  1. They want to put drones in the air but they can't keep squatters out of public parks. I've had my fill of this dictator, his wife telling kids what to eat and the libs controlling every thing. Four more years of this idiot and we won't be able to recognize this country any longer.

  3. You're right, two weeks isn't a reasonable time frame to have the rifle repaired. But it is well beyond a reasonable time frame to expect the rifle to, at the very least, be in The shipping process. On Target couldn't obtain a return table in 2 1/2 weeks, but he was able to get one within 1 day? That's uncalled for. Then the manufacturer informs him that On Target never even requested a return lable for his rifle. Again, uncalled for. I suspect if you were in his shoes, you'd be much less likely to be so nonchalant about the matter.

  4. It doesn't sound like it would have been fixed for free, no matter who sent it in. The fact that On Target hadn't sent it back, I'd be willing to bet they already knew this. Not that I needed another reason to never step foot in On Target, but another one it is. Some places are simply not worth doing business with, even if they are the only place in town that has one. On Target is one of those places on my list.

  10. That kid looks a little sheepish for being a hardened criminal. And gunshots rang out is a lot over the top. An ass chewing and washing the bus would be an appropriate punishment.

  12. Not as bad as the story they had on WSMV last night. The reporter stated that "gunshots rang out" at a school bus. When they went on to tell that it was airsoft guns, I said WTF! Then she went on to say that the bus "was not damaged." It would seem that these reporters are just as ignorant of airsoft guns as they are real firearms.

  16. " said Andrew Goddard, executive director of the Virginia Center for Public Safety. “It’s going to take something serious to happen for people to wake up. Unfortunately, it will be too late for somebody when that happens.†" I just don't get this line of reasoning. If someone is gonna start shooting any legalese is not going to stop it. Some people just live in unreasonable fear of things that are not going to happen

  17. If you are referring to GW Bush... So as to better inform you of the facts - 1. The crew of the aircraft carrier requested permission of the Captain and put up that banner, not GW Bush or any of his people. 2. The aircraft carrier crew's mission up to that point WAS accomplished, having removed Saddam Hussein. 3. GW Bush landed on the carrier in a fighter jet, not a helicopter, not Air Force One, hence the 'flight' jacket. Bush was also a former military fighter pilot. After having served, one never 'retires' from the military, and can wear uniforms and such at future events. Bush was also the highest ranking military leader, Commander-In-Chief, so as close to a uniform as could be for fellowshipping with his comrades regarding a military event in relation to a military victory in relation to a military deployment that GW Bush had directly ordered. Hope that clears it up a bit for ya.

  18. Yes, yes, and yes. I also prefer 7/8 ounce full-grain veg tan for most holsters, but will use 9/10 oz for bigger guns and 4/5 for small pocket size guns. I typically order mine in sides and get them per-dyed, but I go through a lot of leather in a year. Double shoulders (or single shoulders) tend to be the most uniform in thickness and are generally the most clear of marks an blemishes. Tandy's stuff is hit or miss, so I agree to go look in person if possible. Look at the flesh side as well because it can tell you more about the hide than the smooth grain side. You want it to have an overall firm temper and even look to it. You'll never find one that is absolutely perfect, but some are much better than others for the same price. If veg tan leather feels really soft and spongy, most likely it's a poor quality hide and it won't mold properly. Look at a few different ones and you'll start to get a sense of what I am talking about. They do have a remnant bin, but typically it is the scrap that is not very useful for making nice larger items like holsters. They used to sell leather by the square foot and would cut down larger pieces if you only wanted a small piece. You can also save money by looking at lower grade pieces if you can work around any holes, blemishes, or spongy areas.

  19. Besides carrying a good high capacity handgun with spare mags, maybe it might be a good idea to buy a big redneck SUV or 4x4 truck with big mudder tires. I know they drink some gas but they are superior to a little compacts when things have to be moved out of the way or simply run over.

  20. It just dawned on me when I saw the title of this thread pop up again. "Modest" and "1911" don't go together very well. There's not much modest about a 1911. Perhaps the thread title should be something more like "My awesome entry into the 1911 club". Awesome is still at the low end for a 1911. Other possibilities may include intimidating, astonishing, awe-inspiring, breathtaking, exalted, fearsome, formidable, overwhelming, mind-blowing, stunning, magnificent, wondrous, impressive, majestic, beautiful, wonderful, incredible, and amazing.

  22. You need a team. This will be a life-changing for the better, long term project. Your team should include a doctor, nutritionist, and a personal trainer. I have a doctor in mind, but let me ask my friends for suggestions first. Some of my friends have done P90X. I think it's too much too fast right now. Plus, you need to learn EXACTLY how to do the workouts or you risk significant injury, especially at your weight. You would also benefit from working out with a group with similar goals. Last Tuesday, I saw a training group of about 50 people at Franklin High Track on their first "Couch Potato to 5k" training walk. You need to get involved with a group like this to give you the motivation and the accountability to do some workouts that you might not enjoy on your own. Most of the group walked the half mile. Only a few ran it. There were some large people. By the end of summer, all will finish a 5k run/walk... about 3.1 miles. Walking is a good workout for you right now. Most people have no clue about healthy eating. You'll have to find what works for you. You should cut out all sugars and avoid artificial sweeteners, except stevia. Avoid all fried foods. Reduce breads or eliminate them as much as possible. Figure out what you're eating a lot of and stop eating it... period. It will probably be something like potato chips. Once you break the addiction or about 30 days later, you can add a moderate amount back to your diet, if you really miss it. I'm a lifelong runner and work out at the YMCA about 2x per week. I cycle in warm weather. My wife is a wellness director. I have a circle of friends who are health fanatics, so I can probably help you find some of the resources you need. Good luck.

  26. My "neighborhood" to me is part of my home. To many sit back and do nothing. To many will not get involved and make their neighborhood a safe place. I am not saying who was right or wrong here as that matter is not mine to decide. And frankly I do not care. I just know what I would do if I was involved.

  27. WalMart is not "pro open carry". The last corporate statement I saw is that they allow concealed carry according to the law of the state in which a store resides, but that they also reserve the right to have customers cover a visible handgun or leave the store if it creates a problem with other customers. Costco had the same policy until Lenny Baby made an open carry scene in one in Nashville; now they are all posted statewide against carry period. - OS
