CAI Centurion 39 Milled AK / Wood

Recommended Posts

I'd be very wary of buying a Century-built gun without shooting it first.  From what I can determine they contract out assembly to a few different firms... some are good and build decent guns, some are apparently drunken monkeys and build garbage.

I've looked at them before. The ones that I've handled seemed like a solid AK. I'll give you a list of pros/cons IMO strictly:

Pros:
Price-Where else would you find a milled AK for $550?
Made in America-some average joe like me put this thing together.
Looks-looks great IMO, and there are a few different wood or plastic stock options

Cons:
The looks of the rifle are great, but look on the receiver for a giant ass billboard-turns me off
Made in America-foreign parts are a good thing on an AK. Commie CHF barrels are important to me, may not be to you
Misleading marketing-these are not 100% USA made like CAI claims
Neutered gas block, no provision for cleaning rod

They look decent except for the butt-stock. It just looks wrong. Like it has too much angle. Maybe it's just me though. I would have to look at them closer to find out if the barrel is any good. That seems to be the issue with American made AK's. At that price they have been known to take .308 rifle barrels and turn them down for the AK profile. Just like they tried to do back with the Tantal debacle where they were using .223 pattern barrels instead of 5.45 barrels.

All that said, I've read a few very positive reviews so maybe Century figured it out.

This is very tempting...... At least you can get to use it. All my 74 does is sit in a safe and cry due to ammo issues.

Dude, new 5.45x39 is about same price as new 7.62x39.
