Biden: Executive orders, action can be taken on guns

By David Sherfinski

The Washington Times

Vice President Joseph R. Biden vowed action on gun control from President Obama on Wednesday and floated the idea that Mr. Obama could use executive action to do so.

"The president is going to act," Mr. Biden said, speaking briefly before a meeting with gun safety and gun victims' groups Wednesday. "There are executive orders, executive action that can be taken. We haven't decided what that is yet. But we're compiling it all with the help [of] the attorney general and all the rest of the cabinet members as well as legislative action we believe is required."

Mr. Biden has been tapped by Mr. Obama tapped to head a task force on gun violence, which is scheduled to deliver recommendations to the president by the end of the month.

"We are vitally interested in what you have to say," Mr. Biden told the group. "And as the president said, if our actions result in only saving one life, they're worth taking. But I'm convinced we can affect the well-being of millions of Americans and take thousands of people out of harm's way if we act responsibly."

"I want to make it clear that we are not going to get caught up in the notion, 'unless we can do everything, we're going to do nothing,'" Mr. Biden continued. "It's critically important we act."

Per to a White House official, representatives from the groups listed below were at the meeting, according to a pool report. Attorney General Eric Holder also attended.

None of my representatives are there. So I will not comply with anything they come up with and they can pound sand.

All these different groups - but look up the executive officers.  You're seeing the same people.  Sounds impressive to have 6 or 8 different organizations, but in reality, there are but one or two different groups of people here.

Also noticed that none of these people are pro-gun.  Not one group.  Not one 'survivor'.  This is a railroading, plain and simple.

I was listening to POTUS radio on XM and heard Aaron Blake of the Washington Post discussing this very topic. Now as left leaning as they are and the radio host, both seemed pretty convinced that Obama couldn't get true gun control through EO, but would probably be a "background check" type of order.

And neither expect anything to actually pass Congress. Once the fervor settles and the further out we get, the less vocal people will be to see something passed.

Remember Congress can pass a bill essentially canceling the EO, wich the Pres would then veto, and return to congress for majority override. So hope is not lost with an EO, but would be an uphill battle for sure.

It will be interesting to see what comes in to fruition in the near future

I'm wondering if "they", the gun(owner) haters are panicking right now because of the greatly increased sales of guns and ammo. You think "the"(gun owner hater in chief) could attempt an EO halting the sales of AR's and AK,s and .223 and 7.62x39?

I think this is a two-day event, with Walmart, the NRA, and NSSF also attending, although maybe they're on tomorrow's agenda.  Not sure if it's everyone in the room at the same time both days, or if it's anti-gun one day and pro the next.

Edit: according to the full article they will meet on Thursday.

Holder must be grinning ear-to-ear right now. Investigation reports zero culpability in F&F, Obama re-elected, and now this.

A devout Democrat once told me he was the worst Attorney General in history.  And yet, he still finds a way to win.  That contract with Satan must've been a doozy.

This "administration" should have more respect for their predecessors.

From George Washington's address to the second session of Congress:

"Firearms stand next in importance to the Constitution itself. They are the American people's liberty, teeth and keystone under independence. The church, the plow, the prairie wagon and citizens' firearms are indelibly related. From the hour the pilgrims landed to the present day, events, occurrences and tendencies prove that, to ensure peace, security and happiness, the rifle and pistol are equally indispensable. Every corner of this land knows firearms, and more than 99 and 99/100 percent of them by their silence indicate that they are in safe and sane hands. The very atmosphere of firearms anywhere and everywhere restrains evil influence. They deserve a place of honor with all that's good. When firearms go, all goes. We need them every hour."

Pro gun day is just for show. Will mean nothing. Obama already knows what he is going to do and NOTHING will stop him. i will be surprised if they even take it up in congress. Just sign the orders and make us all felons if we don't obey. :censored:

Not if it is found to be unconstitutional. The executive order is also not supposed to be used for this kind of thing. Just

managerial stuff like re-arranging desks and business like things, never to have the force of law. That's reserved to the

congressional part of the branches.

This actually means that doctors can't record any firearms related info for the government to collect. It says the ACA will not be used to collect any type of data nor can premiums be raised because of gun ownership. It doesn't say the feds can't start registration separately.

Joe Biden is the typical Washington Idiot.

He has never read the Declaration of Independence,

Never read the Constitution,

Never read the bill of Rights.

He is just like the rest of the drones, he'll make it up as he goes along.

Elections have consequences.

These idiot temporary politicians need to go.

The damage they do to our great country last long after they are dust in the ground.

Look at Kennedy, BTW he was the first shovel ready job Obama had.

Biden had been sent to the Senate for  36 years by his constituency before the last 4 as veep,  so that's really stretching "temporary" methinks.

Nobody said the people of Delaware had any brains.

3 counties in the whole state, 1/2 work at Dupont sniffing chemicals.

What do we expect.

Biden shouldn't be underestimated. He's a holdover from an older generation of Congress, of whom there aren't many left.

He's not afraid to negotiate with the gloves off, and he knows more about procedure than most new congressmen combined. He uses the buffoon image to his advantage. Most people are so caught up with "idiot Joe Biden" that they don't notice him getting the upper hand.

Dislike him all you want, but don't discount him because of it.
