I'm curious about the mechanics of granting or not granting bail. I suppose it varies from jurisdiction to jurisdiction but I always thought, apparently incorrectly, that setting bail was a decision based principally on the risk of the accused fleeing the jurisdiction with consideration also given to the seriousness of the charges. I thought that the "ability" of the person to come with the bond would be a minor consideration if it was considered at all. Even if a judge is going to consider the financial status of the accused in setting the bail amount it just doesn't seem correct to me to include donations to the accused's defense fund as part of his assets...those funds are needed to pay for his defense; not his bail. I understand that part of the problem is that the Zimmermans were allegedly "hiding" the assets...I also know that perjury is perjury and if his wife actually lied she can be charged. At the same time, it certainly wasn't a secret that there were getting donations through the website set up for that purpose (and its existence/purpose was widely reported) - were I in Zimmerman's shoes and facing all this and I was asked about my financial assets, I doubt I'd consider donations coming in or hoped for as part of my "assets" either. I guess I'd be wrong. Of course, this whole thing is, in my opinion, a witch hunt perpetrated by a bunch of gutless politicians to placate a group of racists which makes all this collateral damage all the more distasteful.4 points

The point is; I don't believe the court has that authority (nor should it) to confiscate Zimmerman's money and I'm a little surprised that anyone would suggest that; especially on a forum where people tend to be pretty supportive of things like "due process" and "private property". There is this concept called "innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt" and last I heard, we are long way from Zimmerman being found guilty of anything. Unless or until he is found guilty, his money is his damn money, not anyone else's. Perhaps just as important, money donated to Zimmerman's defense should be used for Zimmerman's defense (or refunded to those who donated the money if it isn't used for his defense); not used to enrich Travon's family. And as far as the civil suit you allude to, for a civil suite to be successful in Florida (just like in Tennessee) Zimmerman would have to be found guilty of this ridiculous murder charge (shooting ruled not justified) for a suit to be successful. I think that paying the PowerBall is probably better odds than Zimmerman being found guilty of murder.2 points

Point is...if our boy wasn't geting all this money, and was "broke"...his lawyer would be free! The court should take all his money, put it in a trust fund for his 1.5 million civil suit that Tryvon's parents are gonna file. Are you still sleeping? Dave2 points

I was very un-aware that bail had anything at all to do with how much money you have. I thought it more to do with the crime you commited and your past criminal history. Well, good luck "Z".....You are apparently a liar...as an "Honorable" Judge has "fixed your wagon"....and your wife is next!!! Dave (931)802-21382 points

It looks like they are trying to ride the line between keeping the liberals happy and keeping the conservatives happy, all while keeping their votes. If anything they should be voted out for trying to play both sides, since they obviously can't make an honest decision.2 points

In the state of Florida, as well as almost anywhere else, he can be found NOT GUILTY of 2nd Degree murder, and still be judged against in civil court for damages for wrongful death. It happens all the time. If you want my personal take on this? Z needs to stay locked up! I think too many people sided with Z because he has an HCP!!! What if it were the other way around? What if Z was black and Martin was white...what would your take be then? I'm not making this a race issue, but too many of ya'll think "Z" is a cool breeze for killing this kid. What if Trayvon had cracked open Z's head like a walnut, killed him, then told the cops he was in fear of his life. Would ya'll still hold your opinions as you do now, that "Z" is the victim here? Everyone has tunnel vision here! I mean for God's sakes, this kid was minding his own business, walking home from the store...now he's dead by the actions of another! Those facts cannot be overlooked!1 point

I suggest you go trade your 26 in for a 19. After you add a magazine extension, you have a gun with a shorter barrel, lower capacity and the grip length of a g19. Just my .02 cents1 point

Probably goes along the lines of... The guy didn't care about illegally crossing the border of and entering a sovereign nation, so he has already established his disdain for law, and thus it should be no surprise that he would act stupidly in other decisions and aspects of life. Something like that. If that doesn't float your boat, then...what mikegideon said.1 point

Very, IMHO. First clue should have been when he didn't prosecute Black Panthers for obvious, recorded voter intimidation; second clue is that he has now sued 1/3 of the states in the union over one thing or another on which he believes the Naked King should not be challenged. With other politically partisan mischief sprinkled in, noticeably lately for running around and stirring up black groups with claims of how the GOP is attempting to keep them from voting and whatnot. - OS1 point

Holder isn't going to allow an independent counsel to investigate this. Funny that there was an independent counsel to investigate the Valerie Plame leak, which is small potatoes compared to this. I'm jumping on the "Holder is a crook" bandwagon. I know I'm late to the game on that.1 point

Wished you lived closer man, I cast a Lyman 358429 that drops around 160g. It's a keith style bullet and it would probably run well in that little rifle. They work better in .38 special though. You get length issues with .357.1 point

I am sure when the shooting starts those in the back will just run. They are only there for moral support for their cause, they won't stick around to be shot or arrested. Can the Investigators give an example of a carjacking that went right? The only one I can image is if the car was fully of HCP carriers and lead exited the car and only hit the intended target.1 point

US knife laws make gun laws look logical and consistent by comparison. First of all, only a very few states have their knife laws preempted from local tweaks. Everyone who cares enough to belong to NRA should also belong to Knife Rights. They're in ongoing battle with NYC right now. - OS1 point

I get that "ignorance of the law is no excuse" and all. I wouldn't have thought twice about a knife with a blade under 4". So, I'd have been right there with him. There's too many states, cities/municipalities for a traveller to know the laws everywhere they go. Makes me glad I prefer to just stay home.1 point

If you don't want to leave a package in an "iffy location", leave a note for the person with contact information/other delivery or pick up times - don't cut open a package to see whats inside. If there is obvious damage from previous mishandling, you don't cut open a package. You should kick it back to the previous destination/sorting facility/alert a manager while documenting the visible damage to the box. I didn't know the driver of a van could cut open a package to see what's inside so he could determine if he felt like making the trip or not. Is that in the TOS? When I pay a company to deliver my package, can any random employee cut open the package to see what is inside to satisfy curiosity, a hunch, or a whim? Am I missing that fine print? You can try and justify it any way you want, it's wrong. I'm glad you don't cut open random packages deliver packages anymore.1 point

I don't get it, a college aged kid was arrested for simply possessing a pocket knife in his pocket? OMFG imagine the terror if he had also been sipping on a 64 oz Big Gulp full of soda & eating a greasy bacon double cheese burger along with over-salted french fries fried in trans-fats!1 point

No knocks warrants are used for everything now. And that comes from the departments trying to justify the existence and additional costs of having full time SWAT officers. I am also sure there is some sort of additional federal funding if the departments are doing a lot of "high risk" entries. I don't think that this is going to curb the liberal use of no knock warrants but I do belive it will make the officer exercise due dilligence in their research and planning of the operation. I would also like the laws to go a bit farther and allow someone who has been wronged to sue the officer(s) personally and not the department. Afterall if a person sues the department and wins then it is the citizens of the county that pays, not the officers that are actually responsible. Also, make it illegal for public funds to be used to defend an officer accused of committing a crime while on duty. An officer will think twice about abusing others if the victim might win a judgement against them and take everything they own. No knocks should only be justified in those cases where they can prove a felony has been committed and the suspect has a history of violence. We have all read about a full blown military operation against a person who bought some marijuana from a CI. If they are worried about a suspect flushing evidence turn the water off 12 hours prior to the knock on the door. By that time there is not going to be any water left in any toilets and most suspects are not going to put 2 and 2 together. Dolomite1 point
