Safety and the New Gun Owner

Folks,

With all of the new gun owners out there, it might be a good time to think about Safety.

When you take that new-gun-owner-first-time-ever-shooting-any-firearm-buddy of your's to the range, Please keep a close eye on them.

They don't know what they don't know - - - sweeping others with their muzzle, finger on the trigger, etc., etc......, I even saw one walk out in the impact area while the range was hot.

In each case their "experienced" gun owner friend was doing their own thing and not taking the time to teach, mentor, and observe what the new shooter was doing.

Stay Aware and Be Careful Out There.

I have been thinking about this as well. I am sure there will be big jump in accidental discharges and shootings as well.

Correct.

We sure don't need any NDs with injuries by new owners of AR type rifles.  That would give a thrill going up the leg of the "Never Let A Good Crisis Go To Waste" political thugs and their propaganda media machine.

I would recommend that every gun store offer free instruction (and I mean Certified INSTRUCTION) with every sale.

Otherwise we'll see more of this.....

At least his finger is off of the trigger.

We always like to stress to new gun owners 2 major gun safety rules.

Finger out of the trigger unless you are ready to fire, and muzzle disipline.

We also try to teach new gun owners about their purchase. I don't know how many times we have field stripped guns and helped customers do it properly so they can maintain their new firearm.

David,

Trust you didn't think that I was speaking badly about D&T Arms.

Your folks are some of the most helpful that I have ever seen for the first time gun buyer - - - and I know that I have posted threads to that effect on this forum.

My comment was a recommendation that during this time of panic buying we have the opportunity to provide training so that the founder's use of the phase "Well Regulated" meaning "Well Drilled or Well Trained" can be achieved.

As for me, I provide all of my instruction Free.

I won't take a dime.

+1 on starting them off a 22.  I love seeing my friends try out a mosin nagant their first day at on the range BUT only after we work our way up as Bob describes.

I don't think it's funny at all when a newbie is taken out and handed a 44 magnum as their first shot for the 'reaction'.  Yeah...you've just given them a flinch!

Didn't think that at all.

Was just stating some of the things that we stress to new gun owners.

You are very correct that we have an opportunity and I think an obligation to teach new gun owners safety.

There are a lot of guns being bought by people that have never handled a firearm.
