  1. So I know I'm not the only one ferreting away ammo for SHTF. When we store this particular ammo we know it may not see the light of day for many moons. For that we all agree military steel ammo cans are best. Air tight and built like a tank. BUT, how do we store them inside? Well, for ammo I KNOW I am going to shoot in the near future I just dump it in there. THe exception being my precision loads and those go in plastic ammo boxes to prevent damage. Wouldn't we all love to keep all our ammo in plastic containers but they don't fit well in ammo cans. Not efficient use of space. Well, I was pondering this as I cast some 158g RN for .38 today. I thought of our beloved Comm-Block surplus ammo. Much of it is stored in small quantities, wrapped in brown paper. BRILLIANT! WTSHTF we don't want to have loose ammo in cans. If you have to barter, do you really wanna grab a handful or ziplock bag? No. So I came up with this idea today for .38 special. It isn't anything special [Ha! pun intended] but it works perfect! You'll need a paper lunch sack, some scrap cardboard, masking tape, scissors and 56 rounds of .38 SPL. Cut two squares of cardboard that fit tight in the bag. Using one of the squares as a guide, cut off the top of the bag a piece the same size as the squares to use a divider. Place one of the squares in the bottom of the bag and then lay two rows of 14 rounds, tightly laced. Like so: Using the part of the bag you cut off, lay it on top of the rounds and lay two more layers of ammo. Then top it off with the other piece of cardboard. Taking care like wrapping a Christmas present, fold the bag over itself tightly and tape it shut. Write your info on the tape in ink and viola! A perfect dispensary pack of .38 ammo. I dunno how this is going to work out with 9x19, .45acp ECT but I'll let you know when I try. They almost have the look of old surplus ammo, huh? They sure fit snug in the can. Just what I was wanting. WooHoo! ....yes I DO have a lot of time to ponder silly things.

  3. And until we get rid of this attitude, and get back to proper a$$ busting, we will continue to have problems.

  4. I would go with one of the Ruger Mk series II/III. They have a steel bolt that will last quite a while, and as someone else on here said, they are indestructible.

  5. You'd be hard pressed to find a better pistol and a older Ruger MkII or a new MKIII. They are virtually bomb proof and will last forever. They are very accurate as well and there are all kinds of upgradable parts available for them. They come in blue or stainless, with regular barrels or bull barrels, fixed or adjustable sights and lengths from 4" to something like 8". The grip is nice for small hands and it's comfortable. Great pistol to learn on, imo. I've taught my son and one of my daughters to shoot with them.

  6. He's just easing off while election campaigning is going on. If he wins, I bet this'll be right back on the table with his characteristic lack of concern for anything anyone else has to say about it.

  8. As a business owner whose business is in the Rivergate Mall area, its hard for me not to support this. I don't consider this "Rule/Regulation" like that have a GunBuster sign ... Gun Ownership ... Gunbuster signs .... HCP Friendly places, etc... all have nothing to do with business in general. This rule/regulation does. If a large group of Teenagers (looking like gangbangers or otherwise) camped out in front of my business during business hours, you best believe the cops would be called. I'm sorry, as a business owner, I don't have the patience for kids hanging out, doing absolutely nothing but being unruly and loitering. Granted, you will have teenagers like your son that go there to shop ... Unfortunately, 98% of teenagers in the mall do nothing but loiter - no matter what time of day. If I was the mall owner, or small business owner in this mall, I would back it 100%. When business owners see no other options, they move out. When there are no businesses within a mall, the mall shuts down. A bad mall with a bad rep = disaster ... Not only for all the small business owners within the mall, but also for the area.

  9. Obama could probably just flat out kill someone on tv during a press conference and nothing would be done to him on account of it. There are rules for us simple folk, and rules for his kind.

  10. I view with interest the comments of five (5) different Republican Legislators to me yesterday, that prudence would dictate that I pay no attention to the law, and simply carry my weapon wherever I go, regardless of what the law says. That I feel, is the real problem with the people elected to do our business, they have become immune to having to live by the edicts that they turn out to rule our lives, accepting the dollars of corporate sponsors of laws that the legislators themselves do not intend to obey. They have become immune to having to follow any rules due to their "special dispensations" they simply hold that no law is meaningful to them, and if you are one of the chosen, or as one put it to me, "smart enough to survive" pay no attention to that man behind the curtain, it is how they live.

  11. Without a permit, it's 1307 for a non HCP holder, Class A misdemeanor (place open to the public where 1 or more folks are present). The posting is immaterial in this charge. One without HCP would also be guilty of violating 1359, an additional Class B misdemeanor. - OS

  12. It's not. Law says owner is "authorized to prohibit the possession of weapons by any person", so person without an HCP is guilty of this also, as I read statute. HCP holders are mentioned specifically to be clear they are included in the "any person" category. So a non-license holder could just be convicted of 1359 in addition to 1307. - OS

  13. What's unconstitutional about signage per the TN Constitution? Are you saying that no business/corporation/private property owner has a right to restrict firearms in/on their property by displaying their policy in the form of a sign? I hope not. When it comes to "2d Amendment rights vs Private Property I'm all for reasonable accommodation and have argued the same, both here and with a few select TN legislators...however, accommodation doesn't mean forcing businesses/property owners to allow carry (open or concealed) on their property. I would like to see are some changes made... 1. It should not be a greater crime for a TN HCP holder to carry past a sign than for someone who doesn't have a HCP to do so 2. Type/size/verbage of the signage should be uniform and the rules about where it must be posted/how visible, etc. more specific and less up to interpretation. 3. Same rules apply to ever entity, including government buildings, city parks, etc - no different "signage" laws for one entity compared to another, etc.
