  1. So, for all you folks who say you are absolutely NOT going to vote for the GOP nominee if it's (Romney/Gingrich/Santorum) ... Again, please remember that O is likely gonna get 1-2 more picks in his second term, and conceivably even 4. Add those to his two already installed socialists, Sotomayor and Kagen, and he's going to have more influence over ultimate US jurisprudence that any president in history. What inspires this as a separate post, is the fact that the Supremes are going to re-hear a case of long "settled" law, affirmative action in higher education. This shows that the already tenuous decisions in Heller and McDonald may well only be short-lived. All it takes is another case that works its way up. All it takes is for the Supreme Court to agree to hear it. Do you really think we'd get another 5/4 decision with even ONE more of O's appointments on there? There is really no such thing as "settled law" in the highest court of the land -- it can be changed in a heartbeat to the new "settled law". It'll be bad liberal enough if the Senate goes barely GOP. If it stays Dem, those appointments will be so far left you'll need binos to even see them. Nowhere will the difference likely be more decisive than with firearms law. So I say again, vote your conscience in the primary, but bite the bullet and vote GOP in the general. If you must puke to do it, let it rip (hopefully on a Dem ). - OS

  6. Thank you for the kind words. According to Faramir "The praise of the praiseworthy is above all rewards. Yet there was nought in this to praise. I had no lure or desire to do other than I have done." I am just glad that any of those who desire to see this bill given an even shake was offered the opportunity to speak in its support. I am sure there are others who could have done it more justice, but it was my turn, and I did the best I could. The real test will be in the House Employee and Consumer Affairs sub-committee, I will be better prepared for that one.

  7. I was making a bit of money by making and selling custom holsters, belts, sheaths, etc. I've actually cut way back on it, as it began to build into something that took up more time than I wanted. The key to it, I think, is that it was something I was interested in. Perhaps you should return to Jersey since you have such a low opinion of us redneck hicks here in Tennessee.

  10. I have quite a few Cold Steel knives and some CRKT also.. My comment re CS and CRKT wasn't meant to diss them -- both companies have made any number of fine and innovative knives. Just a clarification about "manufacturers". I've even gotten into SRM/Enland-Bee/Navy blades -- Chinese companies who ARE the manufacturers, and the actual manufacturers of some of the PRC made line for American-based knife companies, like Buck, Spyderco, Kershaw, etc. A good knife is a good knife. - OS

  12. I'm 56 now, been registered to vote since 18 and have never missed an election. I haven't read this entire thread, but see it's evolved into an discussion about RP. I can't in good conscience vote for someone who thinks it's OK for Iran to have a nuke. Isolationism is not a viable foreign policy in this day and age, the genie is way too far out of the bottle for that. I do like his economic views, but that isn't enough in these times. FWIW, I voted for Perot and helped get Clinton elected, won't make that mistake again.

  15. Find toys that you can all enjoy playing with. My wife is frustrated about the gender identification with my daughter. Her favorite toys are LEGOs and Hot Wheels. She has most of the Star Wars sets (her favorite films as well) and over three hundred Hot Wheels. I have tried to explain to my frustrated wife that our daughter is not having any issues understanding gender roles, she is playing with toys that not only does she enjoy, but toys she knows that Daddy will play with as well. The two of us have spent many hours recreating scenes from Star Wars, as well as incorporating out own elements (such as the Storm Troopers crashing the Krusty Krab and arresting all of the Bikini Bottom regulars) and having a jolly ol' time. My wife is disappointed as she still has her collection of Barbies from her childhood and out daughter (who loves dresses) won't play with Barbie, or the Dream House or anything else related to 'girl toys.' The question I ask my wife is simple "How many times do you get down into the floor to play with her?" That is not to say that my wife isn't a good parent. She includes our daughter in her activities, such as sewing, cooking and other domestic duties, as do I. Out daughter loves to bake. However, if you ask her what she wants to do when she grows up? She wants to be a mechanic and work on cars with Daddy. Or a "Jedi, a bad one, with the red sword." I am not claiming to be an expert on children by any stretch of the imagination, however I do understand how my daughter ticks. We are cut from the same cloth. I have found a way to connect with her, on her level and communicate in a fashion that she can understand and grasp. Today's children are very techno savvy. They inherently grasp electronics in a fashion that many adults can't. Adults are amazed at what a smart phone can do, yet a child accepts and expects the phone to do anything, after all, today they can. Video games can be one way to breach the wall. The LEGO video games are not extremely violent, and they have basic problem solving skills. Mixing those with simple physical activities can get the child's wheels turning in their head while still exercising their bodies. For example after playing the Star Wars LEGO video game, I went out and picked up a pair of Nerf Swords for myself and my daughter. After we finish a level, we will go outside and pretend to be Jedi having a lightsaber duel. Again, Star Wars is just my example as it works with my daughter. But using something that she likes I have been able to include it into films (giving us time to cuddle on the couch,) video games (which she enjoys and despite all the negative press does improve hand eye coordination,) building blocks (which teach problem solving skills and rudimentary engineering,) and out door activities (for exercise and burning off energy.) My daughter is an only child and is five years old, so I am not sure how well that would translate to three children. However if there is something they can all agree too or somehow be coerced into accepting and enjoying, go for it. If you can get all the children into something that will help them bond with not only you as a parent, but each other, it will be beneficial for life. Good luck. I have been blessed in the fact that my daughter has mostly been stress free, and well behaved, even if she is conniving and precocious to a dangerous degree with her mother. I have no idea where she learned that.

  16. Exactly. These laws CAUSE crime -- they make criminals out of otherwise law abiding citizens. - OS

  17. I say that since our reps and senators don't seem to be interested to passing laws that would actually align our laws with both our state and federal constitution, we start suing over unconstitutional laws. Even if we ignore the fact that the 2d amendment is supposed to apply to the states as well as the federal gov, our state constitution only says that they have the power to put in laws that are with a "view to prevent crime." The posting law (-1359) can not and does not prevent crime. Neither does restricting carry in schools, parks, etc. And the permit system obviously does not stop criminals from carrying and using firearms. We need to get into court and get a win that won't make us rely on politicians for maybe throwing up a small, crappy bone. We need to get them to be forced to follow both constitutions.

  18. John Anderson and Ross Perot are on line two. Paul will join their small club of changing nothing. However, a 5/6/7 liberal activist Supreme Court majority will change things for the the next 25-50 years. If indeed the US continues to exist that long. - OS

  20. Sure it is. Its the part where all powers not given to the govt are reserved for the people. Then we allowed the "general welfare" section to be used to reduce the need for you to think when choosing a barber or a mechanic. FTR, I am a highly irked Libertarian, so YMMV when it comes to interpreting the Constitution

  21. There was a chemistry professor in a large college that had some exchange students in the class. One day while the class was in the lab, the professor noticed one young man, an exchange student, who kept rubbing his back and stretching as if his back hurt. The professor asked the young man what was the matter. The student told him he had a bullet lodged in his back. He had been shot while fighting communists in his native country who were trying to overthrow his country's government and install a new communist regime. In the midst of his story, he looked at the professor and asked a strange question He asked: "Do you know how to catch wild pigs?" The professor thought it was a joke and asked for the punch line. The young man said that it was no joke. "You catch wild pigs by finding a suitable place in the woods and putting corn on the ground. The pigs find it and begin to come every day to eat the free corn. When they are used to coming every day, you put a fence down one side of the place where they are used to coming. When they get used to the fence, they begin to eat the corn again and you put up another side of the fence. They get used to that and start to eat again. You continue until you have all four sides of the fence up with a gate in the last side. The pigs, which are used to the free corn, start to come through the gate to eat that free corn again. You then slam the gate on them and catch the whole herd. Suddenly the wild pigs have lost their freedom. They run around and around inside the fence, but they are caught. Soon they go back to eating the free corn. They are so used to it that they have forgotten how to forage in the woods for themselves, so they accept their captivity." The young man then told the professor that is exactly what he sees happening in America . The government keeps pushing us toward Communism/Socialism and keeps spreading the free corn out in the form of programs such as supplemental income, tax credit for unearned income, tax exemptions, tobacco subsidies, dairy subsidies, payments not to plant crops (CRP), welfare, medicine, drugs, etc. while we continually lose our freedoms, just a little at a time. One should always remember two truths: 1) There is no such thing as a free lunch, someone is paying for it. 2) When you begin to think that having your government provide for you and make your decisions is ok, realize that you’ve also given up the freedom that goes with making your own choices. This is the reason that BHO must go at whatever cost or pride you must suck up.

  23. True, but we also have to vote them out by holding them personally responsible for what their legislative leadership does also (regardless of whether local legislator is directly involved in bad legislation) because the General Assembly chooses their leaders. AND let your legislators know why you are canning them.

  34. Call me delusional too. You think God is going to rush down and save you because you asked him to? Ppffttt. He gave you two hands and a brain so you can do things yourself and so he doesn't have to wipe your runny nose every time you get the sniffles. You can give thanks for the mental and physical abilities we are blessed with and then put them to use instead of convincing yourself that hiding under a blanket will make the monsters go away. King David probably carried his sword to Temple with him, and he said it best: Blessed be the Lord my strength which teacheth my hands to war and my fingers to fight. I know people like you. Good people at heart, but if you want to talk about delusions, look in the mirror. You're the type like some of my family who say "Only people who are looking for a fight, carry guns everywhere they go." You might be an alright fella, I'm sure you are but I said it before your priorities are out of whack. All the peace, love and live and let live hippies can unite and it still will not change the fact that the strong eat the weak.
