I have a Carry Permit and have had one since shortly after they became legal in Tennessee. If I and others lose that right it will likely be because of attitudes like some of you have expressed in this thread. As has been previously mentioned and ignored, the Constitution protects you from government bodies misstreating you. The Constitution doesn't give you any rights on my property or property of any private individual. I can ask anyone I chose to leave my property. I can ask for just cause, unjust cause or no cause at all. I have that right because it is my property. If you refuse to leave I can have you arrested for trespassing. I can ask you to leave because you are carrying a weapon, because you aren't carrying a weapon, because I don't like your religion, your skin color, your politics or because I'm having a bad day. The facts are that we who carry weapons are in the minority. The anti-gun folks are also in the minority. The majority are those folks who take a neutral position. If we behave ourselves, carry responsibly, and don't go around with a chip on our shoulder about gun rights, hopefully we will be able to keep these rights. If we act like bullies with guns, we won't. If someone sees you are carrying and says something about it simply tell them you have a legally issued permit to carry a gun. That will totally defuse the situation 99% of the time. The other 1% keep your head about you and act responsibly. If a business owner asks you to leave because he doesn't want people carrying on his property, then leave quietly without making a scene. Remember there are always people watching and some of them would love the opportunity to brand all gun owners as hot headed troublemakers. Don't give them fuel for the fire they are trying to start. Let them come across as the troublemakers. Those of you who think you have a right to carry a weapon on the property of others without their permission need to wake up. What if that person were to show up at your house without being invited and walk in your livingroom and pick up the controller to your TV and change the channel and sit down and watch whatever he wants to? Would you have a right to order him to leave? Of course you do. But what about his rights? He wanted to watch that show. That's fine, let him go home and watch it at his house. The only way we will ever have a civil society is for us to respect the rights of others. Carrying a gun doesn't trump the rights of the other person unless he is trying to harm you.6 points

AB28, please read Dave Nowlin's post carefully. He is correct. Then, please consider these two points. 1. Your position to carry anywhere you please reflects harmfully on all of us with HCP permits. We should all attempt to be a role model for responsible HCP carry. I would urge you to do so as well. It only takes one negative event for the anti-gun lobby to whip their base into a frenzy. Do not be the person that gives them that leverage by posting statements that could be used to further their anti-gun agenda. 2. You are 32. I am 64, so trust me on this. Everything you put on the internet becomes part of a permanent record. If you are ever a defendant in a criminal case, the prosecution will find everything you have posted on Facebook,Twitter, and forums like this in an attempt to discredit you. They will find your posts here. When you make statements that can clearly be interpreted as ignoring the law when you disagree with it (and any objective measure, you have done that), then a jury could be swayed to believe that you believe you are above the law in other areas as well. Reread your own comments and imagine them being taken out of context and read to a jury. Everyone here is trying to give you some good advice. ...my advice? Take it. If I were you, I'd have a change of heart. I'd post my new insight here. Then in a week or so, I'd ask the moderator to delete this thread.2 points

We Must Stop This Immediately! Have you noticed that stairs are getting steeper . Groceries are heavier . And, everything is farther away. Yesterday I walked to the corner and I was dumbfounded to discover how long our street has become! This extension work was apparently done at night !! Very sneaky stuff.. And, you know, people are less considerate now, especially the youngsters. They speak in whispers all the time! If you ask them to speak up they just keep repeating themselves, endlessly mouthing the same silent message until they're red in the face! What do they think I am, a l ip reader? I also think they are much younger than I was at the same age. On the other hand, people my own age are so much older than I am. I ran into an old friend the other day, and he has aged so much that he didn't even recognize me. I got to thinking about the poor guy while I was combing my hair this morning, and in doing so, I glanced at my own reflection ........Well, REALLY NOW- even mirrors are not made the way they used to be! Another thing, everyone drives so fast these days! You're risking life and limb if you happen to pull onto the freeway in front of them.. All I can say is, their brakes must wear out awfully fast, the way I see them screech and swerve in my rear view mirror. Clothing manufacturers are less civilized these days. Why else would they suddenly start labeling a size 32 pair of pants a 42, or medium shirt as 'extra large? Do they think no one notices that these things no longer fit around the waist, hips, thighs, and neck? The people who make bathroom scales are pulling the same prank, but in reverse. Do they think I actually "believe" the number I see on that dial? Heck ! I would never let myself weigh that much! Just who do these people think they're fooling? I'd like to call up someone in authority to report what's going on -- but the telephone company is in on the conspiracy too: they've printed the phone books in such small type that no one could ever find a number in there! All I can do is pass along this warning: We are under attack! Unless something drastic happens, pretty soon everyone will have to suffer these awful indignities. PLEASE PASS THIS ON TO EVERYONE YOU KNOW AS SOON AS POSSIBLE SO WE CAN GET THIS CONSPIRACY STOPPED! PS: I am posting this to you in a larger font size, because something has caused my computer's regular fonts to be smaller than they once were. (They must be sneaking to my house and messing around with my computer. Probably CIA....!!!) Pretty scary stuff huh?1 point

I've always open carried a pistol, but whipped out a knife for the actual dispatching of the baddie. That last look of surprise is just priceless. Successful defense has always been, "well judge, I was using the least force possible -- I could have shot him ya know!" - OS (y'all believe me, right?)1 point

http://tnreport.com/blog/2012/06/01/house-republicans-running-rally-round-the-incumbents-campaign/ I thought the "job" of a State legislator in Tennessee was to: Maggart's use of secret meetings, and secret ballots, to kill the Employee Safe Commute bill seems to act in cross purposes to her oath, and, to what we as Citizens need our legislators, (and the Leadership of said body) to do on our behalf.1 point

I have one of the High Standard revolvers that was my dad's, but he has it right now. I liked it quite a bit.1 point

I've been living in Clarksville for almost 10 years and have noticed that most of the violent crime is specific to a certain lifestyle and area. That is to say that the victims of these crime are usually engaged in some sort of criminal activity/lifestyle or their attacker was someone they knew (domestics). The random stuff is not common. The recent killing of that Soldier by those punks was the first I've heard in a long time of a random killing. The areas I'd be likely to use my weapon in self defense are places I never go and have no reason to go.1 point

Yeah, I believe that is going over the line from the police side, but I was responding more to the attitude of "this is my right not to show ID" crowd. It's great that we have rights, but that doesn't mean just because we can we always should. If the police are called on me I'm not going to hesitate to show ID. That has nothing to do with whether or not I have the right not to. It has to do with the fact that I want to help and clear up any misunderstanding as soon as possible so we can all move on about our day. I have nothing against the police and, so long as I haven't committed a crime, they have nothing against me. So why not just be polite and cooperative? Just because you don't exercise a right doesn't mean it's not there.1 point

Learning to read a topo and do slope corrections will help greatly in your pace accuracy. I compass and pace regularly while cruising timber. We pace in 'chains' which is 66ft, 80 chains =1 mile(5280ft), I have 12 paces in a chain. slope correction is crucial to accuracy. It would be hard to keep a large area of USGS Topo maps because of their size. I would keep a regional road map and local topos of areas you might head in bug out situations.1 point

Really (IMO), the bottom line is that the gun is worth as much as you think it is, according to your own uses for it. I've bought guns for less than 50 bucks that I wouldn't part with for ten times that much. Conversely, I've bought guns for several hundred that I ended up selling for much less because they didn't meet a perceived personal value. I've got one now that was "appraised" at $75.00, but it shoots well and it fits me and I love it and to me, personally, it is worth much more than some arbitrarily assigned collector's value. Some of those little .32's were exceedingly well balanced and great shooters, not to mention a ton of fun to own and shoot. If that turns out to be the case with the one mentioned in the OP, then the repairs may very well be worth it at any cost. If not, then maybe it'll make a good trot line weight or conversation piece. Any any rate, the fact remains that value is both relative and subjective.1 point

Yeah, and I've also noticed that the older I get, the worse my wife's hearing gets. Went to the doc yesterday and he gave me great news - told me to get a hot mama and be cheerful, but my wife claims he said, "You've got a heart murmur, be careful!" ...Sure wish she'd get her hearing checked!1 point

Blued revolvers are beautiful. Smith & Wesson use to put on a deep rich blue that was really nice. But carrying them on duty would mess up the finish. Refinishing a blued revolver is not cheap. Stainless is a work horse. Unless you do some serious damage; it can always be made to look new again without spending anything on it.1 point

Bottom line, you never know how you're going to react in a given situation until that situation actually transpires. Training helps, but only to an extent. It's nice to think, and it sounds really macho to say, "The first thing the perp will hear is the slide racking back as I jack a round into the chamber - and the last thing they'll hear is my gun going off!" but indeed, the reality may very well be that the first thing they'll hear is you sh!tting yourself or tripping over a piece of furniture that panic/nerves suddenly caused you to forget was there, even though you've been stepping around it successfully for years. Shout a warning? Hell no! My knees'll be knocking and my heart hammering so loudly that the bad guy(s) will probably hear me long before my vocal chords loosen up enough to whisper, let alone shout! You know, we can come on these public forums or sit in a coffee shop or around a campfire and posture and postulate about what bad@sses we are until the cows come home. And we all like to think we'll have no problem protecting our homes and families - and that's a good thing - it helps bolster our fragile egos and adds to our peace of mind. But again, the bottom line is that until one actually finds themselves in a given situation, they really have no idea how they're going to react or what course of action they will take. And to claim otherwise is, quite simply, unmitigated macho bullcrap, because you're gonna' do same thing that I'll do and the only difference is that I'm honest enough to admit that I'll probably step in mine! And if it somehow makes me less of a man to admit that, then fine - I'm not much of a man - but you know what? At the end of the day, I can still look in a mirror... And the reflection looking back is an honest one.1 point

Unless that money was actually transfered into Zimmerman's bank account or physically placed in his hand I see no way for there to have been any fraud on Zimmerman's part. Someone could tell me that they raised X amount of money to help pay my legal fee's but until that money is under my direct control I would be increadibly stupid to claim any ownership of it. I bet that Judge gets all excited & rushes down to the IRS to file an admend tax return as soon as he recieves one of those "Pardon me sir, I am a Prince from Nigeria and need your help with transfering my ten million dollar inheritance into your bank account" emails.1 point

If you will recall recent history our Big O was the first to line up along side Hugo during the presidential election mess in Honduras a couple of years ago. An early telling moment in the new US foreign policy debacle. Birds of a feather.... And how's that second term looking now folks?1 point

ab28...look at it this way....If your yard was "posted" NO TRESSPASSING, do I have a RIGHT to walk through your yard? If your land was "posted" NO HUNTING, Do I have the RIGHT to carry my deer rifle into YOUR woods and hunt?Does your pond "posted" NO FISHING give me no right to stand at your pond and fish. I can cite several posts of yours where you state you CARRY past gunbuster signs. I can't understand what you are so AFRAID of, that you seem to think you can bring your gun anywhere, any time you choose violating the rights of others. No one should EVER have to be asked to leave a piece of property because we got busted carrying. You choose to walk past a sign, YOU LOSE!! If I was that scared that I couldn't go anywhere without my .45, because I was in dire fear of my life, I believe I would do a little soul searching and try to figure who I ****** over somewhere along the way. If your that scared, MAN UP or STAY HOME!!! Dave1 point

Sorry, perhaps sheeple is more appropriate? Point is, if you open carry, you make a point every time you do it, and most open carriers are somewhat activist about it. Might as well take it to the legal limit each time. Or just conceal carry and not have to deal with the public or cops at all, which is my preferred MO. I don't want a positive open carry experience, don't want to convert anyone, don't even want to talk about 2A or TCA. I want no interaction with the public at all that happens because I'm packing heat. If I did, I'd open carry. - OS1 point

Pretty uneventful. Someone called the Police (who knows what they said), they came, checked it out and left. The only time you hear an Officer speak he is calm and respectful. Of course if you title it “16 Open Carriers vs Several Police Officers!†(Which is not what happened) you will up your YouTube hit count. When you do something out of the ordinary people will call the Police. And when people call the Police; the Police will show up. If the call goes out as guns involved, usually any cops in the area that are free are going to show up. I would have shown my ID and told the Officer I’m sorry he had to be bothered with this; apparently someone got scared. He probably would have responded with “No problem, we got a call and had to check it out; thanks for your cooperation.â€1 point

I still carry mine as a backup to a Glock 9mm. It is reliable, accurate and so easy to carry. If you have fleshy, big or weak hands stay away from this thing. This is a 7 shot fire breathing dragon that one must learn to shoot fast one-handed. You can shoot it two-handed in a Weaver, modified Weaver or Isoleses stance but what is the point? This thing is for up close, personal and fast. This is a no slide lock gun so anything that goes wrong with this in an emergency is going to pose a training and handling issue. Most folks would be better off with a S&W Airweight .38, unless you like non-printing pocket carry 9mm in "relaxed" fit shorts or pants. Although I have reliable snubbies I prefer to carry the DB9.1 point
