Zero Tollerance is OUT OF CONTROL!

This is so bizarre that I don't even know what to say.

"A suspended seventh-grade student in Virginia Beach, Va., could be expelled for the rest of the school year for shooting an airsoft gun with a friend in his yard as they waited for the bus to come..."

LINK: http://www.theblaze.com/stories/2013/09/23/suspended-student-may-be-expelled-for-rest-of-the-year-for-playing-with-toy-gunin-his-own-yard/

We used to take toy guns to school...hell, we used to take REAL guns to school and no one ever got shot...we played cowboys and indians and secret agent man and 007 and still managed to learn that 2 + 2 = 4 EVERY TIME.

Folks, if you have children or grandchildren in the public schools, do whatever you have to do and get them the hell out of there.  If there is any hope for the future of this country it rests with the children alive right now but with the kind of nonsense and outright ANTI-AMERICAN garbage they are being inundated with there is simply no chance that this country can recover from its demise.

Conservative parents have become to complacent to get involved with local politics much less state and national politics. Only when they wake up and realize that our country is not what it used to be any longer will they want to act, but by then it will be too late. I think it may already be too late, but I still reserve hope for our country.

More and more I get the feeling this sort of thing is worse for the antis than it is for us. I've heard from more than a few anti-firearm friends and family that "zero tolerance" is getting out of hand. It tends to open the door for some pro 2A talk.

I think zero tolerance is to antis what open carry zealots are to gun owners. Edited by Razz

Bet they don't get suspended for juggling chainsaws.... What dip sheets ....in charge of the school... Who reported him?? We're missing something on this.

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk 2 of course it ate my spelling.

That's just stupid.

It's a sacrifice, but we managed to get our kids into a private school last year. Got tired of the governments influence on the public schools. It was nice at the fall fair last year... The school auctioned off some donated items, and one of them was a rifle :)

This school is over reaching. They have no right to punish this boy for what he was doing in his own yard. Zero Tolerance has been out of control from the start, 16 years ago my 7 year old nephew was threatened with a year suspension for forgetting his cub-scout pocket knife in his backpack and taking it to school. Yet my cousin gets a concussion from having her head slammed in to a locker and her attacker gets a two day suspension. Edited by BrasilNuts

Ha! That's what I thought. Pretty good form. Even for a lefty..

According to NBC News a neighbor called "911" to report it. And the neighbor knew it was an airsoft gun.

This is Nanny State and none of the School's business.

I said before that I don't have any kids but if I did I would do everything I could to send them to a private school. I would like to see alot more affordable private schools, I would love to see some day, public schools lose half of their students and funding to private schools. If that were to ever happen i'm sure the progressive liberal marxists in government would try to ban private schools, well except for their chosen few children.

I have been saying it for years, Zero Tolerance is an excuse for a lack of common sense.  When those in a position to make a decision are incapable of making decisions they toss out the Zero Tolerance regardless of any facts.

Zero tolerance always has been out of control. It’s for people that don’t want to do their job.  They don’t want to have to defend their position that this person gets arrested/suspended and this person doesn’t. It’s what happens when you take away discretion. People that use it as an excuse are weak and should not be in those positions of authority or making those kinds of decisions.

Lawyers, and the fear of lawsuits, are the main reason behind Zero Tolerance policies.   Put in a law where if someone starts up a lawsuit and loses that they have to pay all defense expenses you'll see things change....

How can they be suspended for “possession, handling and use of a firearm”, when they weren't possessing, handling, or using firearms?

Sounds like a neighbor with an agenda.

Fox news also has this story.

http://www.foxnews.com/us/2013/09/24/7th-grader-suspended-for-playing-with-airsoft-gun-in-own-yard/?intcmp=latestnews

The school's so-called "zero-tolerance" policy on guns extends to private property, according to the report.

This story reminds me of how wrong-headed people in education have become. A little power makes some weak willed people power hungry. It reminds me of an old joke that they're turning into a truth.

"If you give some people an inch they'll take a foot and think they're a ruler."

What a crock of crap.

His weak hand needs to be a touch higher to make more surface contact with the weapon, giving him more control. But, all in all, excellent form considering.

I was unaware that a school had jurisdiction on someones private property.....
