  1. As part of the group that was old enough to fight but too young to vote, I haven't missed an election since I was legal to register. I consider it a duty to vote, as well as a right.

  5. First, let me say a serious thank you to David and the staff. You guys do a great job here and have been very fast with responses and keeping the general peace around here. Now the issues. Or issue as it is. I have only found one so far. When changing my profile information, it will not allow me to update, saying that "Gender can not be left blank." I am not leaving gender blank. There is also a radio button for gender, and I have tried to save the profile information with the radio button checked, and unchecked. Chrome and Vista in case you need to know. Keep up the great work. And can we get a dark theme for this software?

  6. I went to the Classic Arms gun shop in Memphis yesterday to see about getting a sling attachment point put on my AR. I tried doing it myself but I couldn't get the castle nut off. The gunsmith at Classic Arms said he could do it in 10 minutes. So he took my AR and broke two tools trying to get the castle nut off, scraping the buffer tube in the process. Spikes Tactical had staked that thing in 3 different places and the only way to get the castle nut loose was to cut it. I took the AR lower in again today and dropped it off before work. I go back at lunchtime and not only is the attachment point installed, but I had a new buffer tube and the gunsmith had patched up the lower receiver where I had scratched it myself when trying to remove the castle nut. I had put the lower wrapped in a T-shirt in a vice and got some scratches through the shirt. In the end, however, I got a new buffer tube, a new castle nut, some cosmetic repair work, and my SAP installed for only $10. I just want to say that the service at Classic Arms is great and how it should be everywhere, not just gun stores. I couldn't be happier with them.

  9. I took the Tennessee Carry Permit course today and used the Springfield XDM 9mm 3.8 I just recently acquired. I have to say that it performed flawlessly. It was dead-on at the 3, 15, and 25 yard lines. I was extremely happy with the accuracy and groups. This is definitely the best handgun I have owned thus far and will remain in my possession permanently. I am going to be buying some extra extended mags from Springfield this weekend. I alternated between the extended and short mags during the course and my shots still remained on target. That definitely builds my confidence in using the shorter mag once I get my carry permit. I was a little hesitant because my pinky kinda hangs off the bottom of the grip, but it didn't seem to affect my shot. I know this isn't a "detailed" range report. It's more of a "I shot my new gun" report. Just wanted to let everyone know in case one of you is thinking about getting one of these. They're great guns. I have to admit that I am partial to Springfield's though.

  10. the S&W is a fine gun, the only thing cheap about it is that stupid plastic washer that holds the recoil rod in place. It is otherwise fairly solid. It is as accurate as the others. I put the buckmark, 22A, and ruger marks at a tie, and all 3 are all anyone needs unless doing serious competition. After these, plan to spend $1500+ for the next one (S&W 41, hammerli, etc). I still use a mark II. My wife went a little oddball: she had a custom made cz kadet ($1k after all the work) that does quite well. She likes it but it has a lot of trigger takeup that most target shooters would cringe at. Once the slack is taken up it has a nice pull --- guess its glockish in that regard. The buckmark can be a bit of a hassle to tap for a red dot. The back end of the gun has 2 screws that disassemble the pistol. If you mount forward of these, you have a front heavy result. If you mount to reuse them, you have to recalibrate the sight after you removed it to clean the gun. Can be an annoying issue. Speaking of how I know this, I have a 7 inch barrel (round version) buckmark with a rail already on it.... but you said 6 inches max....

  11. Smith & Wesson Model 41 if you have the budget for it. I have shot one, but haven’t owned one. I own a S&W 6†Model 617; it’s a revolver, not a semi-auto, but is full size and is as accurate as most anything out there at a reasonable price.

  19. Taking care of that lack of experience is what training is for and training should be encouraged. Unfortunately, a lot of "adults" who were raised around firearms need but don't get training. The way I see it, if you are old enough to die for your country you ought to be old enough to protect yourself from the thugs and two-legged piles of crap that walk around preying on people.
