Magazines - full or empty?

Okay, besides the one or two loaded for daily carry/home/car/protection, is it wise to keep magazines full?

Are there time limits on the springs retaining memory, or is memory retention a non-issue?

Glock magazines fully loaded make a "rattle" noise, is this common? (my neighbors do the same thing)

I have always kept mine fully loaded so that I have plenty ready to go for the Zombie Apocolypse. I have never had a problem. However, I shoot often enough and run through all of my magazines when I do, that I dont really have them constantly compressed for more than a couple of weeks. I have had some cheap magazines give me problems in the past while shooting but I just took them apart and stretched the spring a little and problems vanished.

In my experience on different forums, it seems people are about 50/50 on this topic.

i find it best to keep them loaded especially if it is a newer firearm, this helps break in the mags, so loading is easier, as for how long you can do this, i don't think it matters, if the spring gets to week to feed rounds properly, just pull of the plate at the bottom of the mag and give a little stretch to the spring. back in action.

From everything I've read the only thing that wears down a spring is actively compressing/decompressing. Being loaded has the same effect as being unloaded. Now there are those that "feel" it might hurt and argue against keeping them loaded, but the guys who know, Wolf etc., say no. It is true, however, that there may be body/feed lip issues with AR mags but that's why I have an AK!

What good is an empty magazine:)? An empty magazine will get you killed...dead.

You never know when or how many you will need.....Keep em loaded. If you are worried about it, buy new springs every few years or so. They don't cost that much.

My mags stay fully loaded at all times. That includes my rifle mags too.

I usually carry with an extra clip as well. Never had any issues at all. HTH
