Are you Christian? Then you can get a discount on a gun at an east Tennessee store.

The owner of Frontier Firearms in Kingston says the last week’s deadly mass shooting in Oregon prompted the sale.

Last week, after the shootings, Tennessee Lieutenant Governor Ron Ramsey encouraged Christians who are serious about their faith to think about getting a handgun carry permit.

So Brant Williams says he's offering 5% off any new handgun if you say you're a Christian.

"If Christians are going to be targeted, we need to protect ourselves, and the best way to protect yourself is with the best weapon available, and that happens to be a hand gun," said Williams.

While Christians get the discount, Williams says he's never refused to sell anyone a gun and welcomes customers of all religions.

He might want to add Sell a gun to anyone that passes a background check rather than just sell to anyone but that is a generous offer but do Christians carry ID cards showing they are Christians. I still think it is a great offer after what LT Governor Ramsey said............jmho

So, how does this fella go about proving someone is a Christian? Does he throw holy water on you and see if you melt?

Are you suggesting a Jewish person might lie about their faith in order to get that 5% discount?

He can't prove otherwise.  Honor system.

Good for him.  If I was in the area, I'd go support him.

"Does he throw holy water on you and see if you melt?" Now that's funny right there but I don't think he is looking for vampires, just Christians but with that in mind he might want to have a pet pig in the store while sale is going on or offer free pack of bacon with every purchase..................jmho

BLT test?

Isaiah 66:17

17 “Those who consecrate and purify themselves
in order to enter the gardens,
then follow the one who was already there,
eating pig meat, reptiles and mice,
will all be destroyed together,” says Adonai.

Just so you know.

We don't celebrate pagan holidays either.

Still don't think I'd get the 5%.

I would agree with that, but a number of my fundamentalist christian "friends" disagree...... I added them for fun.

They won't be in business long now. Guarantee the phones are ringing off the hook because of this guys marketing ploy.

And while I agree he can choose who to sell to and who not to sell to he is also limiting himself to only having customers that are Christian. And before you say he did not say that in actual practice I bet a lot of non Christians are going to walk right on by a place that is discriminating against them while favoring another group. But I bet that shop owner would raise holy hell if he walked into a place that would refuse to give discounts to Christians but he is doing the exact same thing.

In the end it is his choice and his business but this is not going to end well for him.

I am really surprised he is still in business after this made its rounds.

I've purchased 2 handguns from Frontier Firearms in the past couple years. They will price match anyone in the state;  and in both cases I found cheaper prices which they verified and honored. They also have a "try before you buy program" which is very cool.

Great group of people - most of the staff are veterans - and very knowledgeable. I live about 45 minutes from them but its worth the drive for me.

Don't know about the "christians 5% deal". I'm Catholic and it doesn't make me want to go there to get the discount just because...they already price match so why institute such a controversial promotion? Seems ill conceived and has nothing to do with the kids who were shot in Oregon. I agree it may come back to hurt them.

I tend to agree Dolo. If they were local to me and my experiences mirrored polecats above, I would continue shopping there no problem, I really don't care one way or the other, but I know quite a few people who would see this as a sign to find a new LGS.

It wouldn't have garnered the publicity that he did, but I think a better idea would have been to just put a policy in place wherein if it got mentioned at time of sale, they get a discount.

My last job didn't have a veteran discount and while they weren't opposed to the idea, change happened way to slow for my taste. I just started asking people at the register, no one got mad, my veteran customers got a card good for 10% off and anyone who answered no got the pitch to buy into our discount program which would save them the same 10% after buy in.

It worked so well it ended up becoming first the unwritten policy for all retail locations, and eventually written policy.

And no one got mad.

There are a great many businesses that offer 10% Senior Citizen discount and  Veterans 10% discount but don't advertise it and unless you ask if they offer one you won't get it. I don't think Seniors or Vets should have to ask. I think the cashier could ask and that way they would all know or Just post it for all to see..............jmho

I don't think this would cause more harm than good in their business. I would assume the majority of their patrons are Christians already, based on the profile of the average gun store customer in TN. Of the small percentage that aren't Christian, I doubt a significant number of them will be so offended that they choose not to shop there.

Recalling back to the Chick Fil A fiasco, despite a media assault on the founder of Chick Fil A, they did more business that month than many of their competitors combined. I was more annoyed that I couldn't get one of my beloved chicken sandwiches from there because I didn't want to wait an hour for it.

This marketing ploy will likely energize folks who otherwise may not be inclined to go gun shopping, but will be motivated to support a business that isn't afraid to say things which may be presented by the media as offensive.

This guy is lucky I've never had a winning lottery ticket and too much time to waste.  I'd be in there with a dishdasha, a shemagh, and my cell phone camera recording to see how far he is willing to trust someone's word.

Kudos to this business.  We need more businesses that are not afraid to be politically correct.  Is it not wonderful that a business can say this and advertise this?  If this business was in other countries say the middle east, the business would have been burnt down along with its owner likely being beheaded.  Maybe in time, that will happen here in the good ole USA, but not today.

I go out of my way to patronize certain businesses like Chick-Fi-Lay, Hobby Lobby and Tyson Foods.

I attempt to stay away from zealots of any stripe, crazy people and drug addicts.  These classes of folks tend to be unpredictable which means they are dangerous.
