Wife's birthday is Saturday... Restaurant suggestions?

Looking for something more upscale, though not necessarily The Palm level. Preferably something that isn't a chain restaurant, although some more... uncommon ones would be fine I suppose. She just wants something different I guess. She isn't big on Asian food.

Whatcha got?

Don't know what else is in that area, but there is a Melting Pot here.  It's nice.  Good for a special occasion.

Just make sure that you or your wife isn't allergic to anything on the menu.  My wife and I got to spend most of the night in the ER after she had an allergic reaction to something (probably shellfish) that was dipped in the melting pots.

Went there another time, careful to avoid shellfish, and it was a very pleasant experience.

Check out The Southern downtown.

Germantown Cafe has great views of the city.

Etch is an upscale dining adventure.

Maybe hit Holland House for drinks in East Nashville.

Lockeland Table for locavore farm-to-table goodness.

There's a new French place on West End called Chateau West. It's getting some favorable mentions on the TripAdvisor Nashville forum. It's next to the Exxon at Murphy road in the A-frame building that used to be an Asian restaurant.

My Sister and Brother in Law used to go to The Standard, before they had my nephews (one is 2, other is like 4 weeks old).

BiL has also told me to check out Watermark Restaurant.

I don't have any personal experience at either, most of my fine dining has been in other cities (San Fran, Las Vegas, Miami, San Diego, etc).

Urban Grub in 12 South, one of the best meals we have ever had.  We went with a friend who is a head-chef from out of state, we almost never hear positive reviews from him about restaurants...even he loved it.

Two of our favorites that I haven't seen mentioned are The Mad Platter in Germantown and Tin Angel on West End (across from Maggiano's).
