To bad the bad guy died quickly. I can think of a lot slower ways to die that would be more fitting for scum like this. Hopefully because the girl is so young she will be able to get past what has happened. Probably the best thing for her is for everyone else to never mention it again in her presence so maybe the memory will fade with time. And for that dad, good going. I know he is having to deal with taking a life but hopefully he realizes by doing so he saved his daughter from further abuse as well other children. His actions are how all child abuses should be dealt with. Dolomite3 points

Her talking in code in the jail house conversation will be what hangs her. It shows she had knowledge of the funds and was trying to hide them. His attorneys have pretty much admitted to that. If they want to charge her with perjury; that’s fine. But I don’t think they should have revoked his bond. He is not a flight risk, but credible threats have been made on his life by hate groups. Keeping him in jail is reckless and unnecessary. They are putting him on trial because he shot a kid to death that it appears was only reacting to a situation Zimmerman sat in motion. If Zimmerman can justify his actions that’s fine, but he’s going to need to do it in front of a jury. I haven’t lived in Florida in a long time and haven’t kept up on their laws, and I am not a politician with political aspirations; but if I were the DA I would charge him. It only appears that they are “Going after him†because they have to make up for the first DA not doing his job.2 points

Like a lot of people here I've had dangerous jobs before. When you're on a job and there are potential dangers there are always safety procedures that you follow. Those procedures are in place for good reason... to keep you from being injured or killed. Some of the jobs I've done would have three or four pages of checks to go through before work could begin and then constant monitoring while anyone was working. A zoo keeper isn't going to go into the gorilla house without double or triple checking to make sure all safety procedures have been followed. LEOs in Indiana better make sure they've checked everything twice before kicking in that door. The street name and house number would be a good place to start.2 points

Everything is Quid pro quo now. Police can shoot citizens, citizens can shoot police. Maybe both had better be a little more cautious in what they do then. Making sure you're raiding the correct house could save a lot of lives, including your own.2 points

Fighting Pistol Class Tactical Response Camden, TN June 2/3, 2012 Instructors: Jay, Chester, Steve, David, Kayla All the instructors were very professional and extremely knowledgeable. It was very evident that they all practiced what they were preaching. That was very comforting to me. I have nothing but good things to say about them all. The class attendees consisted of a variety of occupations such as policeman, fireman, lawyers, mechanics, security contractors, engineers, students, musicians, doctors and businessmen. Men and women whose ages varied from late 50’s down to 14. Everyone got along and enjoyed each other’s company and always ready to lend a helping hand. I recommend attending any cook outs, meals or gatherings that are offered. The Fighting Pistol class itself was outstanding. It was the perfect mix of technical explanations broken down to dumb-ass terms that I could grasp and hands on application of the techniques. We all met up at the gear store at 0900 and started promptly. Short roll call and introductions at the beginning then straight to the safety rules and medical personnel identification. Before we knew it, we were off to the range. I’m not going to spend lots of time explaining the training and instruction that was given (take the class!). My past experience is like many others. I grew up around guns, hunting and shooting all the time. I spent six years in the Army. I thought I was confident and fairly familiar with handling weapons. I was sadly mistaken. I quickly realized that I didn’t know jack squat and was completely unprepared to handle a weapon in a proficient manner. The training was laid out so that a common, less than intelligent man such as me can grasp and comprehend the information the first time. I rarely had to ask a question for further explanation about the task they were trying to teach. When I did ask a question it was answered right away and I never felt like the instructors thought my questions were stupid or silly or a waste of time. The training taught from start to finish was as if I was learning how to walk all over again. They walked you through each step until you were running and jumping and rolling around. Do not think you are going to get away with doing it wrong too. There are eyes on you almost all the time. They catch things you are doing wrong and correct you right away and sternly. I like the way they are trying to keep the stress level up for us all. Twenty eight students split into two relays of fourteen. One relay ran at a time so five instructors for fourteen people. Perfect ratio for catching things you are doing wrong. Gear-bring it all, it’s on the list for a reason. Make sure it is not broken. Be prepared. Have your magazines loaded and for God’s sake……BRING YOUR GUN AND HAVE IT LOADED!!! You wouldn’t go to work without your tools of the trade. Don’t show up at a gun class without a gun loaded and ready to go. Sounds simple I know. You will be surprised how many folks are not prepared. I was using my daily carry S&W M&P .40 compact with a Don Hume J.I.T. Slide holster at 330-4 o’clock position. I was using Aguila ammo FMJ 180 grain. The gun ran flawlessly and shot like a dream. I had the required five magazines with pinky extenders (factory S&W). I carried two magazines on my weak side in a single Blackhawk! double magazine holder. I kept my last two magazines in my pants (Vertx) pockets and during training I would transfer those magazines into the mag holder when it was empty. My belt was a Galco instructor’s belt 1.5 inch double thickness reinforced. Bring sunglasses and a ball cap. Expect to take some rib jabbing if you’re not running a Glock 9MM, or a 9MM of any make. I was told I was compensating for a shortcoming in other areas. Kayla will be sure to let you know what she thinks about that for sure. I do have to say this. The only guns that were having problems were NOT made by S&W or Glock. After shooting for two days, that became very obvious. Will I take this or any other classes from Tactical Response at Camden again? Absolutely. I have made a list of which ones already. I highly recommend this training to beginners and so called “expertsâ€. The thing that impressed me the most was the adult environment and setting of the class. They treated you like a grown adult that is responsible to handle a firearm. There was no safety nazi’s screaming about this or that. They laid out the four rules of safety with a firearm. Honestly, they are the only four you really ever need to follow. They didn’t waste time treating you like a fool with a gun like a lot of training classes or ranges do. I love the “an unloaded gun is a dangerous gun†philosophy. It will be hard to be around a safety nazi from this time forward. For any nay-sayers out there that wants to cry and whine about their safety procedures…..1.) TAKE the class then whine!! Don’t whine about something you have not experienced. 2.) Tactical Response has trained over 15,000 students and has had 0 accidents. ZERO. That is impressive to me. Think about all the schools and workplaces that can’t go one week without someone getting hurt. Thank you for what you do Tactical Response. I will return. www.TacticalResponse.com1 point

I had the pleasure of meeting one of the survivors of the USS Indianapolis of WW2 fame today. On June 30th 1945 a Japanese sub sunk the Indianapolis leaving the surviving crew of 900 (out of the original 1196) floating in the Pacific in shark infested waters. After almost five days only 317 men survived. I was truely humbled to meet such a man. Words cannot express the respect I have for him and those that served, and currently serve, in our armed forces.1 point

Coming home last night. As I approach my street I see a Box Turtle in the middle of the road. Not sure where he thinks he is going but I stop and decide I was going to pick him up and move him to safety. He had other ideas. Usually when I have approached a box turtle they go in their shell, not this one. He turned around and started scampering back from where he came. I baby stepped behind him and he kept moving until he got in yard where he stopped lifted his head all the way up, looked around and kept moving. Not sure which is funnier the box turtle acting like a pet or me baby stepping behind him while he does the turtle's version of scampering. LOL1 point

No knocks warrants are used for everything now. And that comes from the departments trying to justify the existence and additional costs of having full time SWAT officers. I am also sure there is some sort of additional federal funding if the departments are doing a lot of "high risk" entries. I don't think that this is going to curb the liberal use of no knock warrants but I do belive it will make the officer exercise due dilligence in their research and planning of the operation. I would also like the laws to go a bit farther and allow someone who has been wronged to sue the officer(s) personally and not the department. Afterall if a person sues the department and wins then it is the citizens of the county that pays, not the officers that are actually responsible. Also, make it illegal for public funds to be used to defend an officer accused of committing a crime while on duty. An officer will think twice about abusing others if the victim might win a judgement against them and take everything they own. No knocks should only be justified in those cases where they can prove a felony has been committed and the suspect has a history of violence. We have all read about a full blown military operation against a person who bought some marijuana from a CI. If they are worried about a suspect flushing evidence turn the water off 12 hours prior to the knock on the door. By that time there is not going to be any water left in any toilets and most suspects are not going to put 2 and 2 together. Dolomite1 point

We don't know all the evidence the prosecution has. On the surface it would look like manslaughter, but for all we know Zimmerman could have made a comment days before to an associate the he's gonna shoot the next punk he catches. Something like that would put him in the Murder 2 category. The follow up investigation was surely more in depth than the first; who knows what kind of evidence it turned up. Either that or they did what they often do which is trump up the charge, which I agree isn't right. I'm a reformed Floridian who used to live a quarter mile from where this happened. From conversations with my father who is an LEO working out of Sanford, the opinions of him and his colleagues is that this guy is that Zimmerman committed manslaughter. That is independent of all the media lies and Al and Jesse involvement. They have no love for either amongst that community.1 point

Well, the governor is a carpet bagger. The state prosecutor is evil. I think that's why Dershowitz is doing his best to slap the taste out of her mouth.1 point
-
She may have lied, difficult to say really...if she truly lied then the charge is appropriate (the fact that sitting Presidents don't do jail time for perjury notwithstanding). It could also be she never considered "donations" coming in through a website as something she/he would have considered "their money" in terms of assets for purposes of getting a bond approved. I certainly don't consider the Zimmerman's as people of means just because people are donating toe their legal expenses - whether the charges are justified or not, the legal expenses are going to be huge which is what the donations are for; it's not like they are pocketing the donations and taking vacations with the money. Anyway; since the time this "state prosecutor" got involved this mess has smelled like"Duke Lacrosse Team 2" and it still smells that way now. I fully expect that when all the dust has settled, the only people in jail will be those who went after the Zimmerman.1 point

This may stir up a hornet's nest; but i cant help thinking about it a bit. The big question that i have in all this is why would the State of Florida go so far out of it's way to thrash a man like George Zimmerman? I understand the problems with the "lying and hiding assets"; but the rest of this thing looks bizarre to me (...based on the evidence we know about...). Why in the world is the State of Florida going so far out of it's way to charge George Zimmerman and drag him through the court system on a murder charge? It appears to me like this whole thing smacks of post civil war reconstruction politics. Is the black and nutty anti-gun and anti "shoot the thug" vote so important in florida that this is an attempt to asuage their indignation and buy their support; or are the state politicos so arrogant that they think that they can kick around most anyone they want to with impunity? I would love to hear from some of our brother and sister opiners who understand florida politics. I believe this one is purely political. It aint about "justice for trayvon" or justice for the citizens of the state of florida; its about something else. I would love to hear what some of our folks with ties to florida think that "something else" is. leroy1 point

As far as these "no knock" warrants are concerned, there's an easy solution that will serve you well in other ways also. SECURE YOUR HOME! There's a lot a hollywood BS as far as door breaching is concerned. Door breaching rounds only work IF they know where the hinges and locks are. Get creative! That little two man ram you see in the movies will not knock down a properly secured security door. And even if it could, it would take several licks thereby negating the "NO KNOCK" part. Double pane storm windows, high off the ground as possible. Lot's of lighting and a camera set up too. If they were to mistakenly come here, 911 would get a call long before they get in.....well provided I'm actually IN for the night.1 point

+1 When I was a cop in Florida, I was working day shift and rolled up on a big traffic jam on one of our main 4 lane highways through the city. I worked my way up to the front and found that a big ol' snapping turtle, probably a couple feet long, was camped in the middle of the inside lane with no intention of moving along. I did my best to assist that darn thing and it hissed and snapped at me a few times. I ended up letting him take a bite out of my ASP baton and then drug him to the side of the road. He finally let my baton go. I left after traffic started flowing and couldn't have cared less if that thing ended up as roadkill from that point on.1 point

About 9 or 10 years ago, my wife and I were dating and we'd been to see some live music in the old city. It was smoke-filled and I hate smoke so I really wanted some orange juice when we left to make my throat feel better. Probably around midnight on a Friday or Saturday night, I pulled into the Weigals in question to get some juice and when I got back to the car my, then GF, now Wife, asked me if I was crazy and asked me never to leave her in the car at that Weigels again. I told her she was paranoid. The next day on the news we saw there had been a fatal shooting at that Weigels. I still stop in there from time to time if I'm by myself. I wouldn't take my wife or kids there, even during the day. After practicing law for several years I am much more aware of all the, um, interesting transactions that go on all around us. I still wouldn't open carry to deter problems. I just don't like the attention. I'm convinced there are better ways to avoid looking an easy target without the attention of open carrying. Keep your head on a swivel, make eye contact, look like your there to get something done... Just don't carry yourself like you are the kind of person who's going to be intimidated or fall for a line of B.S.1 point

Wow, you had more damage than I did without a doubt. I can't imagine what you have had to endure and it sounds like you are still postitive despite all that has happened. I think the biggest part of healing is keeping a postitive attitude as much as you can. I know the year after my accident I got pretty down. I had went from ~195 pounds down to 147 pounds. My injuries are mostly nerve damage and a little bit of damage to hard structures. I wish mine would have been more hard structures and less nerve damage. Hard structures heal with time but nerve damage tends to take a bit longer to heal if it ever does. Your injuries are, without a doubt, some of the worst I have ever seen. It has been 4 years since the helicopter accident and the doctors say I am about as good as I am going to get. I walk with crutches and will for the rest of my life. I use them mostly to keep me from falling but they also help me stay on my feet longer. Without them I get about 20 minutes on my feet before my legs go numb and I start to stumble. With the crutches it stretches that out to about 45 minutes. Sitting causes me the most problems, probably because I was seated during crash. For me going from a seated position to standing postition is very painful. Because of the nerve damage I also piss on myself daily and have other issues. I can't ride in a car for very long before it becomes unbearable. I, just like you I am sure, have good days and bad days. On good days I am almost normal but on bad days I literally curl up in a ball and never leave the bed. I get a good day a day or two a week then a few mediocre days then a few miserable days. I walk like an old man, taking guarded steps. My wife helps me get dressed regularly as well as helps me with getting in and out of the bath. She is always by my side and has to drive me most places I go. And without her I would have given up a long time ago. She has been my rock and never gave up on me and for that I will always be thankful to her. I wish you well in your healing and if you ever feel like talking send me a PM and I will give you my number. I know there were times when talking to people helped me out of a slump. Or if you ever make it to Knoxville we can grab lunch or hit a local range. Dolomite1 point

have almost 11 pounds of rods, plates and screws holding me together. I had so many broken bones that they didn't find one severe one until 2 months after my accident. This xray was taken in July, and my accident was back in May. The therapist kept telling me that the pain was normal when I said there was something wrong with my arm... Unfortunately I listened to her advice instead of talking to the surgeon again. here's my hip This is the stuff that was in that xray, they had to remove it and install different parts because they were incorrectly installed and were the wrong degree of angle knee lower leg femur So.. yep, I'm technically "disabled" but I usually don't even mention it to anyone because people start thinking that they need to cater to your needs and stuff (they usually just think I had knee surgery or something light since I walk with a cane). I may have to work twice as hard now, but can still pump out the same amount of work as before the accident. Before this I never understood how people like David's friend could do what he does, but after being in the situation you understand that giving up and going on a pity fest is just not an option that would even be remotely considered. If anything, it causes subconscious dedication to show everyone that you can do it just so they don't think differently of you.1 point

It's pretty damn easy to judge someone and what they did when you weren't there. Most of what has been passed around on internet forums about this incident has about as much substance (and is about as useful) as fairy dust. I'm also wonder why some, as early as the third post, feel the need to step all over another person's thread and bring up a subject that has ZERO to do with the OP's thread - if people want to dump on James Yeager maybe they ought to start their own thread.1 point

Moras are excellent knives! They have just come out with two new models the Light My Fire and the Robust. The Light My Fire has a fire steel that fits in the grip made by Light My Fire. The Robust is the first Mora with a blade that is 1/8" thick. My favorite fixed blades tend to be 4" or less and are 1/8" thick or less. Any thicker and they are just a sharpened pry bar to me. I do like my big chopper blades to be around 1/4", but I don't carry the big blades hiking. Just too heavy. Here is a link to Mora Knives sold by Ragweed Forge. The owner, Ragnar, is an excellent person to deal with and this is a super site with a lot of info on scandanavian knives. http://www.ragweedfo...ifeCatalog.html And a review of the Mora Robust on youtube. Why would you want to carry openly? Maybe 99 people would be okay with it, but the one person who freaks out and calls the police could put you in an awkward situation. Who knows what this person is going to tell the police? Who knows what the responding officer has had to deal with immediately before hand? Who needs the hassle of explaining open carry under these situations? And why would you want to lose the element of tactical surprise if you ever need to draw your weapon? If there is a bad guy around, I want the full advantage of surprise. OC is a bit like playing poker with all your cards face up. Yeah, you may still win, but why not tip the odds in your favor? I prefer deep concealment. In a small rural area, it might be different, but I live in Nashville.1 point
