ironic way be quite the boon for the GOP this Nov. ObamaCare alone was certainly a big reason the GOP made historic gains in Congress in the midterm elections, so we'll see. - OS

What's strange marketing wise is that companies keep making a serrated option for some model, then a year or two later those always glut the market and are cheaper than plain edge, because they simply didn't sell. - OS

It really doesn't matter how healthy you are - one shot to the right spot with the right force can knock anyone out temporarily, which is all it takes to fall and strike your head on something hard enough to kill you. I can handle myself, but if someone attacks me I'm not waiting to see if they're armed or are able to beat me down.
