until its a criminal offense to remove the stamp.

...and this stops criminals from doing it because why?

Aside from that, I wonder what the plan of action would be for when a gun owner replaces a firing pin? Have to go somewhere to have your serial etched into it? Or have to buy a firing pin (which is etched from the factory) from the manufacturer at an inflated price because this is supposed to help prevent gun crimes?

are you saying you are a criminal?

My point is that it will not stop criminals it just stops law abiding people like all gun control measures to date.

Wasn't saying that at all. Just pointing out the obvious flaw of a security measure like this: There are many cheap and easy ways to get around it (i.e. Dremel, file, etc). It seems we're making the same point, just from different angles.

I don't remember saying "If they do this, I'm going to Dremel down my firing pin".

Like most gun laws this is just a completely stupid idea. Unless the sentence for tampering with the serial number on the firing pin is more severe than the sentence for murder this will not stop any criminal from filing it off and committing his intended crime.

Those are some cool pics though

Agreed.

And of course the costs of implementing this measure will be passed straight to the consumer. Ugh...

All valid points that the State of California Department of Justice does not agree with.

I think that if it goes bang and doesn't belong to someone with a badge or a star on the blvd, they don't agree with it....

anything that will make the cost of owning a firearm inhibitive for the average citizen is something they're all for.
