  1. I think the issue is more about usurping the constitution than birth control. When a president wields power that is not given to the office by the constitution (and the other two branches do nothing to stop it) then it is up to the people to bring the three branches of Gov't back in line which is what happened in the congressional races of 2008. The Presidential office does not have the power under the constituion to demand what we have seen over the past several days. If the position does have that kind of power then any presidential administration could demand that we all buy LED TV's and battery cars for energy conservation. Voting is the best way to ensure we have checks and balances.

  2. I don't think we're going to hear anything from the government/agency/responsible parties because that is their MO thesedays. "We did it, we don't care if it was right thing to do or not, we felt it was at the time so deal with it." Because they know that we are the little people and 9 times out of 10 we can't do a thing about it. Seriously, I don't know what my reaction would have been if the Sheriffs Dept. showed up at my house and demanded that I go to the emergency room.

  3. I will carry what I want (well, there's a few things I want I'd like to carry but don't have...maybe someday) thank you, as I assume you will. "I just have never had a "coherent" explanation of the purpose or practical use of a trigger safety." I gave you a quite coherent and congenial explanation of the purpose of a trigger safety. As for your hypothetical 2:00 AM scenario (which moved the goal posts from your original statement) you have perfectly described a negligent discharge which has always been and shall ever be USER ERROR. For that matter once you invoke the "unintentional" you are logically bound to it's application in all directions. For instance, what if you had "unintentionally" left the safety off to begin with? For that matter, what if you "unintentionally" forget to take the safety off in the stress of the moment and get yourself killed? (See how hypotheticals work?) How many ND's have 1911's accounted for over the years (including the subject of this thread) which have a manual AND passive (grip) safety? In fact, while we're on a roll, how about all those rifle/shotgun ND's? ALL of those involved weapons with manual safties. Look, if YOU are uncomfortable without a manual safety it's no big deal...your weapon choice is yours. Your problem is that you came here with this; "I don't know what model gun he was carrying, but I would bet that it was a trigger safety "safety-less" gun." and were wrong. I'm not going to give you a hard time about it but you were wrong. Then you doubled down by casting derisions on a whole swath of weapon platforms and by association (intentional or not) those who would carry them. Sorry dude, but taking heat for that isn't something you get to play "victim" over.

  5. I just read a piece on MSN where Obama says religious type employers, churches, hospitals etc will not have to include birth control as part of their health plans, but those employees can still receive it for free through his Obamacare plan. . WTF! Free? Someone will be paying for it! Does this freaking prima donna just make things up as he goes? Wasn't Obamacare legislated? Were there not details in that legislation? Assuming so, how does he just up and change something that Congress voted on and passed? I don't give two craps about birth control really. Does this all mean that when the wind shifts he can just up and decide something else can be changed? Someone explain to me how this works. I gotta be missing something. And if I am not missing something I am really pissed.

  6. Well I've reached one of those points in my life that we all unfortunately have to go through, I lost my best highschool friend last night. He drowned in while saving a boy from a car that rolled into the river in Bridgeport, Al. He saved the little boys life, while giving up his own. That's why I'm posting this up here because I think he deserves recognition in making the ultimate sacrifice, for being a hero to the boys family. We were inseparable for 99% of our jr high/high school years. And just like almost everybody else, after high school we kinda grew apart. The last time I saw him was on my birthday December 24th. He leaves behind two sons of his own, ages 2 and 4. R.I.P Christopher Mathew Heaton. You will be missed

  7. You're approaching it too "matter of fact". Cartridge designation rarely [accurately] coincide with bore/groove dimensions. 7,62 mm refers to a bore yes, but 7.62x.03937=.2999 Nothing is THAT caliber. I'm not sure why caliber designations have been so squirrelly over the years but we just accept it. Just look at 7,62x39 is supposed to be around .312 That's actually 7,92mm but 7,92 puts us in mind of 7,92x57 (8mm Mauser to most americans) Early bores were .318 while later revisions of the cartridge were .323! This is maddening! Back to 7,62mm Look at the Czech 7,62x45 that's .309 or the Russian 7,62x38R [Nagant revolver] which is .295 Further the 7,62x25 Tokarev runs about .310 and the 7,62x54R is .312 NOW! What will REALLY make smoke come out your ears is when you realize MANY of these weapons vary so drastically from barrel to barrel [among the same weapon!], you wonder how they ever shoot at all. For instance, if you want to shoot the most accurate handloads you'll ever shoot in your Mosin Nagant, you'd be hard pressed to beat a good cast bullet. BUT I've seen bores run as big as .316+ For proper fit, that would put your cast bullet as high as .318+ Luckily 7,62x51 and it's commercial brother .308 Win as well as 7,62x63 [30/06] are very well controlled for the most part. BUT here we go again, my Ishapore 2A in 7,62x51 shoots best with zero leading when I size to .3105. You really have to understand, there's a happy medium in there from a safety stand point, but for ultimate accuracy, you MUST slug the bore and use size appropriate bullets. This applies to jacketed bullets as well as cast.

  11. the point of my post really has nothing to do with birth control. The point was we have a president who seems to do what he wants when he wants with total disregard to the constitution on the order of the laws we all are supposed to follow. I did not and still don't understand how he can all the sudden say that churches don't need to adhere to a law(?) that is to be enacted, that he signed off on. I am sorry I may not have the words to get my thought across. Are there other laws or bills that have been passed and signed off on by him that he can just up and change on a whim? For this birth control thing shouldn't congress have to pass an ammendment on his Obamacare thing? Personally I do not think I should have to pay for health care, birth control, for anyone else. As a human being I have no problem with helping those truly in need of help. I am not in favor of the never ending laundry list of things I must pay for for other people. Especially when those people have no intention of getting off of my tit, ever. Someon mentioned Obama and the UN treaty that would ban private ownership of guns. Well he can't do that, Treaties must be approved by the Senate IIRC. But what is to stop him from deciding he can enact treaties on his own, and if he does who will stand up to stop it? WTF is going on with our government?

  12. Obama, along with every other member of Congress was elected. Until they must answer to the people for their actions there is no stopping them. Elections just don't cut it and are becoming a farce. They get away with the vast majority of what they do with ridiculous "rules", not laws, put in place by both parties. The people select representatives on the basis of trust. That trust is broken day after day. Now, that being said I have no solution to propose.

  14. I'm partial to a Dillon 550. You can load all pistol and most rifle cartridges on it, and they are easy to change over. It's pretty simple to operate (can be used as a single stage if you want) and all the stations are in plain sight. Oh yeah, and Dillon will fix it if you break anything - no charge.

  15. If If they don't have the judgment or self control to be responsable without government intervention, do you really think birth control will fix anything? Bailouts don't work for corporations, banks, or irresposable, oversexed, baby makers.

  18. Shooting it was irresponsible as a parent and a gun owner. However, it served a point. Posting it on a pubic place was the most irresponsible part. Going to the extreme to prove a point to a rebellious child is one thing. Hell, even shooting the laptop is well within his rights. But now, the daughter could use that against him to portray him as a violent gun owner. And trust me, there are plenty of folks getting all excited at this thought. He even posted the evidence for the world to see. As one poster above mentioned, comparing this to burning his baseball cards. This isn't even in the same category. If he had taken his daughter out in the backyard and made her shoot the laptop in a private, family setting, maybe. But trying to publicly humiliate her? Nope.

I don't believe he is a danger to anyone or himself. But this is what happens when you don't watch what you do or say. The .gov knows whats best for us.

  23. The effectiveness of voter fraud is not the entire point here. Any voter fraud should be taken very seriously and prosecuted to the full extent. I don't care if someone casts one illegitimate ballot; they should be doing hard time for as long as the law allows. Having a cavalier attitude towards voter fraud only invites more and nullifies our entire system of Government.

  25. I will not vote for Obama. He is a horrible president, and just wait until ObamaCare kicks in full time. Our national debt will skyrocket even faster than it is now. In 1992, I voted for Perot. I was fed up with Bush and despised Clinton. Perot's ideas were right on target, and would have had our nation out of debt by now. In 1996, every citizen was so mad at government, the throw the bums out motto ruled. We saw a conservative Congress for the first time in 80 years. What did that get us??? In part, a vigorous economy, a more balanced budget, and hope. I just want to see 4 years of conservative government, if for no other reason, to see if they can do what they claim. We know after the past 80 years the liberal/socialist agenda is a miserable failure. I will not sit by and hide my head in the sand because my favorite candidate (Newt) isn't going to win. It is un-American and unpatriotic to NOT vote. Take a stand and stand by your convictions, right or wrong. If you don't want to vote, then move to China where you can't!!!

  26. Whats "a tactical assault rifle modified to use bullets for an AK-47"? "But the scariest transaction came after dark in a pharmacy parking lot. The online ad was for a 50-caliber sniper rifle, the most powerful gun legally sold in the U.S.: bullet range 5 miles. It can pierce armored vehicles, even bring down a helicopter. But the seller was so laid-back, you’d think he was hocking a used bicycle." You could have done it during the daytime in the Police Department parking lot and you might not have been so scared.
